Expeditions to New Lands.
… This is a valley of untamed wilderness, owned by one living in a far off land. The ideal situation would be for the valley to become at least a township, and then owner will know it is looked after. Since the exodus of civilization a hundred years ago, some have come to this valley but were killed or passed on. Taming wilderness has many perils, will these groups accomplish the quest?

Chapter 1 … The Beginnings.

Chaudhry Group.
… Back in their homeland this family had some hurtful things happen and were not happy with the overpopulated cities. After finding a notice in the paper, they prepared for a change which included a long trip to this Valley. The group was told the small towns about this New Valley, would provide them with what they needed.
Instructions were to settle in an area by building a shelter and planting food.
… With children, these people could not hike far, but as luck would have it they got a cart-ride to near their destination. This cart was full of hay so fairly comfortable for the two-week trip. This family group will have a harder hoe than most, but time is on their side. They arrived a few years earlier than other groups. The man with the cart dropped them off overlooking the valley they were headed for. They had to walk down some steep slopes and into forested areas. It didn’t take them long to find a small embankment to hurdle over onto flat land with sparse woods. There were paths about and it was easy to pick an area between these paths. But were they animal paths?
… Then they came to a clearing that had a shack on it. ‘These paths must be human made,’ said Joey. They found a clearing with sparse young evergreens, and decided to stay, just as they saw a bus coming. The school bus saw them and made its way through the trees to stop and give the kids a ride to nearest educational facility. Mother Rikki in pink, knew school was in next town and called ‘Oh thank you, Please.’ The kids moaned, ‘Oh mom, we just got here and we are tired.’ ‘Now children!’ uttered Rikki, ‘I have arranged everything, so go with the bus driver and see were your school is. Say hi to your teacher for me! You will meet new friends there!’ Mother knew it would be OK for the older kids were very responsible. So reluctantly, the 4 children went off to school, while this week’s agenda for the adults’ was to get work.
… In this Chaudhry group we have 3 adults of, Mother Rikki of 4 kids, friend Shawn and Uncle Joey. First the kids have to survive school with getting good grades. When they grow up, they will get jobs to claim their land in this valley. The adults have to get jobs now, to survive them all. It will not be easy but they plan to make friends with Farmer Joe first thing. This is a good move, for Farmer Joe owns the only official store called Joe’s Market Place. Why? Because although he is on in years, he has been the keeper of area since before it was sold to new owners. Farmer put the sign up himself calling his residence Joe’s Market Place which is on a dead end path called Market Lane.

… For a few days at Rikki’s lot, a stranger with long dark hair would come and just watch our group. It was nerving but they figured it was one of the officials of area and tried to ignore him. Rikki uttered ‘If he were here to help or talk to us he would come.’
… Later Rikki found a box on their clearing and opened it. There were a few useful items in this box but most was not needed. Rikki was able to meet this stranger in their woods, and sell him some stuff. She also found out his name is Ted and he lives in area. Later Rikki told Shawn and Uncle Joey, ‘Even close up this guy looks like a bum.’ But then she added, ‘He is kind of shy but harmless.’ They rarely saw him after that encounter. He just wanted to say hi?
(There are very few people here so one could be very lonely if without others.)

… A few years later in early spring, a new person by name of Claire Cappella came by. She came to warn the Chaudhry group of the mess on their clearing. Among the kids she met Lady Rikki and informed ‘If the Overlord sees this mess he may banish you from here.’ ‘Oh, don’t rock the boat!’ uttered Lady Rikki. ‘You came by in your pretty long dress to tell me this? I do not think so, for we have had no trouble in the many years we have been here.’ ‘Well,’ replied Claire, ‘Suit yourself. I have just been appointed to work as Overlord’s right hand and run this village for him.’ Rikki exclaimed ‘Oh, the valley is becoming civilized? … But we have 4 kids here and we are away in the day. We just got home and are about to eat right now. We have not been able to clean dishes for our old sink cracked and leaks much. The new sink the guys ordered from market last week, has just arrived, So this evening the dishes will be washed.’ ‘Good,’ uttered Claire. ‘That is all I ask. If you need help I have a nurse, doctor and guard to help me with this valley. They will be scouting area regularly. Please call them if you have a problem.’ ‘Sure thanks, but we will be OK,’ replied Rikki, unless you wish to baby-sit. Ha-Ha.
… As the months go by, kids are no longer kids. They are becoming young adults much to the group’s relief. They are average to poor students in school but all will make a living off this land. With the contest they have just read about in the new local paper, they are all anxious to get good jobs so to buy more land to win town.

Najjar Family (Formerly Chaudhry).
Najjar is the name of the children’s Dad.
… These young adults just heard more about this contest and the general rules are,
-Inhabit as many clearings among the forests and wild woods. The group who owns the most land will own the town.
They are eager to get jobs for will need more than 50$ allowance to buy a lot of their own. While others were playing volleyball Uncle Joey figured, If the town is becoming more civilized I should look for a better job to be on the leading edge.

… In this April near the front path, of which the sign says First Place Loop, young Mona is chasing pesky raccoon away. She has both class and guts. She then paused in their front yard among the flowering trees, to listen to the birds and frogs just getting into their chorus of music, for the evening concert.
… On another day about dinnertime, young Elijah in his off white top was being uncooperative and getting in everyone’s way. Rikki sent him out to run and clean total clearing. This took some time and was a punishment to get one out of their hair.
… Yet another day we see the Overlord, owner of this valley, snooping through the trees in front of Najjar’s clearing. He has no beefs, for this team is quite advanced and has a finished home. They have been working on this main building now for 2 years, and its almost completed to shelter them for this winter. Not like other winters where the former shack was small and very drafty.
… In the middle of one night, phone rang and Mona was one who answered. Grandmother Najjar will be sending her grand-kids 700 dollars through special delivery. ‘Thank you Grandma!’ said Mona as she hung up and told the others. Now there is enough money so all can have their own sleeper to sleep in.
… Going into later May, these people are about to proclaim more land for their name of Najjar. The weather is warm, a perfect time to move onto new land, and grow food right away. They are on the look out for other clearings that are clear, flat and dry.
… Again on another night all raced for phone. After Mona answered for 700 the other week, these people were eager to be winners, Ha-Ha. But alas it was Mona who got phone again, and after all of that it was a prank caller. They all threw their arms in the air, shook their heads and then went back to sleep.

(This dwelling of 7 people is about to become 3. After children get their own lots the parents will live high, in their large home.)

… In early June, young Isaiah was on the path by the trees of First Place Loop and was able to speak to mail lady of what was happening in town. She said, ‘It is not all that it seems, be-ware! If you do not pay a bill promptly Overlord will double your next bill. I must go, for I may be watched.’ Isaiah stood there as mail lady left. He thought, well we are so busy here, whatever is happening we probably will not be effected. We are safe with all the money we bring in now? We have not had a problem that I remember, in the few years we have been here.
… As Isaiah stood in the warm wind that was blowing summer by, he wondered exactly what mail lady meant. Just then a large bird went by screaming its territorial chant and snapped Isaiah out of his thought pattern. He has just gotten home from his new job and needs to go rest before digging up a new garden area out back.
… A few weeks later the kids are getting ready to leave for their own clearings. Then the parents will have ample time and space to study and pursue what they wish. Is Retirement around the corner?

The Cite Group.
(I feel Cite group got a bad start, but that is how I found them. Not all of these groups started the same.)
… In this very early spring these people came into this valley of green. Our Cite family is a Mother-Son team consisting of, Queen Mother in long dress, Prince in blue, and commoners along for the ride. Friend Davy in red top, was leading this troop as they sauntered through some thick woods. This path called Central Way opened up to some white trunked trees near a pond in this clearing. Queen Mother with her pale pink long dress and sun hat to match, was last to come around that pond of which she wished to stay near. Another called Cleo is talking of her mother, who is a Queen back in her homeland, while the other lady Cindy has talked of being a runaway from her people. Why?
… With very little money this group will have a tougher time than most. Mother’s subjects know her as queen but this group will keep quiet about being royalty. They got poor jobs, which makes their situation even worse. How are they going to compete in this contest? Queen’s plans are for Prince Stew to stay here with her, as others get more clearings to move onward. It is beginning April and as standing near garden, queen noticed a few fruit trees, which are starting to leaf. In the shade of these trees her group went on planting, with hopes that there will be many cherries and apples this fall. The two girls Cindy and Cleo were huddled together planting in one area while the two men Davy in red and Prince Stew were working separately on their areas.
… It was a nice warm day for planting, but later this was interrupted by a lady who came by in her long red skirt. Our people here could tell she was a nurse for she wore a large badge that gave her name and rank. Nurse Terrance came quietly up to Mother, who was on her knees planting. Nurse talked to her saying; ‘I am of governing body in area. Queen Claire is the runner of this village and she has with her a doctor, a guard for protection and myself. Claire sends us out to scout and bring her back info, so she can better run this area. If there is ever a problem, please let us know and we will see what we can do.’ ‘Jolly good’ was the reply and they kept on planting.
… A bit later after nurse had left, the phone rang. Friend Davy in yellow shorts answered and accepted 1000 dollars in bonus, for his donations to animal shelters. Now these people had no money, but God heard their plea I guess. Then about an hour later, Stew answered phone and won 1200 from contest a year ago. He is Prince here and now can provide more for his Queen. They are out of woods money wise, and are even with other teams now. Good going! (Like I say, God is watching these people.)
… While Stew was on phone, Cindy in her bell-bottom slacks found some food in grass near designated living area. After phone call she called them and they all gathered to have a mouthful of mushrooms. Cindy told others earlier she had run away from her family and the group has been a bit nervous. Why? But with this food find, she is getting into their good books. All these people have prior baggage but must work together. Stew chimed in with ‘We should make hay while the Sun shines. He turned to queen saying, ‘I could give the two girls enough to get a new lot for our group? Should I do that? Then Davy could stay here and help me build our castle?’
… Mother thought upon this, but feels Davy would fair better on a new lot with his muscles. She replied with thus and continued with, ‘Gosh, it takes a lot of stamina to build a hut and plant crops.’ Mother also said, ‘Besides Davy has a better paying job than the others. When ladies get more money coming in, they can go to a lot together.’ Son Stew replied ‘Yes Mother and I can build our home here, but it will go up slowly being only one builder.’ Mother agreed ‘OK, but I can help you too.’ ‘Yes’ agreed Stew, ‘and I can bring in more money for this lot.’ Mother instructed ‘You build a small shelter here and then go help Davy build on another lot.’ ‘OK mother, maybe next week?’ As all got home from work later this next day, things were looking up. Our 3 ladies got better jobs and bring in almost as much as the men. So in this second week they earnestly started their adventure.

… One evening we see Prince Stew and Queen Mother discussing something near the small lake on their land. ‘Mother, I will start that shelter tomorrow. Would you like the home near this pond?’ ‘Oh Jolly good! That is an excellent idea. You can make the patio on edge of water. Then when we plant around the pond, the ducks will come.’ ‘Yes, we will have water at arms-length for the home. We could also catch a duck for special occasions.’ ‘Sure but chill’ uttered Mother. ‘In summer it would be nice to hear the ducks, frogs and crickets singing in the cool evenings.’
… Later that night Cleo is telling Stew that she does not like the wild cats prowling their lot. ‘Please Stew, could you do something about that very soon.’ ‘Yes’ replied Stew, ‘I know Joe’s Market had some traps.’ Cleo screeched ‘Oh No, I just want them not to come!’ ‘Pish-posh,’ uttered Stew, ‘I will be very busy next few weeks. Besides, when you get your new lot, you can deal with that problem yourself. You need to ask market for help.’ Cleo commented as she looked down at a hole dug by a rodent, ‘Yes, I guess there will be a lot of critter problems. I hope moles are not in our garden patch. Nothing will grow if crops are eaten or dug up.’ Stew looked at her and smiled saying. ‘It’s a rough hoe here, not like back home! We will manage though. I will go pace out a few feet for Mother’s shelter and start tomorrow. ‘OK’ replied Cleo, ‘sorry for keeping you. Will I be going soon to another lot?’ With that Stew turned to see Queen and uttered, ‘Well ask mother, she is the boss while you are here.’

… In this second week as the days rolled by, Stew and friend Davy were able to build a small home for Mother. Stew stands near hut thinking; it’s not much to look at but Mother will be out of the cold in cooler nights. Cleo sitting in background has viewed hut and thought, Gee, being a queen should Mother not have a castle? I hope they build my home bigger than that! What was Stew thinking?’
… Later in day Stew and Davy went to mother. Stew asked, ‘Mother, should we go now to another clearing? I hesitate to leave and am concerned for your well being. You have crops growing but will you be OK till they mature?’ ‘You go’ uttered Mother, ‘I will visit Joe’s Market and get a bit of food for tomorrow. You go and plant your seeds as soon as you find a suitable area. Do you promise?’ ‘Tally-ho’ replied Prince Stew. Then Stew turned to look at Mother’s shelter as he asked ‘Do you like your shelter Davy and I built?’ ‘Tip top shape dear, and when you come back you build it bigger so you can sleep inside too!’ ‘Sure, it will only be a few days if the weather holds out.’ Mother agreed ‘Yes, I feel we will have good weather for many days now. My feet are quite warm these days. Just be aware of the wild creatures about.’ ‘Thanks replied Stew, ‘You keep that stake I found near you at all times. And stay near hut if you see foes about.’ ‘Jolly good dear, now you go please, and hurry back.’ But Mother, I need money to buy the land we build on!’ ‘Oh!’ uttered Mother, ‘I forgot .. come. You remember where to go?’ Stew agreed ‘Yes at the back of market on that spare lot. I haven’t forgot. Thanks … Bye.’ Cleo heard them say bye and turned to the guys saying, ‘You two take care and us girls will come by later.’ Before our two men left, Mother gave them 800 to buy two lots and start building for the ladies.
… As others left, Mother took time to water and enjoy the flowers. The next day she found this wild thistle growing by fencing near main path of Central way. She marveled at its beautiful purple flowers, the largest flowers on a thistle she has ever seen! She was quite taken by this plant and decided to give it a break and care for it. As time went by she found the bumblebees love thistles and come about the flowers often. She thought there was only one kind of huge bumblebee? Now she has seen the yellow and the white, along with many cousins of the smaller varieties. She has found that caring for this one plant has given her an adventure, she may not have experienced otherwise. Nature is wonderful and diverse.

Guys Return Home.
… One fine day after over a month, our troop arrived home to Mother’s lot. Their return surprised the others. The Queen saw the men coming and was first to greet them on the corner of lot at Central Way and Ashley Path. She hollered, ‘You made it… Thank God! We were growing concerned for our scouts.
… Cindy with her long dark hair was standing behind Mother. She whispered quietly to Mother, ‘But I told you they were coming back soon. Remember, I met them on my walk about a few days ago.’ Prince also was uttering quietly to Davy beside him. ‘Pish-posh, I know you are hungry, let’s greet the ladies then I’ll make food, if they have some for serving? Just be patient!’ The other lady Cleo was still coming at her own pace to greet the men.
… As our two men found, neither of the ladies had ventured out to the lots just built, for they were hesitant and fearful to go on own. But the ladies were very glad to see our returning voyagers, for the wild animals were becoming tamer and coming right up to the home. Because of this the ladies have set up a routine that one stays awake while others sleep. Stew informed ‘We met a guard on the new lots and he said it was advisable to stay on the lot you proclaim or another will take up residence there.’ Mother replied ‘Yes but we paid for that land did we not?’ ‘Yes Mother, but this does not seem to matter here. Maybe if we went with papers. Do you still have the papers?’ ‘Oh yes’ uttered Mother. Short dark-haired Cleo was standing right near Prince and Queen. She spoke up and announced ‘I wish to go to one of these new lots right now.’ Stew uttered ‘Great! Come, I will draw you a map and explain the way.’
… Cleo was eager to start her new life. She was of royalty herself and felt she would have her own kingdom someday. This may be why she has not been that nice to some recently. They talked with Cindy as well but she was less willing to leave. Then Cleo coaxed Cindy, ‘Come with me and we will get a dog and cat.’ Stew agreed, ‘Yes for the two lots are across from each other. You can work as a team and visit daily.’ Cindy with her long dark hair uttered ‘Jinxed! So long as I can come over when I am fearful of the wild animals.’ ‘Sure’ uttered Cleo. Then Cleo turned to look at the two men and asked, ‘Is the hut there big enough for two people?’ Stew and Davy looked at each other and wondered. They were not sure about that. Then Davy informed, ‘Well ma’am, the dogs will protect you. Get a kind that grows big or maybe they have big dogs already made.’ Cleo agreed ‘Yes we will have to see what is there. ‘OK men, we will be off. Just promise you will come by once in a while, in case we are starving.’ Stew uttered ‘Pish-posh! You wouldn’t starve right off, for we planted food a few days back. It should actually be growing now.’ ‘Yes, jolly good Son,’ chimed Mother. She looked back to Cleo and Cindy saying, ‘Gosh, We will visit you!’ Then mother hugged Cindy as she whispered ‘The men will be around to help build more onto your shelters. We will not leave you stranded! Tally-ho you two and remember, that land you are living on is yours, in my Kingdom.’
… The two ladies looked at our three and smiled then turned and wandered to Mother’s hut where they had money and food stored. They came out for another round of hugs and then our ladies left for greener pastures.

Chapter 2 … Three Wealthy Brothers.

Beginnings Of Government
… In the early days Overlord spoke with some of the people coming into his area and found a group, with members who had smarts in business and group management. Overlord hired them on the spot and placed them on two clearings. Some of these are not well educated, for Overlord just heard of these people and appointed them to these positions. The Lord has very little choice for nobody lives here. As in the doctor and nurse, they need more education in herbal treatments and other medical procedures, but their organizing skills are what the Overlord was after. He wishes a town now, even if he has to Mickey Mouse it together.

… On this lot was placed a guard, a doctor and a nurse working to help govern and maintain this area. They were told by Overlord to organize valley as to his rules, but these people have their own wishes. Thus, now Nurse in red skirt will order rundown commoners on vacation, or give herbal medicines. Doctor in green pullover will make house calls, give money for vacations or prescribe medicines. Tommy in Red gladiator suit, will see the groups are organized and guard the Queen as well as the rest here. But how can Tommy guard their Queen when she is on another lot? This is Overlord’s doing. He rules!
… Overlord lives in a big mansion near the old city by of river. He has strict rules for the commoners and has many cops and guards to see his laws and orders are followed. All can plant garden right away for food. But commoners must wait for crop money, which will allow them to buy major appliances and home materials. But if garden not kept up, seeds will be taken. Those who are sick will not be able to keep up and may be sent away. So the people of this valley must hide much from this tyrant ruler.
… This government group need not grow crops though, for food will come from other places via Overlord. But they do need shelter and must build as Overlord requests. They also are appointed minor jobs to do, like making signage for main paths, which were named a century ago. This group found that delightful and knew it would make directions much simpler than to say, by the Big Oak Tree with three main trunks … or the likes. This Governor Group on Sweet Ridge Way, has to get jobs to serve commoners with money, especially at start. Jobs come from other towns mostly, and are sought through local 3-page paper or from Internet if you are rich enough to buy a computer. Ha, Not many are. Our group here gets an allowance so was able to get very basic essentials when they were first hired. Essentials as dictated by Overlord are outhouse, a place to sleep and a cabinet to store and prepare food on that comes weekly. When they have enough funds they can buy other things including wood for a shelter.
… In this early spring, as we approach this lot of the Governing Body, we see nurse and doctor standing almost inside this bush. Nurse was talking of wishing a car to travel by. Doc answered by saying, ‘I scout miles of this area daily, and most are doing OK.’ Guard Tommy of government group came near this doctor and nurse saying, ‘I went by queen’s lot a few days back, and told Queen Claire she has to take care of commoners if they come by. I said this, for saw a commoner go by with Claire ignoring her. Heavens! I had to tell her, ‘That is your job!’ If she does not come through for Overlord, he will pull the plug on all of us!’ Tommy went on with, ‘I feel the Queen should have others with her for better sailing. I met Queen today and this Overlord had visited her already and gave her a bad time. Next time I will talk with queen and maybe move in.’ Doc queried, ‘Maybe we can get her to come here?’ Nurse agreed ‘Yes, we could all get good jobs in towns near, so to bring in more money and build a home. Then our queen will come willingly.’ Doc Brad commented ‘Yes, we have the essentials now so we will start right away on a shelter. Let’s make plans for the shelter now.’

… Later after an hour of discussing how big and how many rooms, they gathered and were studying for their jobs. The nurse closing the book she was studying, turned to view Wandering Ted coming in concern. This fellow is often seen, for he wanders area offering help to many. This time though, he has the problem. Ted announced ‘I know we have not been here long but I have problems with my stomach.’ Nurse Terrance checked him out and told him, ‘It is too many greens along with too much tension.’ Ted exclaimed, ‘Oh it is my friend, we are not getting on.’ She took him to some sparse-feathery, tall looking plants under these trees as saying, ‘These Dill leaves are for calming your nerves. Put a pot on fire and bring to boil, put a handful of leaves in and let sit for 20 min., then drink. It will help.’ Ted smiled saying ‘Good to know, and thank you.’
… As he was leaving he asked ‘Why is our Queen alone on a lot? She should have company? I already have a hut built…’ ‘Oh’ chimed nurse, interrupting Ted, ‘Maybe you could have her stay at your lot.’ ‘No’ stated Ted, ‘that is not the way to go, for I like my privacy.’ Nurse thought for a minute then questioned, ‘Would you like to move into her lot and have her stay on yours for a while? Or maybe ask if she wants you to help her build? We are busy here trying to go onward with our shelter. We will send you money when you get things set up.’ ‘OK but not right now. I must rest for I do not feel well.’ ‘Sure’ uttered Nurse Terrance, ‘Drink the tea from those leaves I talked of, OK?’ ‘Yes thanks,’ and off went Ted.

… As our group here at Government lot went on studying, Overlord had come into their little studying corner and stood in disgust. Then he cleared his throat and they all looked up. The doctor was upset and folded his arms turning away. Nurse met Overlord saying, ‘Sorry, we did not know you were here.’ ‘Well’ stated Overlord. ‘You have to do better than that. Why are you standing about?’ Nurse explained ‘We go to work later and were studying for our jobs.’ ‘Well this town will not get on its feet by studying. It takes hard work of which you are incapable of in that long dress. What do you expect to be?’
… Then the guard came between them and stated, ‘She will be helping people much with her knowledge, you wait!’ Overlord announced ‘Yes, I have been waiting and am still waiting. From the looks of things here, I will be waiting for a long time. You see that there is a house built here before I return, or you will have my help, and you will slave for a living. Be warned, all! Slavery is in my grasp. … I will call others who Know what they are doing. Now get busy!’ He then turned with a nasty look and went off.
… The three stood silent. Then the guard uttered ‘Heavens, we must band together with our Queen and build what we can. In this way Overlord will see some progress.’ ‘Yes’ agreed nurse. ‘We will go to Queen’s lot now.’ Doc Brad stated ‘We must at least ask what to do. We have no money to spend on materials for building, so for get it! How can we build?’ Nurse called ‘Come on people, onward and upward. ‘
… As they watched Overlord disappear in the distance they slowly went towards Queen’s lot next door. But this valley is sparsely populated, and with the expansion of wilderness between lots, it took them half an hour to get next door. The queen was surprised and glad to see them, for she now has company.

Queen’s Government Lot. (appointed by Overlord).
… So on this new lot at the cross paths of Sweet Ridge Way and Gun Shot Trail is residing Queen Claire in red dress, Nurse Terrance in long red skirt, Doctor Brad in green jacket and Guard Tommy in golden armor. Their plan for now is to work together to bring one lot in good standing with Overlord.
… In the first week here they were able to build a small home for their Queen on her lot, but her staff objected to leaving her alone, especially when there were rumors of bad things happening in area. After much conversation and with retro-spec of what this Overlord was like, they have agreed to live under the same roof.
… In 2nd week Queen had announced that every one in this group should study, for this will make a well-groomed town. Somebody mentioned, ‘There was a comment by Overlord saying studying was a waist of time.’ Claire replied , ‘But if we study indoors Overlord will not see! Let’s pull up our socks and study well.’ (Claire was put in charge of this town and she must run town to Overlord’s liking or he will step in and change things. But this does not mean she can’t have extras on the side.)
… Later one week as they were studying, two cops came by. Our people here spend much time in their small home for protection, but when cops of Overlord come, they have no choice but to meet. Claire asked Guard Tommy, ‘Please go see what they wish.’ Later he came back and stated, ‘They told me that since we have such a nice home in this short time, there will be extra taxes deducted from last years funds. We also have to pay within the month, for all are jealous of our progress and Overlord Tram may pull the plug and order us out. Claire could not believe what she was hearing. Here Overlord is screaming for progress, and yet when they make that progress they are fined? ‘What the heck does this slave driver want?’
… Tommy went out again, for cops were still there. They turned out to be friendly for they were city cops who Claire helped to hire. Queen Claire decided to go out, just as Tommy had sent one cop away. He then saw a commoner walking down Sweet Ridge way.
… Claire came out with a few jokes and was able to talk to cop. When cop was in good mood Claire asked, ‘Why are we being charged more for this land. This is becoming a stumbling block to us.’ It turns out that again, Overlord is not happy and wants a town, Now. ‘Well’ stated Claire, ‘He will have to wait for our town, just like the rest of us. Who does he thing he is? We are doing the best we can! I wish I could make him come here and live, then he would know the conditions we are living in.’
(All in this valley cater to Overlord for their paychecks. They have no choice unless they get a job in another town.)

… As Claire was talking to this cop, she saw something strange. Bobby a commoner walked by, then came back and stopped. Was he afraid to go on? Or was he eves dropping? What is happening in this area in this 4th week of story?
… Claire asked her guard to go talk to this commoner and later it was heard that Bobby, the one Queen asked Tommy to speak to, had seen a stranger murder another. He thought it was Overlord. But as this info was being acquired we see Doctor running out of fenced yard at government house. What did he hear? And where is he going? Strange things happening here?
… A bit later in this nice April weather, Queen was on her way to nap and doctor stopped her. He announced, ‘We must get seeds to plant.’ Queen announced, ‘I will not be planting but yes, we can go to market for seeds. I may come upon some herbal seeds?’
…Later, the nurse had gone outside and after a bit they heard her squeal. The guard and doctor ran to help. When they got to her they asked if she was OK. Nurse Terrance uttered in fear, ‘I saw the Overlord coming, but then he stopped as a commoner had come for help. The commoner was beaten by Overlord and is on the ground over there!’ ‘Good Heavens!’ uttered Tommy. Nurse Terrance took Guard and Doc to the scene of the crime, but commoner had died and Overlord was long gone. Terrance uttered fearfully, ‘We have to do something or I will leave this place. We must tell Queen now. Where is she?’ Doc Brad stated ‘Yes, she is still inside. We will go back and talk.’
… Just then the bus came that they had ordered. The guard called to Queen Claire to come for bus. Just before Queen had gotten on bus she saw Joey Hadrol, Najjar. She was unsure if to say something. He looked upset and came from direction of the one who died. He did wish to speak to her but she got on bus. As she got on bus she thought, I must speak to the people here and find out what is happening. I am a poor queen if all my people are in trouble. It must be one of Joey’s people who died, for Joey is walking by very abrupt, obviously in total shock. But just as driver was closing door, Joey ran and got on bus.
… Well you can imagine… all rode that bus in shock. Not much was said but they just looked at each other. They all had the feeling that they were in the wrong place. After a bit Joey specified, ‘You must do something, for that fellow was my relative. How do I break the news to the people on my lot? … Spacers! What to do?’

… Later at Joe’s Market a Najjar boy in red runners, stopped Queen Claire and ask ‘Are we in danger?’ Uncle Joey was standing close by, along with others. Queen realized that most knew of these doings. She remembers her guard got upset with her a few weeks back for ignoring her subjects. At that point she was overwhelmed with things to do just to get set up on her own lot, especially with Overlord giving her a bad time. Her guard may have known of these doings at that time? Claire asked the boy in red shoes, ‘Do you know where Overlord lives?’ Boy replied ‘No but he lives in area. Are you going to arrest him and put him in jail?’ Queen smiled and went to Joey who stood near friend Shawn. She quietly asked them to help her find out where Overlord lives, and she would gather others to go pay a visit. Shawn uttered ‘Not so fast! We need more people, for if there are many of us Overlord cannot harm us.’ They all agreed and will investigate these doings.

… Still at market, as others were getting seeds Queen snuck away to Wishing Well, and prayed. The child called Monish Najjar walked near and saw her praying. Later Queen found a small hut at Joe’s Market with a chair inside. Door was open so she went in to have a quiet sit.
Just outside hut, suddenly Doc Brad walked quickly to guard Tommy and uttered hastily, ‘Look over there! Who is that?’ Nurse was coming up behind them for she saw the same person. It was another guard coming their way. Who is he and whom does he work for? The only people they have seen prior are cops. Doc stepped towards seeds and left guard and nurse. Guard Tommy thought he should stay near nurse, as she was a lady with little defense. The stranger came very near them. But then this stranger (Dick) went to Wishing Well as our guard Tommy found Queen in hut. Queen ordered him to, ‘Go phone bus and we will go home now.’

… As Guard Tommy went around to phone, this stranger Dick almost ran into him. They chatted quietly. ‘Who do you work for?’ Dick replied ‘I work for our leader!’ Tommy noted this guard was proud of what he said. Tommy then asked, ‘Why are you here?’ ‘Oh, I was asked to keep people in line. Overlord does not wish…’ Guard stopped short glancing about, then whispered ‘Banshees on this land.’ He went on with, ‘Overlord wants only good people here.’ Tommy questioned, ‘Oh is that why he beat an elderly man up and left him to die?’ Dick uttered Ha, ‘Do not be silly Sir, you have had too much sun. Overlord is a very kind person!’ Guard Tommy looked at him sternly in fright, and the stranger left shortly after. Tommy phoned for bus, then went to talked to Queen of what the stranger said.
… On bus going home, Tommy spoke to them all. When they got off bus they hesitated to go into shelter right away. They stood in wonderment, viewing their nice small home. Queen Claire does not wish to work under these conditions and she knows others were of same mind. She heard there were many under Overload’s rule, as in guards and cops. She knew she could not collect enough men to overrule him and realized her plan of getting 5-6 men to go there, was not feasible. What to do?

The Wandering Ted.
… Most people in this land have several on a lot for security. Not Ted! He is a loner and resides in one corner of this valley. Nobody knew much about him and he sort of just appears where he goes. How will he survive? First thing he did when he found this lot on Wild Cat Trail was turn some sod, for farming will survive him even if he gets a job.
… One time he met Claire but did not know her. (Only the runner of this valley.) He is happy to meet anyone at this point. ‘Hi there, where do you live?’ he asked. ‘Oh not far from here thanks.’ uttered Claire. Ted replied ‘So do you have a house built?’ ‘Well not yet but I am trying my best’ answered Claire. Ted uttered ‘Holy! I can help! Tell me where you live and I’ll be over.’ Claire exclaimed, ‘Well that is very nice of you Sir, I may take you up on that. I am just across the river to the SE. Turn right when you get over the bridge and you will know my lot. I am using very dark cherry wood for my home. And the wood is waiting beside the main path called Gun shot Trail. But sir, what about you?’ ‘Oh I am fine. I just arrived and started digging a garden here.’ ‘Yes I see’ quipped Claire. ‘Please come by anytime. I will help you financially if you wish.’ ‘Well I just got a job’ perked Ted. ‘OK thanks’ uttered Claire, ‘I will wait your help.’ and Claire went off home. She was impressed that one should offer her help, when he did not have a shelter or even some place to sit. I must keep this fellow in mind.

… Ted arrived to this valley very early and did offer Overlord help in the beginning, but they argued and did not get on. This concerned Ted for he saw a tough ruler in this person who dubbed himself “Overlord”. Ted decided to go to the old section of town. He has his favorite areas that not many know of. Being a quiet secretive man, he enjoys his trips to this secret corner of valley, especially when life gets to him.
… Later Ted found a bag of stuff on his lot and opened it. He was pleased with some of the stuff, and sold some to others. He had heard that it was the Welcome Wagon who puts these out. He felt that the Overlord was arranging something right after all. It was very late, but he got out shopping with the money he got from sales. With over half the money, he got a couch ordered, just the right size for snoozing. With having a bit of food and gone potty in his secret corner of town, he came home and settled in for the night. Things seem to go smoothly for this chap. He stays in old town much, for has friends there. Ted spends much time just wandering about and if he meets one he chats with them. This goes on often, so-much-so the other inhabitants in this valley started calling him Wandering Ted. They did not know much more about him but he was friendly and always asked if one needed help. He soon became the talk of many in bad times.

… One day in April Ted visited government lot, for heard a nurse was present. He has had stomach problems lately and nurse talked to him of herbal remedies. She told him, ‘If you feel nauseated take ginger or mint tea. Make it fairly strong and sipping hot to relax the nerves. She talked of other teas he could make to relax him before he slept. He thanked her and went his way.
… Back home on Wild Cat Trail, the small table from the Welcome Wagon group, came in handy. It was no treasure, just 3 legs and a top. A do it yourselfer for sure. But this night he put pizza on it and later used table to put leaves together, the nurse had prescribed for his stomach. Maybe he will get a better sleep tonight.

… One day Ted just got home from work and there was Claire. He remembered her and went right away. She asked, ‘Do you wish help.’ He replied ‘No, you are the one who needs help.’ Claire asked, ‘Why do you say that?’ ‘Because, I am able to maintain myself in wilderness, for have been there before. You have not. Can I help you?’ Claire looked him in the eyes and replied ‘Yes, well maybe?’ He agreed ‘Yes?’ Claire questioned, ‘Do you know the ruler of this land?’ ‘Oh’ uttered Ted. ‘Well, I do but not that well. I have met him. Why?’ Claire asked if he was a friend with Overlord for they looked much alike.’ ‘Ha-ha No not really, I just met him. It was more a business meeting.’ He questioned again, ‘Why?’ Claire explained ‘My people saw him do bad stuff to another. Are you aware of this?’ ‘NO!’ spoke Ted strongly. ‘If this is so, you people must watch out. I will find out what is happening.’ Claire being concerned for Ted, commented ‘Well you should not go on your own. He has many men behind him. Take others with you when you go.’ Ted answered ‘No it is fine. We have spoken before.’
… Claire did not mean to alarm him but she had to warn him. She warned ‘If you go there, you may be in danger.’ ‘Oh?’ queried Ted. ‘Yes’ uttered Claire. ‘My people saw him beat an old man till he died. That is my concern.’ ‘Holy, this cannot be!’ shrieked Ted. ‘I will certainly look into this. I will let you know what I find.’ Claire warned ‘Please be careful.’ ‘Yes’ agreed Ted, ‘and thank you. You go to your lot and stay low till I let you know.’ He turned to go in, then thought …
… Ted turned back to Claire and asked ‘But now I must ask you a question. Who is running this town for him?’ Claire smiled and spoke quietly, ‘I am.’ ‘What!’ shrieked Ted. ‘This is no place for a lady. No, you let another come.’ Ted was about to open his mouth again and he stopped himself. Claire looked puzzled. ‘What I mean to say,’ explained Ted, ‘is you should have help of good strong men on your side. This is an untamed land as of yet.’ Claire consoled ‘It is all right, Overlord has many cops and guards to protect us. And I have a guard and doctor with me on my lot.’ ‘Yeah?’ questioned Ted. ‘I thought you were alone on your lot?’ ‘No’ answered Claire, ‘That was a while ago when I told you that. My people asked to stay with me. All is good now. Do you know Sir, who Stew is? He is on a lot somewhere here?’ ‘No’ answered Ted. ‘I have not seen him. I am pretty busy for by my self.’ ‘Yes’ agreed Claire. ‘You should have help yourself in this … untamed land, did you call it?’ ‘Oh’ Ha-Ha, ‘I am fine. You go home to your family and take care. I will phone you later. What is your number?’ After this Claire gave him 500 bucks to get started and went home. He was very pleased with that, for he is not having much luck on this land. He will be sure to pay her back.

… One day Elizabeth Chan came by and she chatted about her friend Saraya and her, on a lot claiming more land for Turko group. She did not know much about doings in area, but Ted told her to be careful.
… Later he went to his old secret corner of town. He is one with great plans and his mind is going always. He cannot sit idle so goes to where there is activity, however little it is. When there he visited the old circus. He saw a cop there and went to talk. As it turned out this cop was working for Overlord. Just as they were speaking a hoodlum type guy abruptly came by and told cop, ‘Come with me!’ and they walked away.
… Ted used the toilet and wanted to go home. He is tired and needs food and rest. But before he left, he saw another and found it was Stew, the one Claire talked of. He could see a very kind fellow who was very smart and knows much more than he lets on. They lightly talked of different things before Ted left. Ted does not like to say much of what was happening at home. He liked meeting these people in the old town, away from other circumstances. He heard from others of the beating by Overlord and he is going to look into this as well. Claire met him again, at least twice. He does not wish help from others but goes about offering much help to the people he meets. Who is he?

… Few days later Elizabeth Chan came by again and talked with Ted, for they have been getting extra tax bills. ‘Yes’ answered Ted. ‘I am going to have to pay them a visit.’ ‘Well’ questioned Elizabeth, ‘I do not think that is a good idea. They have many cops and guards on their lot. I went by there once but did not make myself known.’ ‘That is OK’ uttered Ted. ‘I know him from past. He would let me come in.’ Elizabeth smiled and went her way.
… Ted Handson was smart. He kept all his things hidden so when people came by with bills, he was nowhere to be seen. Most do not know he is of this valley. He only lets his presence be known to the right people.
… One time at market, Ted talked to Queen Mother while nurse walked by. They talked of people with big mouths and how their best plans are made a rye by some. He told Queen in confidence that Overlord was a relative of his and he wished to talk to him about the beatings and big tax Bills. ‘Yes good’ agreed Mother. ‘We will support you in whatever transpires.’ ‘Far Out’ uttered Ted. ‘I must go now thanks. But keep that to yourself. Maybe you will own this town later?’ While at market Ted rested before going home. But meanwhile Overlord had visited Market, and left shortly after. Ted missed an important opportunity.

… Few weeks later Ted met Elijah and talked about the trip here and how all wished to better them selves. ‘Ah-ha uttered Elijah. ‘That was a while ago for us. We were one of first groups in area. I was still a child, and with my other three siblings, we grew up here. It was rough and we managed. But now these taxes are going to make all go back to where we came.’ Ted stated ‘No, before that happens I will take a few steps.’ Elijah informed ‘Well if you wish help let me know. I learned Karate when younger. I’m good for a swing or two.’ ‘OK’ chuckled Ted, ‘We will see if you can have a few swings as you put it? Thanks for talking, I must go now.’ ‘Sure, please call me.’ Ted smiled and went to phone bus.
… Back home he often worked on his little garden in the seclusion of his forested area. He enjoys time to himself and is more a woodsman than a businessman. On this day, He went to work and when he got home he had a tax bill in the mail. He dropped it on ground and went to his only couch, and sat for hours in thought. What will he do?
… Ted called Elizabeth about mid May and she invited him over to chat. Ted found his way to Central Way and they talked of taxes. Ted told her in confidence, that Overlord was his brother. He had to go talk to his brother soon. He is preparing for this especially after that 500-tax bill he got in mail. He will not involve any others on this trip to Brothers, for he does not wish people to be hurt. But he has to find out if Brother is misusing his station.

Overlord’s Party.
… Later one night in June, Wandering Ted was called over to government lot on Sweet Ridge Way to talk to Claire of problems. Here Claire has a dinner made as she awaits Ted’s arrival. Wandering Ted Handson did arrive and they talked of a party and how nice it would be when their town was on its feet. Claire told him of more doings and she stated, ‘Something has got to be done!’ Ted asked, ‘Will you come with me to visit Overlord? We will just visit, not pushing ourselves upon him in any way, so it will not be dangerous. I just want to meet him and chat about things. He knows you so it will be a friendly conversation.’ ‘Maybe’ questioned Queen Claire, ‘if you think so?’ ‘It will be OK!’ uttered Ted. ‘Just a friendly reminder that his brother is still watching him. You know.’ Claire turned and looked at him. She could see his strength and determination and she smiled as accepting the trip to Overlords.

… Many months into this story and not many people knew of this visit. Queen Claire and her guard Tommy were with Ted as they approached Overlord’s Summer Mansion on First Place loop. As they approached, our people couldn’t see who was in mansion yard, for the high fencing about. No one can see over fencing even when at entrance, but the fencing seems to echo the sounds from within. Ted and Claire were discussing last minute preparations as follows. ‘We will just play it cool, but I hear they are out in the yard now.’ ‘Wait’ cautioned Ted. ‘Sh … ‘
… Tommy guard heard someone coming and turned towards sound to protect Ted and Claire. Then he saw a guard of Overlord coming around corner of fencing. ‘Hi’ uttered Tommy, ‘Are we aloud to enter? It sounds like you are having a party?’ Guard asked ‘So, what is your business here?’ Then guard saw Ted. ‘Oh Hi, what are you doing here? Come in Please, come in!’ Then guard also saw Claire. ‘Oh, I am sorry! Its you too! Come in please!’
…As they were going into yard Guard went on with, ‘Overlord’s Wife is having a birthday.’ Claire asked ‘They would not mind if we came?’ ‘No-No’ answered Guard. ‘Besides we would like different people here. It is a change for us too.’ They all continued into yard where cake and much food was being served. As they went in the party was just getting started. Overlord uttered ‘Gees, its you brother! Thank you for coming. I did not know you remembered my Wife’s Birthday? You never remember mine? What is that all about?’ ‘No!’ answered Ted, ‘I’m usually so busy that it passes my mind. I was in area and we heard party horns. Is it right if we come join you?’ ‘Well sure’ uttered Overlord, as he turned to his many guards and stated, ‘My brother is welcome anytime!’ He then asked Ted, ‘Who did you bring with you? Oh Hi Claire, How is my town?’ ‘OK’ answered Claire quietly. ‘Too many taxes though.’ Overlord just stared at her.
… Ted spoke up and explained’ Excuse my accompaniment, we have had a bad week. Too many complaints.’ ‘Gees’ uttered Overlord. ‘Well we will have to do something about that.’ Tommy guard was quiet. He felt they had said too much already. The party kept going but we will see what happens. In another corner Doctor was gossiping to Claire about Ted. He does not know what to think. He queried, ‘Brother Overlord accepted us like there was nothing wrong? He does not look as if he would hurt a fly.’ Claire uttered ‘Sh… We will discuss this later OK?’

..Overlord was about to blow out his candles. He explained to the crowd saying. ‘It’s my better half’s birthday, but she wished to make a cake for me too. So it’s a double do!’ Meanwhile we scan area and see Overlord cops standing guard as always and the Overlord himself now blows out his candles on his cake and a bit later Overlord’s Wife cleans up dishes while most are still eating. We see beside table, Ted talking with Doc Brad. Doc was not asked by Ted to come, but was in area so dropped by. He can tell others first hand what he saw in his travels.
… In another corner of table all by themselves, was Overlord Guard talking quietly with Overlord. The conversation was about why the other people came here. ‘Is it a trick?’ asked Guard Dan. ‘I do not know?’ answered Overlord. ‘I will be going away soon on vacation and I want you to take charge. Do not let anyone into lot when I am away, is that Clear?’ ‘Yes’ answered Guard Dan. ‘I will send the other people away as soon as they all have a chat. There is nothing wrong with a chat Sir. Guard leaned over and commented quietly, ‘Nobody knows really what is happening here.’ Overlord then stated, ‘I leave it in your hands and I will talk to my cops too. There is another 500-tax credit coming. We need a swimming pool before next summer.’ ‘Yes!’ uttered Guard, ‘That is Great.’ Overlord uttered, ‘Sh… easy does it. You stick with me and our town will provide us with all the riches we need.’ They went on eating and nothing more was said.

… Inside the home of Overlord there was a commotion, for dishwasher flooded kitchen. Claire took this opportunity to ask if there were going to be more taxes. Overlord answered ‘Well yes! Everyone pays taxes Claire, you should know that?’ ‘Of course’ replied Claire, ‘But the expense is killing your people.’ Overlord informed, ‘So if they cannot cope, they should move out. There are other places to go!’ Claire did not like that answer. She replied, ‘But they are building your town, for you! You do not have thankfulness in your heart? You will be a rich man for many years if you only charge them a bit per year.’ ‘Yeah-Yeah! Why don’t you mind your own business and let me cope with the people here?’ ‘Well!’ uttered Claire, ‘They come to me for help and I’ve been giving them our money. Some are starving out there, you know?’ Overlord stated ‘That is not my problem. They should get better jobs if that is the case. I just gave Joe’s Market on Market Lane, 5 thousand for a face-lift. You go there and see for yourself, then go and tell your people that I am working in their interest. And please do that, right away! I want happy people in my town, not sapsuckers.’ Claire made a face and turned away. She was on her way out to find Ted and tell him what Overlord had said. As she was walking away though, Overlord slapped her on the buttock. His Cop and guard working in kitchen at that point, suddenly turned when Claire yelped. All eyes were on Overlord when he questioned, ‘What did I do?’ ‘Claire, you go tell your people that I have fixed up Market Place for their comfort. There are 3 times as many toilets now.’ ‘Yeah’ uttered Claire, as she muttered something else on her way out the door.

… When Queen Claire left, Overlord went to cop and guard working in kitchen there. He asked ‘Have you two got your knives handy, we do not want a mutiny here. Always when you’re at the top, there are people who wish to undo what you have done. We must be careful.’ ‘Yes’ agreed guard. Cop stated ‘Well I know the laws here and I will certainly arrest one who makes trouble Sir.’ ‘True Blue’ agreed Overlord, ‘Good fellows, Just so long as you are prepared. And again, thanks for your support.’
… As Claire was leaving Overlord’s home, she glanced into yard. There she saw two rockets. She hurried to the cage where these war weapons were kept. This put chills up and down her spine. She stood there for a minute in shock. It turned out that as she went running to this fencing, she had yelped again. Ted Handson had heard this from just inside and was alerted. ‘He came a running also.’ As he got near her he asked, ‘Are you OK my Queen?’ ‘Oh’ uttered Claire with a tremble in her voice. ‘These rockets are dangerous and will ruin the width of a large clearing, if Overlord decides to aim them at us.’ Still with fear in her voice, she turned to Ted and stated ‘We are in over our heads here.’ Ted just stood there puzzling of what to do. Claire remembered Ted telling her of tunnels on his property. She asked ‘Are those tunnels of yours large to hold several people?’ ‘Well I can enlarge them.’ agreed Ted, ‘But not too much. It is only dirt tunnels. But yes, if war broke out we will head for the tunnels. It is far from this side of river. You will be safer there, Claire. Come, we will just leave here now, with no more confrontations.’ ‘Yes please’ pleaded Claire. ‘You just wait till you hear what Overlord said to me. Come lets get out of here.’ She saw Guard Tommy and waved at him. He came in a hurry and they snuck out of area.
… Ted took Claire and Company home and arrived in 20 minutes. He then left telling them he would check on his tunnels for security and let them know the outcome. Claire and Tommy stayed on walk as Ted wandered homeward out of sight. Claire commented to Tommy, ‘Now that is a gentleman.’

Chapter 3 … Three Wealthy Brothers.

Elijah and Yasmin Najjar (Chaudhry).
… In June, Rikki’s son Elijah the eldest and daughter Yasmin the youngest, found this area with no shrubs at all on the corner of Ashley Path and First Place. Yasmin cares for clothing and looks, more than older sister Mona. She enjoys nature and will have fun planting here. She and Elijah took 1500 from parent lot to buy this clearing, so now have 700 left. Not much but if they find good jobs it will be OK.
… The Government doctor came and Elijah talked with him while Yasmin found local paper and looked for work. As a rule the doctor or nurse sends lowest person of a group on vacation but all are healthy here. Instead, Doctor Brad talked to Elijah of proper clothing for fall months. Helping people in need is main reason government sends this doctor and nurse out.
… Later in week we see our two have no shelter yet and the clearing is barren, but weather is warm being into summer months. These two both have menial jobs but with luck will get better jobs. Any meat they find they cook on an open fire. They brought from home several books to study, but for relaxation they can just sit and listen to all the birds flapping around and screaming their warning calls to stay off their property. It is interesting to watch the dancing robins in early spring.
… Mid June, as in real life when you are at your lowest point, a good thing happens. Yasmin answered phone and a friend had finally paid her the 1200 dollars he owed her. So now they are good for money but the job lines were poor again today. Later in day as the sun warmed up the cool air, they decided to plant crops in hopes to bring in more money. Their lot is still barren except for a few pieced of furniture and an outhouse in one corner. The garden got a stake wood fencing about to help keep the animals away, in hopes they will have some food. This lot is not doing well. What has happened?
… On another day they went to market and talked to Davy Cite in the Relaxation Hut. But it was actually Davy who wanted to talk to Yasmin. Why? Meanwhile Elijah met Stew who is a Prince, although most do not know this. In the Relaxing Hut there are several comfy chairs and even a large TV, but our two were not interested in TV and went on talking of travel and parties. A bit later Davy Cite had left hut then came back and saw Elijah still talking to Stew so he went up to Yasmin saying, ‘Are you people plush for money?’ ‘Fine, thanks’ answered Yasmin. Davy informed ‘Well a big tax bill is coming. We got notice in mail yesterday. I wish to warn people I meet, for some may have an expense of 500.’ ‘We’re sunk! … That is not fair!’ uttered Yasmin, Why so much?’ ‘Not sure’ replied Davy, ‘but there is rumor that some wish to overthrow this government soon.’ ‘Ha, That’s a shocker’ stated Yasmin, ‘Count me in.’ Davy uttered ‘Great, I must go now. Bye.’

… Back at home on another day, Guard Tommy of Gov. came along with Nurse Terrance. Elijah and Tommy talked of clothing. Nurse talked to Yasmin of not having a shower. Nurse knew they had to have a shower so gave them a voucher to help. Yasmin with eyes wide open exclaimed ‘Oh thanks!’ Not only was it enough for a basic shower but also for a basic shelter. Nurse instructed ‘Go to market when you can and give this to them. They will deliver the goods that day, OK?’ ‘Oh thank you’ answered Yasmin. ‘That is very kind. Who does this come from?’ Nurse Terrance answered, ‘Queen Claire who is officially running this village.’ She went on saying, ‘Overlord hired this Queen but at times he steps in. I feel he is greedy, and at times very rude. You people beware of this Overlord and his Wife.’ ‘Sure’ uttered Elijah who was coming towards them. ‘Thanks loads and come again anytime.’
… Guard Tommy was near and asked ‘Do you have work yet?’ ‘My Saints yes’ answered Elijah, ‘in fact the car to pick me up will be here any time.’ Yasmin said ‘All is fine, I have work later too. Please thank this queen for us. I did not know there was a queen here?’ But we have another lot just over that way where our brother and sister are starting out. Could you visit them?’ ‘Yes’ spoke guard Tommy. ‘We wander about so are sure to visit most lots within a day. If we find them in good shape we do not interfere for all are to progress this area to their liking. Only if there is a chance of death or hardships unbearable, do we step in. You people do not have a structure even started here?’ ‘Ah-ha’ expounded Elijah, ‘we had a slip up but we have food storage and fridge of food. I felt that was better than keeping dry. It has not rained for a few weeks so we are good.’ Tommy guard uttered ‘Heavens, it is better to lock yourself in, for there are bad people in area who will take advantage of you.’ Yasmin stated ‘You see Elijah, I told you that a bit ago. We should focus on a building now.’ ‘He turned to Yasmin saying Sure, we will this month, but I must go to work now.’ Elijah turned back to the guard and informed, the car is here but thanks for coming. I will get that shower early tomorrow also, Bye.’ Yasmin uttered ‘So be it, we will manage.’ Nurse agreed ‘Good, you get that shower right away and start building a shelter for the fall.’ She went on saying, ‘These summer storms we get can be damaging. If you are in trouble Please let us know.’ They shook hands and governing people left. Cindy Cite walked by as Terrance and Tommy were leaving down Ashley Path. Cindy gets about in this area. She is a restless sort and is probably looking for Mr. Right.

… One afternoon, just before Elijah got home from work, the phone rang. It was for Yasmin who entered a contest back home a while ago. To her delight, she had won money and it will be sent by special delivery this very day. When Yasmin hung up she stood there staring at the phone that just made them richer.
… Late June and not only do they have money for shower from Gov. they have extra money and can also pay that large tax bill that came few days back. Why they have to pay taxes when they have only a counter and food storage is beyond them. Yasmin remembered talking to Davy Cite last week then thought maybe there is gold under this grass? There has to be, for it to cost so much? I wish I had a pan. Later we see Yasmin planning of what she would like in their new home. She is more a homebody herself so the idea of a dwelling here is pleasing her much. She wants a comfortable placed to lounge in, with her wardrobes of 6 long dresses. She was always an elegant dresser and now she knows what her goal is for the future.

… Later that day, just as they were leaving to get shower, Isaiah the youngest brother of family came by. Elijah apologized ‘Sorry we have to go to market. You know these buses, they will not wait for two seconds longer than norm.’ ‘Later’ commented Isaiah, ‘it’s nothing important.’ ‘I’ll talk to you soon.’ Then the bus went bouncing down Sweet Ridge Way in a cloud of dust.

At Market.
… Tommy Guard was at market when Elijah and Yasmin got off bus. They smiled and Elijah state ‘We are here to get our shower.’ ‘Way to go and thank you for following through.’ chimed Tommy. ‘This makes us look good to Tram.’ Our people took a short jaunt elsewhere and ordered a shower, then came back to market for more seeds.
… Before they left market they sat in Relaxation Hut. A few minutes later while watching TV, our two were making moves to go home as Guard Tommy was speaking with Elijah. Then Tommy disappeared literally. Elijah was dumb-founded. He had just turned to look at a crucial point in the TV program, but when he turned back, Tommy was gone.
… This all happened as Yasmin was turning about to sit herself down. As she sat she realized Tommy was not beside her? She asked ‘Where did the guard go?’ Elijah answered with astonishment, ‘I don’t know! He was right here a second ago! He did not have time to go through that door?’ … ‘Did He?’ … Yasmin asked, ‘Is he from Mars?’ Elijah stated, ‘I’m not sure?’ … ‘But we should get back!’
… After a moment of thought Elijah explained ‘And it was them who gave us that voucher for the shower. I don’t know what is going on?’ Yasmin commented ‘Well if we have a shower tomorrow we know they were real, at least partly?’ ‘Ah-ha’ uttered Elijah as looking in wonderment at Yasmin. Then he stated ‘We should not speak of this to anyone and see what happens. We may be hallucinating, maybe because too hungry?’ ‘So be it’ answered Yasmin, ‘Maybe too much gas? The greens we eat give a lot of that.’ Elijah uttered ‘Hu…’ then went to phone bus to go home. Yasmin followed after a quiet think at the scene of the bewilderment. They had the cabin to themselves so no others knew of this disappearance.

… Still at Joe’s Market, as Elijah was on phone he saw the wife of Overlord walking about market. He hid near phone as Wife came out and got on bus. Elijah thought, I wonder if the bad people here have magical powers. If so, she will be the reason of the disappearance.
… Before bus came for our two, Yasmin saw her sister Mona, talking to a pet mina-bird and went to speak. Yasmin told Mona of the nurse and guard giving them a voucher for shower. She stated ‘I also mentioned you and Isaiah, so maybe they would help you too?’ Mona said ‘Bless you, they come often and know we are OK. Are you in trouble on your clearing?’ ‘Not really,’ answered Yasmin. ‘I guess they were worried about a shelter. It will be getting cooler at night, but did you hear that storm last week?’ Mona uttered ‘Holy! That was surreal. We were protected with our small shelter. A shelter was one of the first things I talked about to Isaiah. I would have thought that, since Elijah is the oldest among us he would know to put a shelter up first?’ Yasmin stated ‘Oh tough luck, there is our bus. But to answer that question, No we went with food. I would rather eat than be comfy. But now we are working on comfy.’ ‘Bless you and see you later,’ replied Mona as she went back to talk to the Market’s farmer. Then as Yasmin walked toward bus she noticed all the beautiful flowers blooming in Market Place. It was a good year for the flowers. They got back home and our two people were so happy.
… In this next day they did get their shower so Tommy who disappeared, was real. With much enthusiasm, they worked for 2 hours and were able to build a foundation, with a bit of wall but now they are out of money again. I guess a basic shelter has no foundation.
… Later Yasmin will make breakfast while Elijah plants more in garden. After food was made Yasmin went out to garden and talked with Elijah. She stated ‘These crops will bring in a bit of money but I hope these ominous clouds do not destroy our seedlings.’ After garden scene and with a bit more money Elijah put up another portion of wall. Later before Elijah got home, Yasmin got to fridge to make dinner. But just then the mail lady came and put something in mailbox. Yasmin thought, ‘Oh No, more taxes?’ But she went on making dinner. She felt better, for their shelter wall that Elijah started earlier was shielding her from the wind that came up once in a while. Being on an open clearing the wind comes through with gusto at times.
… After Yasmin made dinner she ate a plate then sat resting while reading paper. Just then phone rang and it was the attorney of her Uncle’s Will. Uncle gave her 100 bucks in his Will. Cheapskate! She did not think much of that but its more money for the home. She went and lay down for was tired. Elijah would be home from work in a few minutes. When he got home he had a surprise for her. With the money he got this past week he bought a TV. But she has her own surprise of 100 bucks. They both ate but did not watch TV for both were very tired after that trip to market last night. They had a shower and headed for a sleep. They did speak of a party but Elijah announced ‘Save our money now, for a shelter is needed.’

… In July, this 4th month of story Elijah is in a bad way. He went to see what job was in paper, so missed work. He got a better job, but he threw out paper before Yasmin had a chance to read it. You see, a wild cat had snuck through the tall summer grasses, and Elijah almost ran into it. He was shocked at the size of this cat, being at least twice the size of a domestic cat. Because he startled it, it was ready to climb Elijah’s frame. Elijah had to think fast and threw the paper at it. This ruffled the cat and curiosity made it forage to smell the paper that flew into its face. This gave Elijah a chance to get out of immediate area. But that was not the end for poor Elijah. Later Elijah went to outhouse, when he did not have to go. He cleaned up area but threw refuse on ground by stall, instead of taking it to garbage at front. What is his problem? The end result is that neither of them worked today.
… After another day or two things settled down and by the end of July they had a nice basic shelter. Another week or two will see enough money to complete it. On top of that the summer weather had grown a wild bush near front entrance and there were some pretty tall thistles growing among the grasses on their lot. Place looks bushy and feels protected. Later Elijah stayed up very late. What is his problem? He needs to get sleep so to earn money for shelter completion. There is something not right here. He works at 4 AM and it is now 2 AM with no sleep.
…In July Yasmin and Elijah saw very little of each other. Their working schedule is at opposite times, but they are not a pair. When building gets done, Elijah may leave? He has something bothering him? Its true he does all the building, but Yasmin is not one to work hard in the attire she wears. It’s amazing she has no bow yet? There must be men at her work? I feel she needs a man to tell her what to do at times. Elijah is opposite and I think this is putting him off. Well, he only offered to help her for a time. I guess that time has gone by?
… A week later Yasmin made lunch for herself but also for Elijah. When he got home he helped himself to food as Yasmin talked of a party, but Elijah took plate outside the shelter. He has a problem again, and it’s unusual he went out with his food. People usually huddle around main food area.

… On this day, as Elijah was taking out garbage to Ashley Path, he caught sight of Cindy Cite crossing the main path of First Place. He went to talk. They talked of many things and of peace, but alas she kept turning away from him. She is always one who is on the go. I guess our man here is too plain for Cindy Cite in her fancy bell-bottoms slacks. Again Elijah is striking out. He feels inadequate in life.
… Back at the shelter Yasmin wondered what happened to Elijah that he was missing from area. Then her eyes caught sight of him speaking to another lady on the edge of their property. Yasmin remembered seeing this person at market before. She thought, I should go say hi, too. As she got near she could hear what they were talking of. So the next time Cindy walked away from Elijah, as she had done many times, Yasmin stepped in to speak to Cindy. When Elijah saw this he took off. He knew Cindy was not interested in a plain Jane. Poor Elijah, he is not having a good life the last few weeks. But here is Yasmin and Cindy talking makeup and clothing. They are both in fancy dress as well. How exciting!
… Cindy talked about the party she will throw in a week or two. ‘Please come by, we can talk and I can show you my wardrobe. That is a beautiful dress you wear. Did you make it?’ Yasmin answered ‘Yes, I make most of my clothes.’ Cindy uttered ‘Oh Bread and Butter! You have to come over and show me some tips. I try and wish I could do better, but it does not work well.’
… Yasmin broke in and explained ‘Oh, well it’s the materials that are needed dear. It is a shame this so-called town we are in, is not flying yet. I would like to have a dress shop soon.’ ‘Good’ agreed Cindy, ‘can I help you?’ ‘Fine’ answered Yasmin. ‘I will attend the party but please phone me, will you?’ ‘Of course’ uttered Cindy, ‘I will come by. This is one of my main routes I take when walking.’ Yasmin answered, ‘That is nice you dare to walk in this wild land.’ Cindy consoled ‘Do not be afraid, come with me next time. Obviously you are home at this time so I will come by later in day.’ ‘Sure!’ answered Yasmin. Cindy replied ‘Oh that is super but I should go now. Tell that nice man that I hope to see him again, for he seems kind of depressed?’ Yasmin stated ‘Yes I am not sure what his problem is. He is my brother and came here to help me. I think he is wishing to leave. I do not wish to be alone but if it happens, so be it.’ Cindy commented ‘Well I live alone. Maybe later I will ask you to stay with me? I’m not sure for I may change my life too. ‘Yes’ chuckled Yasmin. ‘I will await your call, and I will tell Elijah you said Bye.’ Cindy uttered ‘Thanks, I must go, See you later.’ and she wandered down the path of First Place.

… In Mid July Yasmin cleaned up dishes but then washer broke. She felt she should try to fix it before Elijah got home. Yasmin struggled for over 2 hours. Will she fix it before Elijah returns? Here is their daily greeting with Elijah getting home from work and Yasmin going to work. Often they just smile as passing and go on. Not much to keep them together, even a brother and sister. Between you and me, Yasmin can’t wait to go to Cindy’s party, and maybe even get in her good books to stay with her for a while. With all that has happened in this kitchen area this morning, Elijah would never know. He just quietly walked to shelter and sat watching TV. A nice rest after all that mind juggling at work.
… After he settled for a half-hour he thought, I could put more walls up for we have money now. It’s a good thing I got more wood on my way home the other day. So off Elijah went building a few panels of wall onto shelter. When he used up the lumber, he had to stop. But it’s that much closer to being complete. He is very proud of this ornate cottage on this First Place – Ashley Path conjunction, but it’s been a lot of work. In a way he hopes he can stay here. Yasmin has not told him of Cindy’s plan, so we’ll see what happens.

… Late July just as Yasmin got home in early day, the mail lady came. Yasmin uttered with boredom in her voice, ‘More bills hey?’ Mail lady replied ‘But you people have a break! There is a check here for you. I have no idea how much. This is unprecedented.’ ‘Right as rain,’ uttered Yasmin, ‘give it here!’ Mail lady took it out of box again and handed it to Yasmin. She took it and wandered further onto her lot to read it. As mail lady was leaving she could hear a shout of glee. Yasmin found that this check was from another lot. A lady there called Desi had gone by and saw their shelter still not completed and was concerned. So Desi sent a thousand bucks. That is enough to make anyone shriek.
… Later when Yasmin told Elijah about check, he apologized for being a snob. He said, ‘I have to do something else with my life. I am so bored here.’ ‘Fine’ answered Yasmin. ‘Well, if Cindy asks me to stay with her, you can have this lot yourself.’ ‘If you wish?’ uttered Elijah, ‘Why is Cindy asking you to stay with her?’ ‘Well you do not wish to talk of fashions so I will basically tell you, she and I love clothes and designing of clothes is our wish. We are going to help each other out and maybe have a shop together.’ Elijah’s eyes perked up and he uttered ‘Wow, that is the best news I have heard for a while.
… Elijah explained, ‘Now you see! This is what I mean with my life. Why am I at a standstill? I cannot find a better job and I cannot leave here till shelter is built. Here you are on your way to the top without lifting a finger.’ He stopped short speaking quickly, ‘Well you know what I mean.’ ‘Of course’ agreed Yasmin, ‘its fate. You just have to wait till fate drags you through the right doors to get you going in a new direction. If you struggle with it you may end up doing the wrong things and losing out. Or have to retrace your steps to go a more profitable way. This is life. But Elijah, I can help you finish the house right now. Come on, let’s go to Joe’s market to get more wood. We will pay with this check.’ ‘Oh sure’ chimed Elijah. ‘I will go phone for bus.’

… As Elijah was leaving her to phone, she saw Uncle Joey in the fleece forest-green hooded-jacket he always wore. She called, ‘There is Joey!’ Elijah turned on a dime for had not spoken to Joey for a long while. He went quickly to speak to Uncle. As Elijah approached uncle he said, ‘Hi there stranger, how are you doing?’ Joey answered ‘Oh lad I am fantastic. I have met a beautiful lady who really likes me. We are about to move into our own clearing.’ ‘Oh that is fantastic!’ uttered Elijah. ‘I have been not too bad, but life can be boring you know.’ Joey commented ‘You have no gal yet? With your blond hair and child like features I figured you would beat me all hollow in the ladies department?’ Elijah looked down and replied, ‘Well I am helping my sister but she is doing well.’ ‘Good’ agreed Joey, ‘I see her standing over there.’ He looked past Elijah and shouted, ‘Hi Yasm, how are you?’ she smiled and came closer. Joey commented ‘I see you haven’t got a walk to main path yet. That is mandatory and an indoor potty is in the notice today.’ Joey looked over to their mailbox and saw there was mail in it. He said, ‘Not to be your mother but, you probably have notice in your mail right now of these mandatory requirements. Just to warn you, if Overlord comes by, he will fine you much if not completed.’ Elijah agreed ‘Yes-yes, we have been in a slump last few days.’ Joey asked ‘Can I help?’ ‘No-No. Sir, I’m sure you have your business to care for.’ Joey explained, ‘Well we are broke. I mean Sharon and I, she is going to move in soon. It is in the plans, but I have no money after putting in potty and walkway.’ Elijah exclaimed ‘Here, I could spare a couple hundred for you?’ ‘Oh that would be heaven sent, just enough to make a good meal and a good impression on Sharon when she moves in that first day. You know?’ ‘Yes I do’ replied Elijah. ‘Here, spend it well Sir Uncle Joey.’ ‘Good man and thank you!’ was Joey’s reply. ‘I owe you a favor.’ They had a nice chat all in all. Then Joey had to go. ‘I must prepare for my lady’s coming. See you and thank you. … Bye.’ And he hurried out of sight.

… Next day in Aug, Elijah’s spirits were lifted with the Uncle’s chat. It inspired Elijah that maybe he can find the girl of his dreams. He got ambitious and built a small potty room and constructed the walk to main path with sawdust. That is the cheapest you can go but their money is short after potty room was built.
… Yasmin is in anticipation and getting a bit impatient, for Cindy was to call her by now to invite her to the party. She may end up phoning Cindy tonight. Later sure enough, after Elijah went to bed Yasmin went out doors and called Cindy Cite. They talked of travel and Cindy ended up saying. ‘Please come over tomorrow sometime and we will set you up here.’ ‘Oh great!’ uttered Yasmin Najjar. ‘I can’t wait to have someone to talk to in my language.’ Cindy asked ‘How is Elijah?’ Yasm said ‘Oh, he is much better. He has been very busy fixing things up here. I think he likes the idea of being only one here. We are on good terms again so all is fine. He works very early in mornings so is in bed now.’ Cindy explained, ‘I do not wish to break up a family group. Only if all is clear? I feel there is no point in making bad situations worse.’ Yasmin answered ‘No-No, all is good and I will be over tomorrow morning if that is fine by you.’ ‘Sure dear, see you soon. I work in a few minutes. You know I work nights do you?’ ‘No!’ exclaimed Yasm, ‘I did not know that.’ ‘Yes but if you have a day job we see each other in evenings. It will work, and we can spend our whole evenings talking fashion and watching the fashion channel on TV.’ ‘Sure, I’ll be there!’ consoled Yasmin and hung up. She was very happy and decided to sleep herself. She wants to be up early refreshed and ready for a change.

Chapter 4 … Three Wealthy Brothers.

Back at Mother Cite’s lot.
… One time at market Queen met Cleo who was there to sell veggies. Cleo thanked her for the tax money and told her she met this guy Ted Handson. Cleo informed ‘You know, the one they call Wandering Ted. He told me the Overlord is his brother.’ She leaned closer to Mother and whispered, ‘I was told not to tell anyone but I had to tell you mom. I would have told my mother back home. A queen should know what is happening from any of her subjects. I know you will not say anything.’ Mother uttered ‘Jolly good! That is very interesting. Is he going to put a stop to these high taxes?’ ‘I’m not sure’ replied Cleo. ‘He did not say as much? He was going to have a chat with Overlord as far as I could tell.’ ‘Well good’ answered mother, ‘anything I guess is a start.’ Cleo informed ‘I must go now and get back for I work in a few hours.’ Queen went on saying, ‘OK dear, are you still in law?’ ‘Yes and I enjoy it. It will help me prepare for the time when I will bring justice here.’ As they were saying their byes Cindy appeared and Cleo was talking of a party. Cleo left Mother and Cindy to think upon this and give her a call later. Cleo did not wish to be late for work.

… In May, Davy and Stew built onto Mother’s hut and put some fencing about. But with all the preparation for this building they have run low on money again. All will work hard this next bit to rebuild the treasury. The guys will soon be off to proclaim another area for the queen’s territory. Mother’s son will return for he is the rightful heir here.
… In next few weeks all kept busy for the height of growing season is upon them. Much watering and harvesting required. Even the new cat is busy catching the mice and having a word with the bunnies, so garden will grow better. Outside of the garden the people of area would walk by on main path and sometimes they would talk of what was happening in area. Queen’s birds went outside in the sun sometimes and then, listen to them squawk!
… One time after cleaning up near main path of Central Way and Ashley, the two guys stood out front by a young tree, for shelter from the sun. They had a long chat and were much happier, for had just got better jobs. They talked of peace and many facets of life. Stew is saying, ‘Now we can build that castle for our Queen. Will you help me find good wood on next trip to Market Lane?’ ‘Great!’ uttered Davy. Then Mother commented something about going to market when we get home tonight. ‘Yes’ answered Stew, ‘we will ask. We can also get better clothing to look the part of royalty.’ ‘So plush’ exclaimed Davy, ‘I would like that. Nights will get cooler soon and these shorts will be very cold in winter months.’ Stew agreed ‘Yes, that’s a pity. Its too bad summer can’t be forever. We will have to buy a dresser of clothing so we can wear what we wish.’

… Mid June, as on many lots, Overlord went by and doubled their taxes in mail. He also decided to take their pet off gadget, for he needs one at his mansion. These are High-pitched Solar-operated Critter Deterrents or HpsocD – Type 3. When our group got home from work later this day, Stew saw other cats eating their cat food. He uttered to Mother, ‘Pish posh, Why now after all these weeks do we have pet problems?’ Mother replied, ‘Maybe the pet off machine wore out? We need to take a trip to market soon for crops will be ready.’ ‘Yes’ agreed Stew, ‘I will go back and check them out.’ Queen commented ‘Yes, let’s plant more now and go to market with the produce we gather.’ ‘Sure, I will call Davy as well.’ Well they scurried about and went to Joe’s Market an hour later. There, Cindy Cite was able to talk to Mother and told her of the extra taxes. Mother replied ‘Yes we got the same. Double our tax bill this month. But we have to pay it if we wish to stay dear. Probably all got extra taxed. Maybe the owner is in a bind, but we will manage.’ ‘Yes’ agreed Cindy. ‘I’m doing well.’ ‘That is good dear for we are in a bind ourselves but we will manage.’ Cindy uttered ‘Drats! ‘Well … here, I will give you 250 of what you gave me a while ago.’ ‘Oh thank you!’ replied Mother, She waved money saying ‘Hip-hip hurray!’
… Two weeks later, Davy answered phone and received 2 thousand for his heroic efforts in their tiny town. Sh…! The Overlord need not know. Davy asked that it not be publicized anywhere. He talked to the announcer of their beginnings here in brief and announcer agreed he would not publicize Davy’s winnings. Davy got off phone and went right to Stew.

… Next day doctor came to door and Mother answered. They talked of the winnings received yesterday. The doc replied ‘Good, for I have come to order one of you on vacation.’ Queen exclaimed ‘Well Jolly Good, we could all do with a vacation and we have enough money.’ Doc informed ‘You people have been through rough times and its my job to see that the people of this valley do not get ill. I give vacations free of charge to one person of household. You will be reimbursed for 500 dollars with this check I give you.’ ‘Well that’s Tops! Thank you very much!’ exclaimed Mother quite loudly. With the commotion the other two came on scene and told the doctor to stay for eats as they talked of a party. Prince uttered ‘Tally ho! I will now prepare a meal for all.’ Queen smiled and went on talking to Doc. in his pale green jacket.
… Well, this was quite a scene in this late June. The dishwasher broke down and water was all over the grass in their unfinished kitchen. Not only that, they had the party upon them. There is no table to eat at, so all the ‘partiers’ stood about eating in the soggy grass. They had taken TV out into yard to make more room for the party but by the sounds of things they should be out in dry grass. They had a marvelous time with eats and jokes. The doc was impressed with their positive energy but could see they were all ready to drop. When he caught wind that Mother was a queen of her original homeland, he made up his mind to give them enough for 2 vacations. Then when doc Brad heard from Davy that Mother was working for queen-ship here, Doc knew he had done right. This is normally not aloud, but he was quite taken by them. He also saw that this money, might be a way out of their dilemma at this point. For government lot where doc came from, knows well what is going on. They have direct meetings with Overlord and Wife in person.
… They all ate till stuffed and doc left very happy. ‘Please, go on vacation as soon as you can.’ ‘Good!’ replied Mother ‘and thanks again. Bye.’ As Doc walked out their front gate he turned back and called, ‘All the best to all involved here.’ Then he went his way.
… They phoned for a traveling van so all could fit in and they left early next morning after phoning work. What fun was had in the snowy slopes. They all took turns sliding down the icy rides by day and snuggled into their warm bungalow in evenings. but as days went on Stew got a problem. Resorts are not kept well in these areas, for the towns about are not advanced. Only for special occasions do the resorts bring in the best. In time they also realized the cat had no food or a placed to sleep. They had to cut their vacation short, but our people still had a much-needed break.

… In a week our gang arrived back from vacation but Stew had caught something and is not well. Also when they got home they found a bill for 500 bucks. Davy was able to pay it while Mother cleaned up front path of all the papers. Stew had no stamina and was so tired he went right to bed. This next day, both Stew and Davy have running disease. This is a metabolism problem and very concerning, for it usually means death from over exhaustion. What will happen? Queen insisted they not go to work so only Mother works today. Maybe it was too cold for them in the mountains. After all, it is later summer here and very warm at times. Was it the shock of climate change?
…Back at home Mother answered phone and got a bonus for finding a computer bug at work. Even though she has been on holiday they still honored her, for she is a good worker. She was able to tell them that Stew was not well. She commented, ‘He picked up something while on vacation. He might take another day off. Boss answered ‘Sure, in case he is contagious! The last thing we wish is to have our workers become ill. With only 8 people work here, we have little room for mistakes.’
…Next day Davy has stopped running so has overcome his ailment, but Stew our Prince, still runs and has hives. I hope he lives. Well even if he does, he cannot be Prince when he scratches self, all the time. How embarrassing! Later Doc Brad came by and diagnosed that Stew has crabs from resort place. They will not go there again till city is running well. Maybe then the resort will have to keep cleaner.
… Mother phoned the two ladies of her group. She told them of Prince Stew and his illness. They wished him well and told her to get her sleep. After hanging up, Mother talked to Davy who was near, saying, ‘This is a chill, but we have to go to work today or we may lose our jobs.’ Davy explained with a frown, ‘Yes things have been topsy-turvy lately, and we must keep our jobs, but what about Stew, is he OK?’ Mother answered ‘Yes, tomorrow he should show for work, that should be fine. But we also have harvest that must go to market. Let’s try to do that today.’ ‘Yes, but Stew shouldn’t help’ uttered Davy. ‘He needs his rest.’

… In late July Tommy Guard came to their door but nobody heard. He is probably asking about big tax bill Government lot has heard of.
Well as guard was leaving, Davy finished in garden at back and was able to catch up to him. They talked of peace and the vacation they just had and that they paid bill without a problem. Davy asked ‘If there is anything we can do, please let us know.’ ‘OK I will get back to you thanks, and Guard Tommy went on his way.
… Nearing August, Davy and Mother talked to Cleo at market, reassuring her Stew was better. Cleo talked of the big tax bill she tried to pay but did not have enough. Mother said ‘Here I will give you the money and here is some for Cindy. We have to work together.’ ‘Oh thank you’ Mother. ‘I know Cindy will appreciate this as well.’ As Stew wandered towards the ladies, Davy wandered off to see produce. Cleo stated ‘And Stew you take care of yourself.’ She caught sight of Davy and asked ‘Please, take care of these two for me, OK? You always have to keep going.’ Stew agreed , ‘Yes and how about you. No guy yet?’ ‘Oh no! I’m not looking, although I could do with help on my clearing. Fall is upon us and I do not know what I’m going to do for food!’ Queen interrupted saying ‘Both you and Cindy must have a proper fridge to keep food good. Your jobs will give you the money to buy and store food from Joe’s Market.’ ‘Yes but it gets cold in that little house.’ Mother informed, ‘Make a small fire in a mettle bucket to sit by, it helps.’ ‘Yes I will and thanks. I must go now, my cat will be missing me. Bye.’
… In August they were all well and all went to work. They have over 2 thousand and will work on house inside for winter months. But also in this week Overlord’s wife went by. She thought, these people have a large home but no walk to main path yet and now they have to have a potty inside. I will put notice here at front walk. I hope they get these things done before I come back in 4 days, or extra taxes will come.

Chapter 5 … Three Wealthy Brothers.

Loner Elizabeth.
… So prior in story, Elizabeth met Wandering Ted at her home on main path of Farmers Walk. He was surprised for had thought she was on another lot? Elizabeth replied, ‘Oh, I moved to a bigger place than Saraya moved with me.’ Ted asked, ‘Did you paid the 500-tax bill?’ Elizabeth commented ‘Yes I believe Saraya was the one who paid it. Did you?’ ‘No’ answered Ted. ‘I stay hidden in the woods on my lot.’ ‘Cool’ chimed Elizabeth, ‘you are lucky.’ ‘Well’ uttered Ted, I’ do not know about luck, Overlord is my brother you know?’ ‘I did not know that!’ replied Elizabeth, ‘Would you do something to stop all these taxes.’ ‘Why?’ asked Ted. ‘Are you out of money?’ ‘No’ replied Elizabeth, ‘but it is not fair to all here. It’s not the money for me for I have a good paying job but others are in trouble.’ ‘Yes’ agreed Ted. ‘I know. I have been trying to talk to Overlord but I feel he is ignoring me. I think he sent someone to assassinate me but I gave the assassin a run for his money. At my place on Wild Cat Trail I have hidden tunnels I escape into.’ ‘Oh sounds exciting,’ uttered Elizabeth. ‘Where a bout’s do you live?’ Ted explained, ‘Do you know the cliffs to the NW of this valley?’ ‘Oh I believe so.’ answered Elizabeth. ‘Are they the ones that light up later, on sunny days?’ ‘Yes’ answered Ted, ‘they have a lot of fools gold in the sand there.’ ‘Well blow me down!’ exclaimed Elizabeth, ‘So that’s the secret. I guess it’s not worth much Hey?’ ‘No’ replied Ted, ‘but if you travel to SW from mountain base, the first inhabited clearing is mine. Ted went on with, ‘When messengers of Overlord come from east-side of river it’s a long way. This may be why I do not have much trouble where I am, for after several days travel they do not wish to put up much of a fight. But Please dear, do not tell many of our situations. It is better for me if people do not know what is happening. Being a sneak often gets better results.’ ‘Roger that.’ uttered Elizabeth. ‘I must go in now and thanks for the info. Bye.’ ‘Yes’ uttered Ted, ‘but one more thing. Are you OK here by yourself?’ ‘Oh yes, my sister just left but all is good. I am looking for another to stay with me. If you come across one who is at loose ends, please send them my way.’ ‘Definitely, a lady needs the attendance of another. I will see what I can do, thanks.’
… On another day, Elizabeth just got home from a hard day’s work and saw a notice in tall grass at side of Farmers Walk. She does not wish to look at, what may be bad news, so she went and watered her daffodils. She will look into it later. She is not concerned neither for she got another big bonus at work today.
… Later after taking a stroll on this early Aug. day, Elizabeth made herself go to main path again. She read the note, and all are to put a proper potty in dwelling and rid of the outhouse. Elizabeth spoke loudly, ‘Oh… is that all!’ She thought, OK I will take a trip to Market Lane tomorrow. I can buy seeds as well when there.
So a day or two later Elizabeth had a handy man come and fix bathroom up, and the shower will be put in tomorrow.

Elijah Alone.
… Now into August, Elijah the Eldest son of Rikki resides here still at First Place. His sister Yasmin has just left to go with Cindy Cite and Elijah is wishing a change in his life. He is not sure what or where this change will be but the yard is still rather empty and the house needs paint and accessories. It is a livable mansion, compared to most.
… Next day Claire Cappella came over with her nurse. There were rumors that Elijah was alone and not great in health. I think Yasmin chatted with Claire, for Yasmin was concerned to leave Elijah alone. Claire asked Elijah, ‘Have you heard of the meeting to Overlords?’ ‘No.’ answered Elijah, ‘When is this going to be?’ ‘Oh I’m not sure but within this week sometime. Wandering Ted gathered some people to go with him.’ Elijah questioned ‘I don’t remember this?’ ‘Well that is odd.’ uttered Claire. She glanced about and stated ‘I see you are keeping up with Overlord’s orders of your walk to main path. Do you have an indoor potty too?’ ‘Ah-ha,’ uttered Elijah. ‘We got the note for that too.’ Claire asked ‘Have you been able to pay the large tax bills?’ ‘Sure with difficulty, thanks.’ ‘Do you need money, Elijah?’ ‘Well?’
… Elijah seemed preoccupied so Claire exclaimed ‘That is a beautiful cottage, well done. But I will give you 500 for a special occasion. I have it here with nurse Terrance.’ She called nurse over and asked for the box. Elijah replied ‘Sure I am fine here, I will manage.’ Claire announced, ‘Well I have given some to others and you did not even get a vacation yet. A vacation is granted you, so I will give you vacation pay.’ When Claire opened the box and Elijah saw all the money she had, he was silent. She gave him 500 dollars and there was lots left in the box, which was given back to nurse for safe keeping. Elijah smiled saying ‘Thank you much. I am short but could finish painting my home here.’ ‘Good for you,’ uttered Claire, ‘I heard they may call on you, when they do overthrow Overlord. Ted is at the root of this operation for it turns out he is Overlord’s brother.’ ‘Oh really, I did not hear any of this?’ replied Elijah. ‘I have not been myself for a while. I guess I missed out on what was happening. Yasmin took off on me now, so I have to keep informed I guess.’ ‘Yes its time to pull up your socks.’ quipped Claire, ‘Call me if you have any troubles. We are here to help you people. That is our job, OK?’ ‘Sure’ replied Elijah, ‘and thanks for coming. I will return to my garden now.’
… When Elijah went to Joe’s Market that day on Market Lane, he was impressed with the advancement there. He had not been to market for a while and Elijah’s heart was lightened. The shack had doubled in size with the Relaxation Hut still in-tacked. Outside the garden had gotten 4 times the size and there were many flowering bushes and more fruit trees too. He thought, Maybe there would be a town here! Except for those tax bills we are doing OK. While Elijah was selling his veggies that only got him 56 bucks, he caught sight of this fair lady with beautiful red hair, that shown in the sunlight. He became very light-hearted and had joy within. He thought, Who is this? He hurried to catch up with her, after thanking farmer Joe for taking his produce. He felt compelled to talk to this lady.
… As he was enthralled with this gal standing in front of him, he did not notice Ted Handson walking by them. Ted saw him and was unsure who he was, but saw he was busy so Ted went on by. He has enough people to make that trip to snoop about Overlord’s in a couple of days, so in his mind all was well.
… After a minute of silence Elijah introduced himself to Julie and asked, ‘What are you into?’ She talked of money and helping this town but is not sure how. She questioned, ‘Our group is not in the contest, are you?’ ‘Sure!’ answered Elijah, ‘But how come you are not?’ ‘Well’ uttered Julie. ‘We came too late but they let us stay. We are to help others when we can, but not interfere with the buying of land.’ Elijah announced, ‘Well you can stay with me. I have a piece of land on First Place that I live on by myself.’ ‘Oh don’t you have somebody to help?’ asked Julie. ‘No, my sister left my lot for another, a week or so ago. There is lots of land to farm where I am.’ ‘Oh’ uttered Julie. ‘I can keep your home and work in garden for you? I love that sort of thing.’ ‘Yes’ answered Elijah, ‘Your outfit reminds me of Holland, are you from there?’ ‘Yes’ answered Julie, ‘I am part Dutch. I was brought up in working the land and it is the only life for me. At this time on my lot, we do not do much gardening for several have jobs. We have a small patch but I do not get to do much for all go out when garden needs care. I’d love an acre of land to work with!’
… As Elijah was listening he had a happy heart. He loved this ladies pleasant soft vibe and her fine features. But that hair is like a fairy’s. Elijah could feel that she would help him with joy in her heart. After she stopped talking he instructed, ‘You come over any time. Why don’t you come with me now and you can take a bus from my place to where you live.’ Elijah stopped to ask, ‘But where do you live?’ Julie replied ‘Yes, well I live on City side of river, beside government lot there.’ ‘Wow’ uttered Elijah. ‘I have never been there. Are there many clearings in that area?’ ‘Yes but Overlord lives there too. It is not the best place, but we are in the center of the action as it were.’ Elijah chuckled saying ‘Yes as it were! I will be more at home when some real building goes up. Overlord is supposed to build the city up but does nothing. Its like he does not wish us to make this a town, do you understand? ‘Yes, for it is government that should build hospitals, office buildings and government buildings, but Claire has a nice home there just the same.
… Elijah questioned ‘Claire?’ Julie replied ‘The Queen who runs our town! I feel the government should be in middle of town though, not off to one side. And travel is difficult. Someone needs to come and organize things. Not the one who is draining us regularly with these huge tax bills. Something is not ‘cricket’ there.’ Elijah exclaimed ‘Yes, Oh boy do I agree! You come with me now and see where I live, then if you wish, stay with me. ‘Good’ agreed Julie, ‘and I can get a bit of money from my group too. So let’s go Sir.’
… Elijah smiled at the fact that he may have this beautiful lady living with him. But then he thought; I do not have a sleeper for her. We will have to shop right away. He announced ‘Yes when you come we have to buy you stuff. You can use my sleeper if things do not turn out right, OK?’ Julie replied, ‘With the money I bring from home I will order a sleeper. Just be sure to give me your address. But first let me think on this and see where I will be helping you!’ ‘Sure’ agreed Elijah. ‘Come I’ll phone bus’.

Chapter 6 … Three Wealthy Brothers.

Monish and Isaiah Najjar.
… Mona and Isaiah, are Son and Daughter of Rikki Chaudhry. Lady Monish is more business like and younger brother Isaiah may farm the land for food. For the game of area they are claiming this lot with 3 trees, at the cross trails of First Place and Ashley Path.
… After their journey, as they rested in the grasses they thought of the garden patch. As in most lots their unmistakable garden patch had been gardened in a previous year, but by who? They puzzled this for a bit then went straight for the area to view possibilities. In this June day, Mona stands beside a small tree near garden area talking to Isaiah. She says, ‘I will be looking for work as in office jobs and you get a good job too. We can take turns planting for food. We may need to get a cat later if rodents plague our garden patch but now we need a phone.’ Isaiah questioned, ‘I do not know where to go for that? Maybe market would know?’
… A bit later as papergirl delivered paper Mona saw two people. It was the nurse and doctor of government lot. Good people just checking on progress and health. The paper offered nothing but dog walking so they took it. That night Isaiah got promoted and now works in mornings but Mona wishes business. Maybe she will find something in tomorrow’s paper.

… A storm came over later one evening and they have no shelter. They phoned market and Farmer Joe told them to come bunk in the Market Relaxation Hut. While there he offered to help them build but Mona uttered, ‘No we will be fine. Just help us tonight Thanks.’ These two are very progressive and have resold several items to gain a proper fridge, and places to sleep. Now they do not need to plant seeds for their jobs will feed them. Monish has a journalist job now, which is just her speed and Isaiah did well in dog caretaker so continues to do so.
… On this day they found the big tax bill, not in box but on ground in the grass. Mona queried, ‘I wonder how long it has been there?’ Isaiah opened it and bill was only 150 dollars. Mona said, ‘I heard others got taxed from 250-500.’ Isaiah replied ‘I guess the Overlord took pity upon us?’ Well, that is all they could afford but Overlord does not know how much money any of these people actually have, Does he?

… As time went by, Suddenly Mona is a busy body. She had twice as much food as Isaiah, then went to put important papers into trash. She needs to keep busy, this one. But this next week was more troubles, for a guard of Overlord was snooping about. With water far away, dishes are all over their lot and they will be fined in next week or so. That’s too bad, especially since they will not have enough for 3-4 weeks at the wages they get. That’s life, sometimes not fair.
… Now Mona spoke to this guard, then went to Isaiah telling him, ‘Someone came and warned me of the fines we could get if our land is messy.’ Isaiah asked ‘Why did you not tell me this?’ He thought for a minute then instructed, ‘What we do is move furniture to hide dishes. What they do not see will not fine us.’ ‘Good idea’ agreed Mona, as she replied, ‘It would also help if you got a better job you know.’ ‘Yes but I have tried.’ ‘OK, well keep trying!’ commanded Mona. ‘We need a dishwasher and maybe we should also get some seeds. We could get more money from crops.’ ‘Yes’ uttered Isaiah. ‘I could take care of crops. You help me plant and harvest and I will take care of the rest.’ ‘OK’ uttered Mona, ‘But only if I have time.’ ‘Sure,’ agreed Isaiah, ‘we will work together as a team and get a shelter build before fall. That is not far away you know?’ Mona exclaimed ‘Yes and maybe by then I will have my own lot.’ Isaiah looked at her seriously. He does not wish to be alone on a lot. He thought, How could she be thinking like that? What is she going to do with an empty lot? This got him going. I should start to think of myself. I need to make more money and get skills to do so. I will try to study more.
… So later they took a trip to Market Lane to see what they could find, and at market while Mona was buying seeds, Isaiah met this beautiful lady by name of Milly. She has blond-yellow hair and wore a beautiful gowned. With the sent of rose bushes near, and Milly talking of computers, Isaiah fell in love. You never know what your life is going to do from one day to the next. Isaiah needs one to follow and I feel he has found her.
… As Mona went into Relaxation Hut at market she saw Isaiah talking to this lady. She thought, wouldn’t you know he’d talk to the first beautiful lady that came along? Well that’s a man for yeah, first bed they find to jump into. So Mona went to watch TV and tried to ignore what she saw. It was a nice break, for they do not have TV at home. She thought, we need to get TV as soon as we can. At least I will have something to do besides staring off into space and hearing the crickets chatter.
… Just as she sat down a stranger came into room. She greeted with a ‘Hi’ and they were off on their own conversation. Now Isaiah could say the same thing about her, but he wouldn’t. He is not like that. Mona can be a pessimist at times and she is very picky too. This stranger Bean and Mona did talk of love and relationships but Mona felt this fellow was not her type. Oh well, there are very few people here and it may be that she will be on a lot by herself. But as Mona talked to Bean she saw Sharon, who is her Uncles Joey’s wife. They did not know each other well so only said Hi, before they left.

… Sometime in July when our two got home from Joe’s Market, they did bring home a TV. Mona had talked Isaiah into it but it was not hard, for Isaiah was in heaven. Besides, now they could afford it with Mona’s new job. So here we see the two of them watching TV and chatting about their profitable trip. Isaiah told Mona he would start to plant tomorrow for sure. She replied ‘Yes and I can help a bit after work.’ Isaiah did not say too much about seeing Milly the other week and he was able to build some on the shelter.
… Early July of story when Isaiah got home he saw Mona talking to another of area. They do not know this guy is a Prince, but it is Stew from Queen Mother Cite’s lot. Just the same Mona was not much interested by him, for she just wants to talk to someone other than the TV. She spends 3-4 hours alone till Isaiah gets home from work. For a busy body that is too long. She is a social butterfly, but did do a bit of planting in garden before Isaiah got home. Problem is, Isaiah wishes to phone Milly in a bit and maybe ask her over, but he is not sure how Mona will take this. You do not wish Mona on her bad side. Isaiah will wait till Mona finishes her conversation with Stew.
… Well when Mona finished speaking with Stew and then saw mail lady. She walked towards her saying ‘I thought we already got the taxes for this month.’ ‘Yes’ commented mail lady, ‘but this is an extra tax which some people get regularly.’ Mona asked ‘Why is that?’ Mail lady informed, ‘Well if you keep a messy yard or forget to pay last bill or cause a disturbance of any kind, or not complete a task ordered by Overlord, he fines you. Yes, and by the way!’ continued Mail lady. ‘The order for an indoor Potty will be coming in a week or so.’ Mona went on with, ‘How do you know this info?’ Mail lady explained, ‘I visit Overlord’s regularly for he is keeping me under tabs. I have to deliver these notices to you people and he wants me to tell him in person that the notices were delivered. I would not do this to people normally but it is a good paying job.’ Mona replied, ‘Well there is not many good jobs so you are lucky.’ ‘Yes’ agreed Mail lady, ‘but if you get smarts, the better jobs are there.’ Mona answered, ‘I haven’t time to study. We can barely keep up with our day to day stuff here and we have no shelter yet, so we are desperate for more cash. If Overlord keeps taxing us you can tell him we will simply leave, contest or no contest.’ Mail lady looked at Mona and queried, ‘Now you really do not wish me to tell Overlord that, do you?’ Mona replied ‘Well if you wish, I do not care. I am not afraid of a simpleton who has many guards and cops surrounding him. He must be a wimp to feel he has to have such protection.’ ‘Ha-Ha’ expressed Mail lady, ‘I did not see it that way before. I’ll have to remember that, the next time I feel threatened by him. Thanks for the tip.’ The mail lady smiled and went her way. Then Mona got mail and paid bill right off.

… Much later, Isaiah phoned Milly and she was very eager to come over. He gave her directions to First Place and Ashley Path and Milly exclaimed, ‘I’ll be right over.’ It sounds as if Isaiah has found a girl. Isaiah was so keen on seeing Milly that he went out to main path and waited for her to come. I feel that he is not happy here with Mona’s attitudes. She needs a strong fellow to put the reins on her. At least she is making food for a late dinner. A bit later Isaiah saw Milly coming and hurried to other end of lot to greeting her. He exclaimed ‘I’m so glad you came. I missed you. I’m sorry, that sounds strange for we only met once. My sister is making eats, come let me show you around. I’m sure glad you came.’ Milly just smiled and felt flattered someone wished to see her so much.
… Then Milly commented, ‘You have been on my mind too. My lot is filled with people and it gets very noisy there sometimes. I am happy just to leave for a while. I brought a few bars here?’ ‘Oh thank you, did you make them yourself?’ ‘Yes, actually I did. Something my mom and I used to make many times back home.’ Isaiah said, ‘They look good and smell like rum.’ ‘Yes’ agreed Milly, ‘they are called honey-rum almond squares. There is only a few, is that OK?’ ‘Oh sure!’ exclaimed Isaiah. ‘I only live with my sister now. It’s nice to have company.’
… Then he led Milly to their area of living. He apologized for no shelter saying, ‘We have not been here long, but we are trying to get a shelter up before the cool weather comes.’ ‘Of course,’ agreed Milly, ‘that’s in a few weeks time. Are you low on money?’ ‘Well yes, isn’t that the reason for most things here,’ answered Isaiah. Milly chuckled. ‘Here, I can give you some money for a basic shelter. I would not wish you to be in the cold. You can come over to our place if you ever find yourself in that state? Do not be afraid to ask.’ ‘Bless you’ uttered Isaiah, as he smiled at her looking into her eyes. He feels very secure with this person. Much different from how he feels with his sister, like night and day.
… As night went by he thought much when Milly was there. He almost asked her if he could stay with her from that point on, but then he felt guilty. After all, Mona is his sister and she would be here all alone. He could not do that. His mind is going a mile per minute with Milly though. He does not want this one to slip away.
… They went to eat but Milly stayed far from Isaiah and his sister. Mona announced, ‘I have seen you at market. Is that your real hair?’ Isaiah said loudly ‘Sis, do not ask her that. That is rude!’ Mona replied, ‘Well it is beautiful to me. I’m just asking!’ Milly explained, ‘Yes I was born with white hair and slowly it turned yellowish. It even had some brown mixed in for a time. Doctors tell me that I’m very close to being an albino.’ Isaiah spoke up saying, ‘Do not do anything to your hair. I like it just the way it is.’ He looked at Mona sternly and she uttered a noise, then went about cleaning up dishes.
… Later they all had a bit to eat and Isaiah went to watch TV and asked Milly to sit by him. That is all fine, but then Mona came along and turned TV off, and went around corner. You can see Isaiah’s frustration but Milly ignored it and carried on talking about wanting a large home to live in. She is saying, ‘We have had enough hardships here. Its time for some luxury don’t you think?’ Isaiah explained, ‘Well just to get away from my sister would be a luxury. Sometime I cannot take her attitudes.’ ‘Yes’ smiled Milly. ‘She was kind of rude. Just turn it back on!’ ‘In frustration Isaiah uttered, ‘Yeah.’ and he did. So Isaiah and Milly watched TV for a while longer then talked of their future. But it is late and Milly had to go home, for her household would worry about her. She said, ‘I will see you very soon. Call me, or maybe it would be better if I called you?’ ‘Yeah’ agreed Isaiah, ‘if you wish. Thanks for coming and forgive my sister, she gets moody.’ ‘OK’ smiled Milly, as she wandered home.
… As the weeks went by they were able to get a sink and get some dishes washed. Isaiah was also able to add to their shelter, before calling Milly again. Milly announced ‘The next time I will call and invite you over to meet my mob.’ Through this time Isaiah was demoted at work. He is really feeling at loose ends. He does not know what to do about Mona. He thought of telling Mother Rikki but he does not want to put that burden on her. Rikki is in her elder years now, but he may phone and see what Mother says anyway. Isaiah worked on shelter more to pass time.
… In this late morning Isaiah is still sleeping for spends much time at night in concern of situation. Later after Mona washed all the dishes. Isaiah woke and made dinner for himself. He is really put out with her. She got mad and told him off. He told her off about TV. He announced, ‘I am going to leave this place.’ She uttered, ‘Go ahead I do not need you here. You are only in my way.’ Isaiah just went away. He can’t figure out what has gotten into her. She is much worse than ever before. Then he thought, maybe she is jealous of me having a girlfriend? I should discuss this with Milly, when I go there.
… Isaiah was wandering their lot and saw Mona was sleeping. He wanted to go to Milly’s but did not know whether to phone or just go. He was very confused. He sat for a minute and thought. Then he heard phone ringing. It was Milly saying, ‘Come on over to my lot at Gun Shot Trail. (We have a pair.)

The Floozy.
… Milly met Isaiah at her home and they talked about staying together but where would they stay? Milly has a house full of people and wishes to get away. She announced, ‘I would love to come stay with you but I do not know if your sister would accept that?’ ‘Yeah I know what you mean’ answered Isaiah, ‘We just had a big fight. I do not know what to do.’ Milly had a thought,.. ‘Well maybe we can go tomorrow and take Bean Para, one of my group. Make it like a double date. Is she looking for a guy?’ ‘Well she used to talk about that but now I think she is also put out with this place.’ replied Isaiah. Milly stated ‘Well we will go tomorrow. You stay here the night and make your self at home. Please feel free to eat and sleep anytime.’
… They phoned Bean and talked of situation and he agreed to help out. Later next day they went back, hesitating before entering Mona’s lot. Mona will be there and who knows what mood she is in? Earlier Mona got in such a bad mood that she lost her job. She knows something is not right and is trying to get out of herself by reading a comical story. Then she heard someone coming. She saw Isaiah right away and asked strongly. ‘Where were you last night? I was fearful the wild animals ate you. Where did you sleep? You better tell me for I will find out sooner or later.’ Isaiah stood sideways with head facing Mona. He stated, ‘You are not my mother. I do not have to be at your beckon call.’ Then Mona heard someone else, and she was shocked. This was the lady Isaiah was talking to at market a few weeks ago. She called, ‘So you brought your floozy home with you hey?’ Isaiah was upset. He hollered, ‘She is my fiancée and I will leave this place right now if you treat her wrongly.’ Milly marched right up to her saying ‘Yes, Now you take that floozy back. I’m nobody’s floozy. I love Isaiah much and am very happy to make him happy. What is your problem? Its no wonder he didn’t want to come home last night.’ With that Mona broke down and cried. Milly commented, ‘Dear I did not mean to make you cry, but you have a problem.’ With that Isaiah left area.
… As Mona was sobbing she got out that she missed home but can’t go back. ‘My mother is dating a friend of my father’s and I would interfere if I went home. There is nothing here for me. I’ve been taking it out on my brother, I know.’ She looked into Milly’s eyes and pleaded, ‘But do not tell Isaiah this, please.’ She went on with, ‘Last night when I thought I was alone, I got very depressed. I do need help but I’m not sure where to go?’ Milly put her hand on Mona’s shoulder and announced, ‘We brought another person with us in hopes that he may cheer you up. Your brother has been very worried about you. Please talk with this person.’ Mona exclaimed, wiping her eyes. ‘Oh No, I look a mess I know. Is he here now?’
… Bean was standing near them and could hear what was going on. He is a kind-hearted fellow and remembers speaking to this lady before. What is her problem he thought? I guess she is just lonely and without a friend? Milly glanced his way and he walked slowly towards them. Mona saw Bean and turned away. Milly asked, ‘Please talk to this fellow.’ Mona was embraced and said quietly, ‘No, I do not wish too. I met him before.’
Milly looked at Bean and winked leaving scene. .. Mona sighed and wiped her face again. She did not look at Bean as he commented, ‘I would not force you to like me. I just was asked by your brother to help out. He is very concerned for you. I do remember you, for we talked before.’ Mona still not looking at him had gone and turned TV on. She answered, ‘Yes I remember we talked at market.’
… The next hour was very rocky for Bean. The two are standing to one side now, as they would almost fight then patch things up several times. What buttons does Bean push to get the sweet lady’s approach? He is trying.
… Coming from garden, Isaiah saw Bean and Mona had stopped talking. They are just standing there staring at each other? Milly stated, ‘We have crops for market.’ Mona agreed to go but Bean was not sure. Isaiah asked, ‘Bean will you accompany us to market.’ Bean uttered, ‘Yeah sure.’ Before they left Bean was confused. Every time he saw Mona she was just looking at him. What was she thinking? He feels she is a nice person but the surface has problems. Mother never told me about this type of person.
… Milly saw Mona staring at Bean as he walked by. She went to Mona and asked, ‘Is he treating you good?’ Mona questioned, ‘Yes but I do not know. He is a strong person, which I like but I don’t think he likes me looking at him.’ Milly commented ‘Well dear, be nice to him. I’m the one who corralled him to come. If you like, I can ask him to go?’ ‘No that is OK.’ stated Mona. ‘I will tell him to go if he wishes.’

… I guess the bus ride to market did nothing, for there is Mona walking away from Bean without hesitation. Milly was standing behind Bean and ended up saying, ‘Do not worry. If you wish to leave you can take the next bus.’ Bean turned and explained, ‘Well she does have feelings for me, but at times they are hate? Do you know anything about her childhood?’ Milly questioned, ‘Not much but ask Isaiah her brother. I think their dad left them, at an early age. That would have been pretty severe for a mother and her 4 Kids. Would that have something to do with it?’ Bean answered ‘Well yes, It may be when she looks at a man, she fears of being alone.’ Bean went on with, ‘OK thanks Milly, now I know where I am heading.’
… As it turned out, when they got off bus Mona was just hurrying to keep up with brother Isaiah. She wanted to talk about Bean. She asked what his past was. Isaiah questioned, ‘I have no idea? You will have to talk to Milly about that. But he seems to be one that would care for you. He is very strong on what is right and wrong.’ Mona stated ‘Yeah but maybe he feels that he should be independent and not be with anyone. What does that kind of person do under stress? He could be very independent and leave in an instant?’ Isaiah agreed, ‘Yes I see your point. But dear, if he loves you and you were kind to him, why would he leave you?’ Mona slowed down and thought about that for a moment. Bean was watching her and wondered what Isaiah had said to make her slow and turn away. And the game goes on.
… Bean headed for the Wishing Well for help, while Isaiah was on his way to sell veggies. As they passed, Isaiah stated ‘You are winning!’ Bean turned saying, ‘Really?’ Isaiah just smiled and went to sell his veggies. Well, Bean was happy and wished even more, to help. He realized that he was having good feelings towards Mona. He himself has been a very independent person but this wilderness has caught him in the need for an anchor. He feels her strength and knows she is a pretty smart lady.
… Later at market Mona was shocked to see her mother talking to Milly and stopped short. She was uncertain whether to advance towards them or not. Mona recalled telling Milly about being lonely and not being able to go home. She thought, I hope she is not telling mother that! Bean saw Mona stop so went to seed counter. Mona saw Milly a bit upset as leaving Mother. Mona went and asked Mother, ‘What did Milly say to you?’ ‘Oh’ uttered Rikki, ‘She asked me if you had been through any trauma when young. I do not like people digging into my past. I would prefer to forget the past and live for the now.’ Mona informed ‘Yes, but she was speaking for me. Why did you not marry again when daddy left us?’ ‘Oh, well dear I had 4 of you to raise. I had no time for romance. Why?’ Mona answered, ‘Well I have a fellow who seems to be interested in me and I am confused as to what to do. He is tall and handsome with light brown hair.’ Rikki was glancing about and asked, ‘You mean that guy there?’ Mona turned quickly and uttered ‘Oh no, it is him.’ ‘He is always near me. Is that OK?’ ‘Well’ explained Rikki, ‘If you like him let him like you. You need to know each other if you wish to marry or even stay together. You do not have to marry a fellow right away. You can stay with him for a while to make sure he is the one.’ ‘Oh I do not wish to live in sin.’ stated Mona, ‘No dear’ replied Mother, ‘It is shopping only. Just keep your distance and be friends.’ Mona just starred off and thought for a minute. Then Mother Rikki commanded, ‘He is looking this way, go there and see what he wishes. I will wait here for you.’

… With hesitation Mona went to Bean and asked, ‘Why are you looking at me?’ Bean took it wrong and was a bit upset. He questioned ‘You mean I can’t look at you now?’ Mona apologized ‘No, I’m sorry, Mom just saw you looking at us, and told me to go speak to you.’ Bean urged, ‘That is your mother?’ ‘Yes’ answered Mona, as she turned towards mom. ‘OK’ uttered Bean, ‘I will talk to her.’ ‘Oh’ uttered Mona, ‘That’s OK! You do not have to!’ Bean stated ‘Yes I do!’
… Mona did stop Bean from going to mother by continuing conversation, but then Isaiah saw mother and told her, ‘Mona was asking me about dad and you, and of what happened.’ ‘Yes I was just speaking to her myself. I hear she has a fellow who likes her.’ ‘Yes’ agreed Isaiah; ‘Milly and I are to blame.’ Rikki uttered ‘Milly? I was talking to her but she was a bit nosey. She is your girl?’ ‘Yes!’ replied Isaiah. ‘I told you on phone a few weeks back.’ ‘Yes I know!’ puzzled Mother, ‘I’m not sure what is happening.
… After a moment Mother Rikki uttered, I’m sorry. She asked me about my past and I was abrupt with her. Please give her my apologies.’ ‘Oh sure’ replied Isaiah. ‘You should come over to our place sometime.’ ‘OK’ agreed Rikki, ‘that sounds good.’ Isaiah reassured Mother Rikki, ‘I will take care of Mona, do not worry yourself. How is Shawn?’ ‘Oh, he is well and we are doing good thanks.
… Bean spoke with Mother Rikki and he found she was nice. He stated, ‘I like your daughter and if she will have me I wish to court her, Is that OK?’ Rikki smiled and put her hand on his shoulder, ‘Dear if you can make my daughter happy, you will make my heart happy also. She needs one to care for her. She and all my children have had a confusing life.’ Rikki went on with, ‘When they were young my husband left me mainly because he was not getting enough attention from me. I’m only one person but he did not see that. He felt I was his wife and should cater to him, not his children. Well we had many fights and then he left. Later he became very ill and stayed with relatives. But through that whole time the kids were at an impressionable age and each takes experiences into their own thoughts. Mona is a bit confused right now so give her time.’ Bean agreed, ‘Yes I understand. I’m sure glad I had a chance to speak to you. Thanks.’ And they went their ways.
… Before Mother Rikki left market she was able to speak to son Isaiah again. She told him all is good and Bean has her blessings. Isaiah walked her to her bus then phone for another bus, to go in opposite direction. Mona met with Bean and after talking with mom she has more confidence to go forward. They stood quietly just being in the others vibe. This is a good sign. Then when their bus came, the two walked together to the bus. At home Isaiah was able to add more wall on shelter with Beans help. They have part shelter now.

Julie Staying With Elijah.
… In this Mid August of story, Elijah went to meet Julie at front path of First Place and Ashley Path. She has come to farm his land to help out town. He loves her much but she has not mentioned her heart. She is of Para Lot and that group came too late to be in contest, so they are here to help others only.
… Before Elijah could meet Julie the Welcome Wagon came. Someone said there were balloons on this property which usually means a big celebration of a child or a new coming. Well it is Julie who is the new comer here. Elijah met this Welcome Wagon guy and said not to worry, but the guy gave Elijah the parcel of basics just the same. Elijah thought, ‘Well if they wish to give us more stuff I will not object. We can sell what is there and could make some bucks.’
… As Elijah met Julie and passed the first flamingo on his lawn, Julie behind him asked, ‘Did you put these here?’ ‘Ah-ha’ uttered Elijah, ‘I like pretty things about and if you touch them they squawk.’ He turned and smiled saying ‘Its just something funny for those off days, you know.’ From there Elijah took Julie to the small garden patch. She uttered ‘Wow…. When you said small garden, you were not kidding.’ Elijah looked down. Julie replied with ‘Oh not to down you Sir, I am thrilled to help out here. Do you have seeds left?’ ‘No’ answered Elijah, ‘I forgot. We could go get more now?’ ‘I work early tomorrow and have a good job. You do not have to work if you do not wish too. That is up to you.’ Julie stated, ‘Well if it is all the same to you I would like to earn my keep by gardening and taking produce to Market Lane. They phoned for bus and got seeds and a pet cat.
… In this next week, with Elijah going to work, he meets many people of area and has been asked in past to give a hand if needed. When Elijah is working Julie works in garden, and today she has a small harvest. On this day they will make a trip to market but they both know that Elijah will soon get a call from others to take a big trip.
… On another day the phone rang when Elijah got home but he was not able to answer it. I wonder who was calling? He did not think of that long, for his mind went to his bonus money he got for promotion. On top of that he now works at 11 AM.
… Well, Elijah may have missed the phone call the other day, but with his bonus he got ambitious and built the living area double the size. That will be why he was talking about big buildings to Julie the other day. He already has part of bedroom built and will finish that in near future. Then this will be a big home to their area. Maybe they are wishing a family? Is this in Elijah’s mind? Julie is already a stay at home gal, but she is holding her own by bringing in money from crops.
… When Julie came in from her early gardening one day, she was taken adrift and turned on a dime. ‘Wow’ she uttered, ‘You made this place much bigger. I can see, now that the black plastic is taken down. She turned to Elijah and smiled giving him a big kiss. She stated, ‘I just phoned for bus for we have a moderate size harvest to go to farmer Joe.’ ‘Oh sure! You are swift and true.’ answered Elijah as he turned and gave her a hug, ‘I’m ready, but then I must eat something.’ ‘Yes we will’ agreed Julie. ‘OK let’s go!’ And out went Julie with Elijah following, calling the cat to put it indoors.
… In August at market, Julie got 252 for her hard work this month. An OK deal! After Elijah has a nap in Market’s Relaxation Hut they will go back home. We see here Julie thanking farmer Joe, for she as many others, appreciates this meditation hut. For many a time, life will get too busy to take a breath. But when at market, you are drawn to the quiet room while your mind is off your doings at home.
… Julie met Jeff Turko and I do not believe they met before. Neither of them knew much about doings in area, so conversation was of general life. But as our two got home from Joe’s Market Elijah heard phone again, and hurried in. This was a strange call! This stranger told Elijah, ‘We just saw you come home and would like you to come across the way to the home here. Please come over for we wish your help.’ ‘OK?’ said Elijah. He got off phone and spoke to Julie, ‘They want me to go across the Main path and help them? I’m not sure with what? I remember being told that some people would call me to help with Overlord. Should I go dear?’ ‘Well’ answered Julie, ‘I will stay at window here and if you go in without a fight I will know you are fine. Please do not go in unless you are sure about what is happening,’ ‘OK it’s a deal.’ agreed Elijah. ‘I will look back if all is OK.’
…He went down the front walk to their main path of First Place and Ashley, then looked back at Julie saying, ‘I hope to be home in a few minutes, bye.’ …OOPs Tommy guard walked right into Elijah. Julie was out on their walk in an instant, for Tommy wore an armor vest, and with him almost knocking Elijah over, she thought he was a foe. Elijah and Tommy both side stepped suddenly, to avoid a collision and Tommy uttered as grabbing Elijah’s shoulders for balance, ‘Oh, pardon me Sir, your garden caught my sight. I am just checking out area. Is all OK here?’
…Then Tommy heard a sound behind him and turned quickly to see Julie fainting to ground. The two men just stood there watching her fall. The near collision they had, confused them. Then suddenly they came out of it and both ran to Julie’s side. Tommy asked ‘Did I scare her? Do you have enough food here? Is she well?’ Elijah replied, ‘She was OK a minute ago? I just received a call to go help others. Maybe this confused her?’
… Tommy asked, ‘Please, help me to take her in. I will phone Doctor Brad of my lot to take a look at her.’ ‘Sure’ agreed Elijah. They got her back to home and she came too. About 10 minutes later doc Brad came by. He had good news, I think? … ‘She is pregnant.’
… Well, Elijah took a look at Tommy and started teetering where he stood. ‘Oh,’ uttered Tommy as he grabbed him. Then Tommy turned to Brad, and quipped with a smile, ‘I guess pregnancy is catching?’ They sat Elijah down as Julie was saying, ‘Oh No! It’s Ok Elijah!’ Doc Brad got both of them a strong cup of tea before he left. Tommy stayed a bit longer and went home when Elijah decided to go to house across the way. Now he has news for them as well.
… This meeting he went to, turned out to be discussions of a rescue effort. The next day Elijah got a call from his Mother Rikki and many were meeting at her home for even more discussions.

Changes.
… In this Mid August at Queen Mother Cite’s lot, an overlord guard came by the back way. He was to sneak up on them in their own yard. Overlord’s wife must have told Overlord Tram, to check on Cite’s lot and see if they are up to scratch. As it turned out, our people here upgraded 2 days ago. Stew was the one who caught the guard sneaking about their land. He confronted the guard and asked, ‘Why are you spying on us. We have all requirements completed. We do not do what you say, the second we get your rude messages, so why are you here bothering us now?’
… Dan guard answered, ‘It is my job only. If I could, I would do something about Overlord’s frivolous ways, but I work for him and have no other job.’ Davy who was beside Stew, laughed then replied ‘Yeah you are just there to get your paycheck and you do not care what happens to us!’ Guard Dan turned to Davy saying ‘This is not true sir. I do my best, but if you wish, I can make things harder for my boss in little ways. You call me and tell me what to do and I can help you with your plans.’ ‘Sure!’ answered Davy, ‘I bet you say that to all the beautiful people.’ Dan was a bit upset and turned to leave. Davy walked with him and informed Dan, ‘I thought you were kidding!’ Dan stopped and quipped, ‘Just because I work for a jerk, does not mean I am one.’ Davy replied ‘I’m sorry. I know if you help us, you will be rewarded.’ Dan asked with a smile, ‘How can I help?’ Davy went on with, ‘We will be going to Overlord’s soon so you make sure you are working when Overlord is on vacation.’ Guard Dan answered ‘Yes, I am working at that time. What would you wish of me?’ Stew invited all in saying, ‘Come in and meet our Mother and have a chat.’ So they ushered Dan the guard, inside.

… Now in this very early autumn at Central Way the plot thickens. The three men went into home and ate a plate of food while Queen Mother chatted about what they needed to do. The guard was interested and explained, ‘Well if you could give me a job I would gladly help out with your plans. I will not do the double-crossing, for I work for him and cannot cut myself off from my livelihood.’ Stew commented ‘We just wish to go scout the mansion for if and when there is a time we need to gather evidence. Dan agreed ‘Well I can stand guard and call you when I’m the only one there. In case you are interrogated, you need not even speak to me.’ ‘Yes,’ answered Stew, ‘but this is illegal, is it not?’ ‘No,’ the guard went on with, ‘There is an area in mansion where we allow people to wait for the Overlord’s viewing. If I let you into there or simply unlock door, then you can do as wish. Later if interrogated, we will say that I was guarding the mansion and still made my rounds. In that way you did not break and enter, for door was unlocked.’ ‘Yes,’ agreed Queen, ‘if you could do that for my subjects? There will be several people going, but I do not know whom, yet. Another in area has great interest in the outcome and is setting things up.’
… Queen Mother went on with, ‘You see, Overlord is actually not the true owner but part owner. There was a kind of pact made between two people, but Overlord did not follow through. So he is to be subjected to the results. We figure the results will be dictated and accomplished, while Overlord is away, but we are not sure. We were asked to try and help, so you let us know when this is going to transpire and we will send info to the right people.’ ‘Sure’ agreed Dan guard, ‘All I ask is if I get fired, for whatever reason, will you people provide me with a living?’ Stew answered ‘Oh yes, there will be many jobs in future.’ ‘Ok’ agreed Dan, ‘But if you do not come through for me, some info may leak out.’ Queen uttered ‘Do not worry, we have plans.’
… Mother waved bye to guard Dan as Stew watched in anticipation. They were all a bit nervous for anyone could tattle on them. It’s a chance they need to take or they will have to leave this land, and their hardships will be for not. When mother went out into yard, Stew talked to Davy, ‘We are the start of changes. Wandering Ted asked me near beginning to keep my eyes pealed. We have to get a hold of him and see what his plans are. Mother should not be involved with this, for she could get hurt or kidnapped. We also must be on guard or we may find trouble.’ ‘Yes’ agreed Davy, ‘We must work together.’ Just as that conversation was ending, Bean came by their lot and Stew called to him. Davy went out also and talked to Mother. All 4 were talking of the many perils that could befall them when conducting an infiltration as this. But Bean was all for it. Bean informed ‘There are two couples on our clearing at First Place near Ashley Way but our home is far too small. Isaiah and I finished home but we had to compromise space for time. None of us have any privacy at all. One couple is about to move out to another lot, but that is not feasible if we are given the tax bills that others are paying.’ Bean continued with, ‘We are just giving the owner money, so he can take these long vacations.’
… Mother was having her own conversation with Davy when she heard Bean’s comment. She turned saying ‘Yes, I agree with Bean. We should form a posse and get Overlord out. Stew told Mother right then, ‘We will not have you come on a dangerous mission. Davy and I wish you to stay here and go to work, making all believe there is nothing happening. OK Mother?’ ‘Yes I can make yard better and keep up with taxes and demands.’ Stew replied ‘Thank you Mother.’ Mother went on with, ‘I overheard one talk of a demand that is coming, when we were at Joe’s Market the other day. They will be ordering us to fence our lots. But we already have most of that fencing up. Ha! Somebody is not going to get much money from us this time. Ha-ha-ha! Davy uttered ‘Yes, Overlord will probably make demands on all people here, for he wants a large mansion and vacations too.’ Bean put in his comment of ‘Yes, he gets enough from us Now. I will tell my group of our plans. I know Isaiah will help.’ ‘Ok’ agreed Stew, ‘We leave it to you and will phone if something transpires. It will not be for a week or so. We await Overlord’s vacation.’ ‘Sure’ replied Bean and off he went with a smile.

… One early morning of later autumn, Queen is talking of a party over breakfast. Will they have one? This may be the subject because they have more money coming in and can afford to relax a bit. Stew replied, we could add onto this building. It is still pretty crowded here. Mother agreed, ‘Ok that is a good idea. You buy some lumber on your way home today and we will all pitch in for a bigger kitchen. We may even buy a dining table. Davy exclaimed Oh, that would be nice. It will look a bit more posh for us. Mother instructed OK, we have to hurry for I just heard the car come. ‘Lets go!’ uttered Davy and out they went to work.
… This Fall Davy and Stew have been very busy and have enlarged kitchen area at their Central Way residence. Now a dining table and reading area are included in home. And on top of that, queen has her own bedroom now. She is very pleased with that. The guys can hang out in front of TV while mother has her naps. Few weeks later Elizabeth came over on her own. Why? Mother greeted her and talked of party. Maybe Elizabeth has come for the party?
… Well to our surprise Elizabeth had brought a cake for Queen’s birthday. The one that told Elizabeth about queen’s birthday was unable to be here but Elizabeth was at loose ends. Saraya was at work so Elizabeth got a cake and came over. How nice! Even queen’s birds were singing along with Happy Birthday. Queen is 58 years young yesterday. Well she was pleased, for Stew and Davy had just finished kitchen area and what a surprise to christen their new kitchen with. As we glance out window, here comes many more to this surprise party. It was doc Brad, nurse Terrance and Tommy guard all from government lot. It was a party all right. This is why queen talked about a party several times, for it was Her party.
… They took the cake out into yard on this warm autumn day. They had just put the large table out there, and there was ample room for all. They lit the candles again so all could see Queen at her best. Many pictures were taken, for some felt this queen would take over town. Others had heard this might happen very soon, so there is a buzz about this Birthday. It may be a very important day to all in future.
… They all sat about the big table outside, talking of the events that are taking place in their village. Stew informed ‘I know there is a phone call coming that may end with Overlord behind bars. There are several involved and all will know the outcome shortly.’
… Now the ones who knew of this were not saying too much for they did not wish the plans fouled by another. But they all know Overlord is on vacation and this in itself is cause to be jovial. We can see in this picture that Davy is telling Stew, he does not wish to travel any more. But then suddenly the phone rang. Stew spoke to Mother as he got up. ‘I’ll get it.’ Mother exclaimed ‘OH NO!’ She knows it is coming. Is this the call? The others went on eating and talking, as Stew went to answer phone.

… Sure enough, it was THE CALL from Wandering Ted. For some here it was a damper on the party, but for others it was the reality of the situation. So early tomorrow Stew and Davy will leave this lot for a trip. Good-luck guys! Nurse Terrance caught up with Stew and consoled ‘We wish you all the luck and take care of yourself. I do not say much to anyone here for I know something most do not.’ Stew’s eyes got wider. He questioned ‘OH?’ ‘Yes’ spoke Nurse. She talked quieter and stated, ‘I know you are a prince and could take over this area soon if your Mother abdicates. You may be our first ruler here?’ Stew smiled but did not say anything. He thanked her for coming and uttered, ‘Bye.’ She told him to care for himself and do not do anything foolish. ‘We wish a live king to take over here.’ She smiled and went on her way.
… After a few minutes Stew found himself alone in kitchen with Queen Mother. He asked ‘Do you know what Nurse Terrance just told me?’ ‘No,’ questioned Mother. ‘What?’ ‘She knows I’m prince and to be King soon. Did you say anything?’ ‘No I did not! But some people know I am a Queen, so they put one and one together. They are looking for a ruler simply because they are at unrest with Overlord and the situation. It will happen soon but we have a queen in Claire and also a princess in Cleo. So we will see later who the owners wish, to take over.’ Stew spoke up and stated, ‘It also depends on who does better in the contest.’ ‘Yes’ agreed Mother, ‘but do not worry about that now, you have a big day tomorrow. Just do not get killed in action.’ ‘Oh mother!’ stressed Stew and they went on. A bit later all settled down. Just outside by Ashley Way, Davy was saying bye to the last visitor before going in to rest. He commented to Government guard Tommy, ‘We were asked to help with Overlord. You may be asked later, for the trip tomorrow is simply to start things off. But we need to get our rest tonight, so I asked all to go early.’ ‘Oh yes’ agreed Tommy. ‘I understand. We will see you again.’ ‘Yes thanks.’ said Davy. And off went guard Tommy.
… Our three were able to watch a bit of TV before heading for bed. Davy rested in front of TV as others, but was nervous of what he had to do tomorrow. He is a more retiring fellow and this is too much. He kept hinting at Stew that he did not wish to travel but he knows he has to help his town to survive. He will be very glad to finish this and find a girl to settle down with. This trip has become too much for him. The next evening Stew and Davy went to Overlord’s with others, for Overlord is on vacation at this time. What will happen there and will they return successfully?

Chapter 7 … Three Wealthy Brothers.

Trouble Afoot.
… Earlier at home of Isaiah and Milly, Isaiah has just gotten a phone call to go to Overlord’s to gather evidence, and still stands by phone. He knew Milly was just beside him making tea. He queried ‘Dear, do you know where I put my protective jacket?’ Milly asked as turning about, ‘Oh… you got the call Hey?’ Isaiah turned and replied ‘Pity, but yes I did.’ Milly stated ‘Oh good, now we can stop paying for Overlord’s vacations.’ Isaiah smiled and Milly consoled, ‘I know where your jacket is dear, I will get it for you. Are you leaving right away?’ ‘Yes’ answered Isaiah. Milly disappeared into bathroom area and came out with jacket.
… Milly handed him the jacket and as he put it on she walked away in tears. Isaiah consoled ‘Its OK dear, I will not be long. They have set it up so it is an easy trip. We know the guard who will be there. Overlord and most of his guards are many miles from here. He travels far on his vacations dear, this is why he wants so much money from us.’ After shutting down her woman’s intuition, Milly apologized ‘Yes I’m sorry, I’m just over come. Of course you’ll be fine. It’s just my silly side coming to the fore.’ She looked up at him and he gave her a big hug. Isaiah instructed, ‘You go to work tomorrow and I will be back probably before you get home, OK?’ Milly asked ‘But if you are not, what should I do?’ Isaiah replied, ‘Just wait dear and if I’m not home by tomorrow evening call government lot, then get together with others. But I am sure that all will be fine. Please be at peace. … Come I will go now.’
… In the evening air as they walked to edge of their lot, at First Lane and Ashley Path, Isaiah paused saying, ‘Are you OK dear?’ Milly answered ‘Yes, you go now, I will be fine. I will wait for your return.’ ‘OK Milly, you take care of yourself and I will take care of myself. Is it a deal?’ Milly laughed saying ‘Yes dear, see you soon.’ Then she stood there silently in the twilight watching her bow go out of sight.

… Very late that night about 3:30 AM, here comes Isaiah racing to his home.

… Milly was woken with the door and in walked Isaiah all out of breath. ‘Oh dear!’ he uttered, ‘I have to hide. What should I do?’ ‘Oh’ asked Milly ‘Who is chasing you?’ He went quickly to couch and sat there in fear. Milly questioned ‘You’re home early? What is wrong dear?’ Isaiah put his head in his hands and started to cry. Milly was right there with arms around him. ‘Did anyone get hurt?’ Isaiah sniffed a few times and tried to stop crying. He was catching his breath by now and he settled down. He explained, ‘The guards caught the entire group but me. Follicles! I ran for my life. I do not know if they saw me or if anyone is coming. I don’t know what to do?’
… Milly sat down beside him and consoled, ‘Just settle down and when you are calm I will phone a neighbor. We need to have a meeting and discuss this. I know Elijah would be here in an instant, but dear it is 3 in the morning. Settle down and I will lock the door here.’ She locked the door and looked out window for a few minutes but did not see anyone coming.
… She went to Isaiah saying, ‘There is nobody outside. Maybe you got away safely? How come the others did not run with you?’ Isaiah replied ‘I don’t know? But Bean gave me this box.’ Isaiah sat there for a minute, then he opened his jacket to show Milly the mettle box tucked in his waist. Milly stated, ‘Well give it to me and I will put it out in dugout at back.’ Isaiah replied ‘Good idea. I will go to Mona or Elijah’s place in a few hours.’ Milly uttered ‘I’m coming too!’ ‘Ok dear, but I need to get some sleep. Please go out with this now. I need to lie down I don’t feel good.’ ‘Ok,’ and off she went.
… Milly went out back to tuck box in a cubbyhole in ground. Nobody would find it there. That place is not visible to the eye unless you know it is there. It is under one of the concrete blocks that make walk. She knelt there for a minute or two just to collect her thoughts. When in the dark she heard the morning birds starting their early singing. This relaxed her a bit.
… When Milly got in, there was Isaiah inside door. He uttered ‘Follicles! I can’t sleep!’ Milly replied ‘Of course, you are too keyed up. Come tell me what happened and get it off your mind.’ They went and sat down while Isaiah started talking of his trip. He explained ‘Well, I walked over an hour to get near Overlord’s on Bramble Way. While standing with others Ted Handson approached Overlord’s castle. Dan guard was to unlock door at about 130 AM. We waited, then as we went in most went into the bedrooms there. As we looked about a guard came down stairs and we froze.
… It was dark in the house and I was able to crawl to a hall and found Bean who gave me the box. He told me to go out back door and I kept running till I got here. The only thing I heard was the alarm go off when the back door closed. I was so fearful, I just ran. Milly interrupted stating, ‘I will make some tea dear, you keep talking.’
… After a minute or two Isaiah went on with, ‘I came out side of building, and saw the main path of Bramble Way. I thought not to go there, so ducked behind bushes and trees to escape area.’
… As Milly gave him a cup of tea, She asked ‘So how come you were so out of breath?’ Isaiah explained, ‘When I got out that door all I could think of was to run, and I never looked back. I was much in fear and kept listening for dogs or something to come and get me.’ I had the box secured in pants so it would not be seen. I headed here right away trying to make sure no one was following me.’ Milly stated, ‘Well no one followed you, for they have had much time to get here. I want you to go sleep now, you look very tired.’ ‘Yeah,’ uttered Isaiah as he headed towards sleeping area.
… Milly stayed up pondering in the dark, which soon became light. She kept an eye on the window, while Isaiah slept in another room near. Milly passed the time watching TV with no sound and she could hear Isaiah snoring, so knew he did get some sleep. But Isaiah’s mind was so confused as to what to do that it was hard to sleep peaceably.
… Just after 7 AM Isaiah got up and showered then came out to watch TV as they talked quietly. Milly Stated ‘If they were coming after you dear, they would have been here 2-3 hours ago. Isaiah had his head down still in disbelief. Milly stated, ‘I feel you snuck by them real good. Now I must use washroom then I will phone a neighbor.’ ‘Yes dear’ replied Isaiah. ‘I will make some food.’
… Milly got a hold of Tommy guard and told what happened. Guard told her to get to neighbors for protection. Tommy said, ‘Tell Isaiah not to worry! We will gather people and go there to save them all. Then Guard asked, ‘There were only 3 guards there?’ Milly turned to Isaiah who was gulping his food down, and she asked ‘Only 3 guards there Dear?’ Isaiah replied ‘Yes that is all we saw.’ Milly told Tommy then hung up and ate with Isaiah. Few minutes later they got a call from Mother Rikki who Tommy had alerted. Our two headed there as soon as they could. Isaiah actually ran on ahead of Milly.

At Rikki Chaudhry’s Home.
… In late 24th week, in kitchen as Shawn was making dinner, Tommy guard phoned, and Rikki got it. She got off from guard after hearing news and told Shawn there is trouble afoot. Then without another word she phoned Isaiah and Mona. They being family need to know how each is.
… Isaiah came right over and Rikki met him in their front lot along the path of First Place Loop. Isaiah talked of Guard Tommy, telling him to stay with friends. Rikki agreed ‘Yes, You could stay with us for a while till they see what is happening with your group?’ ‘Yes’ answered Isaiah, ‘maybe that would be wise for a bit anyway. I would sleep better at nights.’ Rikki stated ‘Shawn has made breakfast, please go in and eat. Oh, and I did ask Milly to come, did she?’ ‘Yes’ replied Isaiah. ‘I kind of hurried here for I’m nervous of all the cops around, but she will be along soon, thanks.’
… Before Isaiah had the chance to go in for eats, here comes Milly. ‘Oh hi dear. Not to rock the Boat, but would you and Isaiah please stay here for now?’ asked Rikki as she shook Milly’s hand. Rikki went on quietly with, ‘I’ve never seen Isaiah so frightened. Must have been an ordeal.’ Milly turned and noticed Isaiah bowing his head and over come with tears. They went to him and he was shaking of shock. Rikki said, ‘Shawn and I have 2 cots we will set up for you. You can sleep anytime Isaiah. You need to come in and have a good stiff cup of coffee.’ ‘Yes, … I don’t know what is wrong with me? I feel so heavy? No sleep maybe?’ and they all wandered into home.
… As they drank coffee and lounged in living area, Rikki went on with. ‘Shawn and I have to go to work later as normal but you make yourselves at home here, OK.’ ‘Sure ‘ agreed Milly. ‘That is great. Thank you.’
… Later that day as Isaiah was standing near eating table, Rikki came home from work and went to phoned her other son Elijah, to invite him over. After that she went out front and there was daughter Monish. As going out front door Rikki called to Mona saying, ‘Thanks for coming dear, there is much afoot. Bean has been caught with many others at Overlord’s mansion but we are planning a rescue.’ ‘Oh No!’ uttered Mona, interrupting Mother as she broke into tears. Being newly weds it was a shock.
Rikki explained to the group, ‘The Gov. Guard Tommy told me that we should band together for protection. I call you people to our home here, for it’s a larger home than most. Are you all OK with this?’ Mona wiped her eyes and uttered ‘Yeah, sort of.’ Rikki added ‘And I hope Elijah is coming soon too. I tried to call just now but no answer.’ Mona agreed ‘Oh fine! It’s the whole family together again, hey?’ ‘Yes dear, I think it best for we can make plans. Is there anyone else you know that could help us out?’ Mona thought for a minute then stated, ‘I know Elizabeth and I think she is alone too. Should she come over and help?’ Mother Rikki asked ‘Well is she young and spry?’ ‘Yes’ replied Mona, ‘She is younger than I, and her job is a security cop.’ Rikki uttered ‘Oh yes! Invite her over right away please.’ Mona picked up with ambition and stated ‘OK I will go invite my friend over to stay.

Elizabeth At Home.
… In 24th week of story Elizabeth got a call from Mona Najjar. Elizabeth had met her at market a few times and now Mona seemed very excited for Elizabeth to come over. When Mona told Elizabeth of the others being captured, Elizabeth was more interested. She asked, ‘Did Ted go with them and was he captured too? Mona answered ‘Yes I think so.’
…‘Well, come over to First Place Loop and ask Isaiah for yourself. There is lots of food here and many are coming. It is an effort to save the others who are imprisoned in Overlord’s mansion.’ Elizabeth asked, ‘Well I thought Overlord was on vacation?’ ‘Yes’ answered Mona, ‘it was his guards who trapped our people.’ Elizabeth consoled, ‘I’ll be over tomorrow after work.’

At Rikki’s Home.
… The next day Rikki Chaudhry went out front and looked up. There was son Elijah coming onto her lot. ‘Hi there, Our Boat is rocking but I’m happy to see you dear. We have problems to solve and you were often very good at that. How did you get my message?’ Elijah walked up to mother and explained ‘Oh, neighbors called me over late yesterday, and we talked of what was happening.’
… As they finished that conversation who should come along but Nurse Terrance and Doctor Brad of government lot. Brad explained, ‘Queen Claire wished us to come with herbal teas to relax the crowd here. Nerves will be high at times of confrontation.’ Rikki uttered ‘Oh that is great, I know I could use some relaxing medicine. Go on in and Shawn will help you there. And please thank Claire for me.’ ‘Sure’ answered Nurse, as they wandered in.
… As Shawn was making eats and Milly was sitting at table, Mona was on phone to Elizabeth again, reminding her of meeting. Elizabeth was very willing to come over. She stated, ‘I will be over later today.’ Mona agreed ‘Oh good, thank you.’ Then Shawn heard others come in door and was surprised to see Doc and Nurse. ‘Oh what brings you people here?’ Nurse answered ‘This is Complements of Claire, we bring relaxation teas for the group.’ Shawn uttered ‘Good, some here will appreciate that, like Isaiah. Here I will put the kettle on and here are two teapots. Go ahead, make it for us please.’ ‘OK’ replied Nurse Terra as she managed to get though all the people to the counter.
… Meanwhile, Outside we see Elijah talking to Mother Rikki asking, ‘How are you doing mom?’ They said a few more things including the fact that Julie was pregnant. ‘Oh’ questioned Rikki, ‘You plan to marry?’ Elijah blurted out ‘Oh yes, right away! It will be a very simple ceremony though. An official person comes to Joe’s Market on Market Lane every few months. We will go there.’ Elijah went on with, ‘But now I feel the rescue operation to get others out of Overlord’s is very important. I must go back to my Julie tonight but do not worry, we will think of some way to rescue our people.’
… Rikki started talking of broken hearts. She replied, ‘Especially Mona’s.’ Elijah agreed, ‘Yes she does get herself in a tizzy at times, but it will be OK, I will look after her.’ Rikki replied, ‘Well if something is not done, there will be many more people with broken hearts here, not just Mona’s.’
… Later out front, Elizabeth Chan was approaching Chaudhry’s lot and stood near main path of First Place Loop. She was unsure when she saw people she did not know. Then suddenly she saw Mona running out of home toward her. Mona had seen Elizabeth coming down the walk and she ran to greet her. She was very happy to see her again. She hollered, ‘Hi, I’m sure glad you came.’ Giggle Giggle…. Elizabeth talked of the trip here. ‘I am very tired right now. I live quite far from here and it took me 2 hours walking, you know? I have just finished an 8-hour working day to boot.’ ‘Yes’ agreed Mona, ‘but you are my best friend and I need someone to talk to.’ Elizabeth uttered ‘Cool! So why are all these people here?’ Mona answered, ‘Others have been trapped but Isaiah got away. He is inside and said he would discuss things with us later. They have to plan how to get our people out of Overlord’s home.’ Mona then asked her to come in and that they would be eating soon. When they got in there was Isaiah, who Elizabeth knew. He was telling a bunch of people how they got trapped. Mona went on with, ‘Overlord is still on vacation so the sooner we get the people out of mansion the better.’ Elizabeth blurted out, ‘Oh God, is that the owner who taxes us so much.’ ‘Yes’ answered Mona as making faces. She went on, ‘We have to do something about that anyway, so we have a lot to figure out. Come and eat! We have snacks here.’ ‘Oh good.’ uttered Elizabeth, ‘I came from work and am starved.’ ‘Sure’ agreed Mona, ‘but I want to hear this story from Isaiah. Grab a sandwich and come, let’s sit.’
… As they all gathered inside, one asked Isaiah what happened that the others got caught, and he got away? So Isaiah started telling them of the trip to Overlord’s. Mona and Elizabeth sat and got engrossed with story, as most did in this late afternoon.

Isaiah’s view of Trip to Overlord’s.
… Well, it took about an hour to get to Overlord’s Winter Mansion in the north. Then when waiting along Bramble Way, Wandering Ted approached Overlord’s castle with the others and I (Isaiah) behind him. We were told that Dan guard would unlock mansion door at about 130 AM. We all had flashlights but Ted told us not to use them unless looking for papers. We traveled outside Overlord’s mansion by moonlight but inside the guards were there with lights on. Bean and Davie volunteered to go to door and see if unlocked and the others stayed back. Bean found a fence maze they had to go through but in the dark, they just felt by hand where the fencing went and followed. Along the way we saw Davie’s silhouette bump into Bean several times. I guess they could not see.’
… They eventually did get to front door of mansion where they saw Dan guard standing near. They figured Dan heard them approaching so stopped and waited till Dan went away from entrance again. They turned to Ted and us, waving to come. Then Davy and Bean heard Dan guard say, ‘Come on guys, I have just finished my rounds. Let’s go up stairs and play pool before we go for a sleep.’ Another guard said ‘Oh good, I have gotten better and I know I will beat you this time.’
… The others of our group and I congregated at front door, as Bean and Davy stood silent. Someone asked Ted about why there was more than Dan guarding mansion. There was no answer. As we waited we saw some of the lights go out on the lower floor. Bean commented ‘Good, for now we can hide in the dark if another guard comes. Ted asked quietly ‘Now, do you all know what we are looking for?’ ‘Yes’ replied Stew, ‘papers.’ Ted stipulated, ‘Yes any papers,’ ‘Look in desk or bookcase or even kitchen cupboards. We must be quick though. OK are you ready?’
… I was very nervous and was last one in front door. As entering door I heard a window being opened upstairs. I froze at front door then stepped back to view window. I could hear a guard say, ‘Hurry up Chum, I have to go on my rounds in 2 hours. Here, rack them up.’ With this my mind settled realizing the guards were upstairs, and I went in front door. I saw Ted paused near stairs to the left, then saw another further away in this large room, so I made a beeline to back of room around this large, ornate eating-table.
… Then Ted, upon seeing a Guard coming down the stairs, whispered ‘Oh,’ and he ducked behind the table. But the guard had seen someone as he came down those stairs. Guard called ‘Who goes there?’ Ted started crawling along the tables to try to escape.
… I was near and also ducked behind the big dining table there. I knew in my black pants and top, I would not seen in the dark. I could not go out front door again, for would have to go by guards view. I found myself near a wall at back and crawled around corner into a sort of hallway out of main room. The guard spoke, ‘You will not get away whoever you are, this place is all automatic’
… As I crawled down this corridor I heard whispering to my left. I was not sure what to do, then saw Bean’s eyes and hand, waving me in. Then Bean asked me to take this box and pointed further down hall to a lighter colored door. Then he ordered me, ‘That way, try that door!’ So I got up and ran the 3 yards, pushed the door with all my might and on out into the cold air. A second later the alarm went off and I was even more frightened. I came out of the building and turned right. There I saw the main path of Bramble Way and thought not to go there, but ducked behind bush and tree as I made my way back towards the route we came by. When I got out that door, all I could think of was, run, and I never looked back. I was much in fear and kept listening for dogs or something to come get me. ‘But now I feel, nobody knew I was there except our group. I have the box Bean gave me. I hope it has enough evidence to overthrow Overlord. Isaiah then got up and went to Milly’s side saying, ‘I got home to my dearest best friend. He gave her a hug and all went on talking among themselves.
… Later out in Rikki’s yard along First Place Loop, Shawn and Isaiah sat to play a game while Shawn was consoling Isaiah while discussed sunnier days. Rikki was near and she came and sat with them. Isaiah was very concern as to what the guards were going to do with his group. With this Shawn started asking questions; ‘Where are they in the castle?’ Isaiah answered ‘I don’t know. Some were in the bedrooms there. Bean is one who handed me the mettle box, ‘Oh, I left it at my house!’ Maybe I should have brought it here? I was not thinking right.’ ‘That is OK’ consoled Shawn, ‘no one will steel it. Was it put away?’ ‘Yes, in our secret hideaway.’ Rikki replied ‘Well no one will know that. What was in the box, do you know?’ ‘Well I’m not sure, but I heard others talked of papers. I think they were trying to get evidence to commit Overlord?’ Shawn commented ‘Oh well, we will get the box tomorrow. But not so fast! We need to get hold of Guard Tommy. He should be in on conversations for he will know what is legal or not.’ ‘Yes’ agreed Isaiah, ‘that is a good idea.’
… In the next day or three there was much talking. Doc and nurse came several times just to serve teas then go on their routes as norm. Here in living area we see Elizabeth talking to Mona about how to save the people. Elizabeth is suggested, ‘If there were only 3 guards, they should go put them under custody and move into mansion. Then when Overlord comes home from vacation he will not be able to get in, especially if we change the locks.’ Mona looked distrait so Elizabeth stated ‘Keep Cool! Do not worry! With all the people here we are surely to save them.’ Milly behind them spoke up and stated, ‘Well I do not wish Isaiah to go back there for sure.’
… Elizabeth was listening but then remembered something. She uttered ‘Well blow me down! I talked to Wandering Ted a while ago and he told me he has tunnels at his lot. He has this machine that tunnels into dirt. If we knew where the people were in Overlord’s mansion we could tunnel them out.’
… Mona spoke up with, ‘Well if it is a big machine, there is no way we can get it there without being seen. There are three guards there you know?’ ‘Yes’ replied Milly, ‘it will be risky.’ Elizabeth answered with ‘Roger that! But no! I think the machine is small. For if Ted was able to make several tunnels on his property by himself, it must be easy to handle? I think it must still be on his property, too.’ ‘Well quipped Mona, ‘If we can save Bean’s life, I am willing to go to this lot myself to retrieve it’. Elizabeth smiled saying, ‘Lets talk it over with the guys first.’
… Later in evening, all gathered about TV in living area. They were not watching TV but discussing the rescue effort. Elijah was talking of a party. Mona replied interrupting him, ‘Well I will have a party when Bean is saved from prison.’ Isaiah standing in front of her said, ‘Yes but do not worry, we will figure out a way.’ If we could get that machine Elizabeth talked of and find out where the prisoners are in the mansion, we can take the machine there and dig them out?’
… Elijah sitting next to Elizabeth asked, ‘And who told you of this machine?’ ‘Oh a few months back Wandering Ted came to my lot and we chatted. He told me that if war broke out we should all go to his lot and live in these tunnels. This is how he avoids paying the large tax bills we get. Nobody knows for sure if he lives there, for he is never about.’ ‘Well’ uttered Isaiah, ‘he will not be about there now, for he is jailed at mansion.’
… Milly, from other side of room asked, ‘Are you people sure Ted would not mind us snooping about his lot?’ Elizabeth replied with, ‘Well if we save him dear he would not mind if we ransacked the place!’ ‘Yes’ agreed Mona, ‘and at this point, I myself would ransack his place if it meant saving my Bean.’
… Elijah spoke to Elizabeth beside him, ‘Do you know where this Wandering Ted lives?’ ‘Well Yes! He actually gave me instructions how to get to Wild Cat Trail, as if he knew we would need to know?’ ‘OK’ agreed Elijah, as looking to the rest to his right, ‘I propose that Elizabeth and I go to Ted’s lot and find this machine. If it is feasible to bring it to mansion we will get it here for starters. Then after a break we will go on to mansion.’
… Then Isaiah spoke up saying ‘I will come and help you, can I?’ Elijah looked at him and smiled, ‘Sure, but I want you to stay here when we go to mansion. You should not be caught again. ‘OK’ agreed Isaiah, ‘I would feel better if I was not expected to go back to prison.’ Isaiah turned to Elijah pointedly and said ‘Thanks.’
Elijah went on saying, In fact I will go to mansion myself, before we take machine there. If I just have a friendly chat with the guards, I may be able to glean info as to where these people are, you talk of.’
… Isaiah turned to Shawn saying, ‘How about you? Would you go help these people out by taking machine to mansion with them?’ Shawn just looked at him. He was nervous and did not wish to get involved.
(There has been a change in Shawn from olden days. For he was one who helped Rikki out with her sick husband back then. The fact is, he is very much in love with Rikki as of recent. Rikki is OK so he wishes to stay OK, and be with her. The others talked of Shawn later and they decided to leave Shawn out of doings. When you are in Love you are not that coherent and the last things they wish, is to have Shawn captured along with the rest.)

… Elijah commented again to Isaiah, ‘Brother, I do not wish you to come to mansion for you have already been caught and they will know you. I will think of another that may help us.’ He looked at Elizabeth and stated ‘I leave you the job of escorting Isaiah and myself to Wandering Ted’s. Since Ted gave you instructions we will follow you.’ Elizabeth smiled and answered ‘Sure, when will we go?’ Isaiah replied with ‘The sooner the better for Overlord will be home in a couple of weeks.’ Mona stated ‘Go tomorrow early in morning.’ ‘OK’ answered Elijah. ‘I must go home to my wife to be. We should all get a good sleep and go to Ted’s at dawn.’
… While this was happening Mother Rikki had been outside in garden and when she came in she got the news of the trip to Ted’s. She was pleased and asked Shawn if he was going. ‘Oh, I do not wish to’ replied Shawn. Elijah replied ‘No, you two stay here and keep home for us. We will all meet back here in a day or two.’
… Next day Rikki was out to read paper and saw this fellow she had seen at market. Isaiah went and greeted him. It is Berry of Para Lot. Isaiah stated ‘Bean has been caught and is imprisoned at mansion. Maybe later you can help us out?’ ‘Oh’ agreed Berry, ‘For sure, I will go home and let the others know. We must help our group members at least.’ Isaiah replied ‘Thanks, we will let you know.’ Berry left for was on his way to an appointment.
… In this new day as breakfast was served at First Place Loop, the place was packed. But some were waiting for Elijah to return from his home. Later Isaiah managed to meet Elijah and told him about Berry coming. ‘He will help us later for sure. You know he is of the group at Para Lot. Remember the ones that got here too late so are only to help us out?’ As this was taking place you can see Shawn standing behind Elijah and listening. He is wondering if he should not be in on this activity. With all these people here his relationship with Rikki has been put on hold.
… Now that Elijah had returned, the three could make a trip to Wandering Ted’s place. This would only take them a day or two. So Rikki went ahead and told some, ‘If you wish to go to your homes for a day or two, it is OK, but be sure to be back in two days.’ Some like Mona were not willing to go back to an empty house.
… Now we leave Mother Rikki with her house full of kids and relatives to be. Elizabeth and two of Rikki’s kids, Elijah and Isaiah may be back tomorrow but probably the next day. Rikki hollered ‘Good luck!’ as she watched her two boys off down the First Place Loop to the right. Hope Elizabeth Turko knows where she is going.

Chapter 8 … Three Wealthy Brothers .

Rescue Under Way.
… Back at Mother Rikki’s it is September, and it has been 4 days since the three went to Ted’s. As the people at Rikki’s busied themselves with activities, our ladies were getting a bit anxious.
It was later in afternoon when Milly was out front with Rikki and a black cat of area. Then as the cat left Milly, Rikki caught up with her at front door. They were watching the cat chasing its tail in yard, when suddenly they saw people. They both hollered in unison. ‘The guys are back!’ and they rushed to meet them.
… Rikki ran to Isaiah who announced, ‘We got the machine.’ He turned back to look at Elijah who had machine dragging behind him. Rikki uttered ‘Boy that looks heavy.’ Elijah agreed ‘Yes a bit, but we took turns.’ Elizabeth explained ‘Sorry we took so long. But we accomplished what we went to do. Now we got to get this to mansion!’ She put her head down and from tiredness uttered, ‘Blow me down!’ Isaiah uttered ‘Pity! We can’t take it to mansion, before we figure out how to use it.’ Elijah agreed ‘Yes, Good Idea. Thanks loads! All we need is to drag this to mansion and find it does not work!’ They pulled machine further into yard and left it outside door as they went in to use facilities, rest and eat a big meal.
… Some of the group, who had gone home for a few days, had also come back with food, to await the news. They had to wait another day but it was like a party now and they all had lots of stories and many laughs. Then Isaiah chimed in with, ‘And it was I who figured out where the sleigh was to pull that thing home by.’ ‘Yes’ agreed Elijah. ‘We all did well on that trip.’ So as all ate and things started settling down, Elizabeth was asked to tell her story of the trip.

Elizabeth’s View Of Trip To Ted’s.
… On this journey to Ted’s on Wild Cat Trail, I (Elizabeth) had to remember what Ted’s instructions were those many weeks ago. The fellows let me have my quiet times to think back, for they had no idea where we were going. I told them we had to find the cliffs that shone like light in the sunset. But being men they rarely gazed into sky in evening let alone in day.
… We ran through flat land with no obstacles and scurry through bush and tree. We felt the quicker we get this journey over with the sooner our people will be back in their homes.
… We went through some rugged land and at times there were some cool breezes blowing up the hills. We stopped at one place and Elijah gave me his jacket-like top. I took it just for a few minutes then gave it back for he had a light T-shirt on. Also we had to watch for potholes on the main paths. As sure as shootin, you could break a leg in one of them!’
… In one area as I was leading, I noticed the ground was shaking. I turned back to the fellows behind me, with question, but they had no idea what to say. Elijah instructed ‘Just go slow.’ As we slowly went along, I felt water at my feet. I looked down and started sliding and sinking into this very-soft soggy-sod. I squealed and turned suddenly saying, ‘Help me!’ Both Isaiah and Elijah grabbed an arm and they dragged me to where they were and all jumped back a bit. I was beside myself and gasped. I became very weak putting weight onto the guy’s arms. They said, ‘Are you OK dear, as I sank down to sit at their feet. It’s a good thing we had been going slowly, for if we had all been out in that bog, beyond the edge, we may have sunk into the peat.
… As I was sitting at the guy’s feet, I noticed all the pitcher plants about. The thought came to me; maybe this is a sign to watch for. Maybe these pitcher plants like soggy-boggy patches. I looked closer and knew they were having a good meal with bugs and flies in their pitcher traps. There was a smell there, and it did not take me long to wish to get up and go in another direction.
… We were thankful, for the September weather stayed nice for our whole journey. We went by a small hut shortly after the sinking, and I thought I had lived there before. I was not sure for the grass had overgrown much through the summer, and there did not seem to be a garden area. I suggested, ‘Well we could spend the night here?’
… Elijah uttered ‘Swift and true, maybe we should. You had quite an experience and we all need a dry rest from the elements.’ So after a quiet sit to settle ourselves, it was getting dusk and we curled up in this small hut 10 by 10 and had a cozy sleep on the grassy floor. That night I had a nightmare and all were awake for an hour or two. This time it was not the bog I was sinking in, it was my mother’s soup. Ha Ha. I must have been hungry.
… Then next morning, we found a lake near and washed some of the food we brought. It was nice to hear the robins squawk as they readied themselves for their migrations. We were also hearing the small peep of the Juncos, often called the winter robin. They have a pinkish chest like robins but this sparrow-sized bird has black throat and whitish beak.
… After that eventful morning, we were off again. A few hours later we could see the cliffs so had a direction to follow. This was a relief to the fellows for then they had confidence I would find Ted’s home. We then came to a forest edge and while Elijah and I stood there, Isaiah ran towards trees. I asked, ‘What’s wrong?’ Isaiah replied ‘Nature calls, sorry you two.’ and he ran out of sight. Elijah commented ‘He should have gone at that lake 2 hours ago.’ I said something about people work differently. Some have control, some do not.’
… Elijah announced ‘Well I am going to get more of that food out. Its getting into afternoon and I thought we would have been there by now?’ I answered ‘Yes, we may be longer than expected. Hopefully we will get to Ted’s lot before dark. Lets eat now to tide us over till we reach Ted’s.’ Isaiah came back in five and we sat against the big trees there, which began a large forested area. It will be cooler in forest and will be more relaxing in the shade.
… After we ate we had to get up and go again. We started into forest and it got very deep. I hesitated but the guys were ahead of me leading the way. I could not see the cliffs we had been following, but I asked ‘We must be getting close do you think?’ Elijah speculated. ‘Well this forest will end or at least get sparser. We will keep going in the direction of the sunset.’ I quipped ‘Well yeah, if you can see it.’
… Ten minutes later I was in lead and said ‘It looks as if a clearing coming up.’ ‘I hope so’ answered Isaiah, ‘the mosquitoes are eating my arms and it is starting to get dark. It would be nice to find another shelter like last night’s.’ Elijah replied ‘Well, we have to keep going Brother. Come on I will lead now,’ and we headed into more trees.
… Then in a bit we came to a clearing and there was a fruit tree. We started to run and I uttered ‘Cool, I see the cliffs right there. How nice we are very close now.’ Elijah instructed ‘Yes, our way is swift and true, but not before we have a couple of apples here. And I will sleep in those trees there this night. They are evergreens and close together. They will shelter us from the wind.’ We all agreed and ate a few apples then rested.
… After eating we walked almost a city block, to some trees bunched together. There we found a comfortable spot to sleep. Right at base of trees the earth was still warm and this would keep us good for a few hours. As we settled down we watched the harvest moon sinking in the western sky.
… We awoke with daybreak and many birds. I (Elizabeth) looked about and explained ‘It will be to the left here for the cliffs are there and I was told to go SW from the cliffs.’ With Glee I replied ‘Come on guys, lets go find that machine!’
… Later we came to some weeping willows and saw more trees beyond, but then I saw a large hole in ground. ‘See boys, is this a tunnel?’ Isaiah announced ‘Well, it has steps of stone! Should we go in?’ Elijah answered ‘Come, lets go in a bit and see.’ So we went carefully, crouching down almost to crawling position and after 3 yards it opened up to a height of about 7-ft. It was only about 7-ft. wide as well. There was a small table with chair and a grass woven basket with fruit in. ‘Blow me down.’ We figured it had to be one of Ted’s tunnels.
… We went another few yards into tunnel and there was a sleeping place packed with dry grasses. After that long journey it sure looked inviting! Elijah announced ‘I will go a bit further, you two stay here.’ Off he went, but he did not find a machine at the end of that tunnel. He returned and we consoled ourselves saying, ‘There will be more than one tunnel.’ We got out of tunnel into the bright sunny day and walked further to some fruit trees, where we picked an apple and some cherries to eat. Then 5 minutes later there was another tunnel. Before we went into this tunnel I (Elizabeth) saw a small garden patch in the distance. I uttered ‘Cool! This must be where Ted lived.’ Isaiah questioned ‘Maybe the machine is in this tunnel?’ Elijah said, ‘Well lets find out shall we.’ And off we went down into the ground again.
… This time it had wood at entrance not rocks. We went in and found an underground stream. It was first fresh water we came to in 36 hours, so we drank lots and washed up before going further. As we went a yard farther down this slope, we came upon a fridge and underground storage for crops. The tunnel narrowed a great deal after that and one could have gotten stuck if not careful.
… The guys asked me to go in for I was less bulky. Well, as I disappeared into this hole in ground, I saw this shining mettle contraption and shrieked. The light shinning down from an air hole above, was casting a sheen upon this machine. Then Elijah Hollered, ‘How big is it?’ I commented, ‘Well maybe I can move it?’ I tried and answered, ‘It’s stuck in the ground here.’ Elijah said ‘Here, as he handed me a Long Branch from a tree. He instructed, ‘You put that up in the air vent and I will go out and find it. You keep hollering so I will hear you, OK?’ Isaiah agreed ‘Yeah and I will holler too.’ ‘OK Brother, I will follow your voices. Give me a minute though. I will call to you.’ And Elijah disappeared, going out the way we went in.
… Elijah went to entrance of tunnel and backtracked going about the same length as they went inside the tunnel. When he came to Ted’s garden patch, it was near main path of Wild Cat Trail, so he looked about first to make sure nobody was there. Then he hollered, ‘Elizabeth, do you hear me?’ Right away I answered ‘Yes I do.’ Elijah turned and there by a group of trees was a small evergreen shaking in ground. He pulled on the branch and I uttered ‘Cool! You found us!’
Elijah instructed, ‘Tell Isaiah to come out and help me dig away the earth here.’
… Isaiah came out but was thinking, what can we dig earth with? He saw the small shack of Ted’s and went there. It was so small that only one person could curl up and sleep, but there was a heap of dry clean grass within. At the back of this 3 by 3 shed he found a shovel made of a small tree trunk and took it to Elijah. ‘Oh great thinking, Isaiah! ‘I will dig now and you dig later.’ I (Elizabeth) was still in the tunnel and I heard Elijah holler to stand back, and they dug a larger hole.
… It took about an hour. Then Elijah went back into tunnel and lifted machine out to Isaiah. They were able to drag it out all right, but it was only worth dragging away, which was no good. ‘Follicles! How did Ted get it here?’ asked Isaiah. By this time I had come out of tunnel and uttered ‘Blow me down! He must have had a flat bed or dally to pull it by?’ ‘My Saints!’ uttered Elijah, ‘Come on, lets look about. Look for anything with wheels on it.’
… By this time we were all getting very tired. The guys had spent one and half-hours digging, and then we spent at least half an hour searching but could not find anything. We were all disappointed, for could not drag this heavy thing back to Rikki’s. It would only dig a groove as we went.

Continuing Hope.
… We took a rest as we sat near the shed. Elijah explained further, ‘Well we could get strips of bark for the machine to ride on? Maybe get a log and put machine on, so it may roll, at least Down the hills.’ Elijah added in his confusion, ‘There were loads of hills along the way.’
… Isaiah commented ‘The log idea seems cheesy, they are too heavy and we would have to harvest them. But the bark of trees sounds better if we could tie them to machine and let it slide on dry grass. If it’s enough grass it should not sink but slide.’
… With this Isaiah leaned over and opened the door of the shed and stated, ‘Like this grass here. It would slide easily on dry grass if it were thick enough.’ I (Elizabeth) agreed ‘Roger that, but we would need to get a lot of grass, and to make a path to where we came from, would take months.’ Isaiah replied ‘Not if two of us picked up the grass in back and put it in the front as Elijah drags the machine?’ Elijah answered ‘Ah-ha, is it worth a try? Elijah looked puzzled at Isaiah and myself. Then he confessed, ‘But we are still looking at a week or two to get back home!’
… We all went quiet again, thinking of other ways that may be better. Isaiah was looking at all the grass in this very small hut. Then he noticed a space between the floor of hut and all the grass pilled up on top. He reached over and tried pushing the board down more. When that didn’t work he tried lifting it up to see why it was blocked, when suddenly he shouted ‘Hey, here is the way Ted got the machine here!’ Elijah and I looked his way as he jumped up and lifted the board up and out of shed.
… There was a board with Skis on each side! He looked at Elijah and exclaimed ‘This will work!’ ‘Yes!’ replied Elijah, ‘That will work!’
… We all jumped up with smiles all around. Then hurried to take board to placed machine on it. Then with ease, we took turns sliding it through grass on Ted’s lot. The skis were wide, so did not dig into ground, but slid over grass and dirt alike. Before we were through our gleeful time, some had gotten rides through Ted’s grasslands.
… By now it was late afternoon and we decided to go back to the orchard we ate from 6 hours ago. We slept there that night and start off homeward early next morning. Before we left Ted’s area we packed a knapsack of produce and off we went, until we arrived back here at Rikki’s.
… As the story wound up back at First Place Loop, Elizabeth was silent as others were talking of what she said. Then Elijah announced ‘But it is not over people, and tomorrow we wake and go the next mile or two.’ He turned to Isaiah and stated ‘But I do not wish you to go with us.’ ‘Yes I know, that is fine. I will stay here with Milly, thanks.’
… Later as conversation was going on, Elijah was standing aside thinking. He then turned and announced ‘I feel we need to visit mansion before we take this machine there. We have to know where the prisoners are or we might dig a tunnel right into guard’s quarters.’ ‘Yes’ agreed Rikki. ‘Then all would be caught.’
… Elijah went on saying, ‘Tomorrow morning I will walk about. I will not make anyone upset but just go there and chat with guards. Maybe they will tell me what is happening. I have not been one who put my foot out, so they do not know me. You people wait for my return tomorrow. I will leave from my lot in early morn, OK?’ Isaiah cautioned ‘OK, if you wish Sir, but Be Careful. I do know that the first room inside the front door is a very large room with dining table and the bedrooms are further in towards the left walls.’ ‘Good! Thanks for your concern’ spoke Elijah, ‘I will take care. I will go home now and get a good night sleep.’ Elijah paused, then looked at Isaiah and saying ‘Brother, please check out that machine and learn how it works for me. I’m sure Mother would not mind if you dig tunnels in her lot. When I get back tomorrow night you can show me how to operate the ‘Tuneler’. ‘Could you do that for me please?’ ‘Sure’ answered Isaiah. He turned to Rikki and asked ‘Mom, can you help me too?’ ‘OK dear, that is not a problem.’ They said their byes to Elijah wishing him luck, then he went home and prepared for a visit to mansion.
… Rikki gathered the people together that were under her roof and announced ‘The next trip will be maybe in two nights. Most of you might as well go to your homes and get a rest before Elijah comes. If he comes tomorrow night I will phone the ones who are going.’ They all agreed and many left within the hour. In this way Rikki and Shawn also got their sanity back. It was an exciting time but also a trying time for a lot. They will return no doubt.
… Late next day many people gathered including Doctor Brad and Nurse Terrance. Most sat around waiting for Elijah and drinking tea. When Elijah did get to Rikki’s they anxiously asked him about his trip, for they saw Bean and Stew were under Rikki’s roof already? Elijah was a bit surprised as well and sat to talking of what happened.
… I got home last night and got an early sleep. Julie made me a big breakfast for this day was to be a long one for me. I had time, for the trip to Overlord’s was only going to be 2-3 hours. It went well too, and I did see some of our people. But as you people see, To my surprise, Bean and Stew are here now? Apparently they got away just after I left mansion. Well done men! We will get the rest out tonight.’
… Elijah looked about and figured, I believe Rikki is going to serve us a late dinner for we do not have to go till 10 PM, or later. This will be a night trip people.’ Elijah looked around at the people there and asked. ‘Did you all come to hear of my trip today?’ Some said ‘Yes’ and others nodded. ‘Ok here we go’ said Elijah.

Elijah Visit To Overlord’s.
… Early morning after about an hour walk, I went by Winter Mansion on Bramble Way and met an Overlord guard. I questioned ‘We haven’t seen the Overlord lately! Where is everybody?’ Guard informed, ‘Some people were taken on vacation with Overlord. Then I was invited in for eats or should I say; the guard went in for they called him and I followed. The guard did not seem to mind. Here, as I realized later, I was eating, facing the prison door!
… I lifted my fork to my mouth many times as before, but this time I looked straight ahead. I was suddenly disturbed as I saw a man with winter coat on? I asked the guard there, ‘Who are all here in this building, if Overlord took most with him?’ Guard explained ‘A few others are helping us while he is away.’ I thought, ‘With winter jackets on? It’s not that cold out?’
… As Dan guard came to table, I asked, ‘I thought you told our people that you worked at nights?’ He replied, ‘Yes well sometimes we switch places if one has other things to do in the day.’ I jeered ‘Oh, while the cat is away the mice play?’ We then heard one hollering from afar. I blurted out ‘Who is that! They sound as if in trouble?’ ‘Oh’ uttered Dan, ‘we have some old relatives of Overlord’s staying here. They are senile and make a ruckus sometimes.’ I chimed with, ‘I thank you for allowing me to eat here. I live a fair distance from here and was getting hungry.’ ‘This is better food than we eat, do you people send out for this stuff?’ The other guard answered, ‘Yes sometimes.’
… All three guards ended up at table with me, and there was more noise. The guards all got up, so I got up as well. As I turned to take my plate away, I caught sight of another guy in winter jacket. I turned back to take another look, and saw Stew glancing at me and turning away. I gasped and the guard nearest table asked ‘Is something wrong?’ I uttered ‘Oh I’m sorry, I just burped oddly. I have problems with digestion sometimes, and this was good rich food for me. My group normally eats greens.’ The guard smiled ‘Ok, I will escort you out now.’
… Elijah went nearer the door where these guys with winter jackets were, and Dan went to same area to get coffee from the table, at bottom of stairs. Another Guard looked into the room in question and ordered, ‘Quiet in there!’ Someone replied ‘No make us, We need water in here!’
… My ears were perking, and as the guard shook my hand to say bye, I heard a whisper and looked over guard’s shoulder. There was Wandering Ted mouthing, “Help us, Please.” The guard bid a goodbye and ushered me out the front door.
… My mind was a daze but I felt I should leave. I went by the small shelter next door on Sweet Ridge Way and who should I see but my Uncle Joey. I went into yard right away to get out of sight of mansion. Joey’s Wife made lunch and we sat and talked. I asked Joey to come with me to help. Joey agreed and we were off. He got his wife to follow for a bit and she is staying at a friend’s place near here. As you people see, Joey is also here among us. ‘I knew I had to meet others here later but I did not come right away. I sent Joey here for I wished to say bye to my wife and to check if all was OK.’
… Shortly after Elijah finished talking Rikki rang dinner bell and all ate a late dinner then spent another 2 hours socializing and talking various subjects. Along the way, we hear someone asking Bean and Stew how they escaped.

Bean’s View Of Escaping Mansion.
… ‘After weeks in jail, we could all hear that guards had a visitor. We started making noise so we would be fed too. I saw Stew looking out into main room then he came back. Then Ted shouted as a guard right near door called out, ‘Quiet in there!’ Ted quipped ‘No make me…’ ‘We need water in here.’ The rest of us cringed inside room. We were not ones to make waves.
… Ted went to the open door again and stood there by electric fencing. Then he came into room and went to Stew to talk. We all listened but Davie was incoherent and just staring off into space. I think it was too much for him. Then Ted whispered to Stew, ‘Elijah made contact with me.’ Then Davie came alive and disagreed saying, ‘It’s too dark in here for us to be seen.’ Ted insisted ‘No for I saw Elijah’s expressions change.’
… I (Bean) replied ‘Oh I hope so. I do not know how much longer I can hold my tongue, especially towards Dan who was going to help us with this caper? Two-timing double-crosser! I’d love to have a few words with him.’ (After a few chuckles Bean smiled and looking down. Then he went on with his story.)
… Back in our prison Ted went to bed for I guess was too stressed out. But suddenly one of the guards walked into our room. I went behind him while others were all around. Davie was in front poking guard in face. And Stew was a foot away, coming nearer and ended up punching guard to ground!’ The audience at Rikki’s uttered WOO… So Bean stopped his story and looked at Stew saying, ‘Way to go!’
… Then Bean giggled saying, ‘It was funny when Guard fell to floor, for there was Davie still poking and discussing things with the guard, but now, with thin air. Davie was in a stunned frame of mind for a bit, Poor fellow.’
… Bean went on with, ‘Speaking of stunned though, I was so shocked that Stew could do that to anyone, I just stood there and stared as many of us did. We had no idea Stew knew karate or anything like that, but we heard later he has belts in self defense.’ Bean again stopped his story and uttered to Stew ‘You saved us there!’
… Bean then uttered ‘OK, to get on with my story, …We all stared at the guard out cold on floor. All except Ted who was still sleeping. I saw Davie go to door fencing again, then he turned and commented ‘Lets put him in next bedroom. Then we can go out window there.’
… So I along with others grabbed the guard and started dragging him into other room. This same guard had come into our room but had not close the gate. I thought that was pretty clumsy of him? Meanwhile some had woken Ted and he lagged behind with Davie. At this time most others were in next room, with the knocked out guard.’
… Suddenly all heard a guard at front door hollering, ‘What are you doing out of your room?’ Stew rushed into second room where guard was lying and I passed Stew at doorway as I (Bean) went out into main room to hide. I figured the next room guards would look into, would be that second bedroom, and I was not going to stay there to await capture. I was not sure where Stew was going but I knew where I was going!’
… As the hollering guard did go into second room, I readied myself to go out back door, the very door I told Isaiah to escape through when we first got trapped. I waited and the guard came out 2 minutes later. Then he went into room further down the hall, where Dan guard was. I knew this for I followed behind guard on my way out back door. But this time, door was not armed and did not sound when it closed behind me. I felt lucky about that. Then just as I looked up to see where I was going, I saw Stew nearing the back road! I realized it was Gun Shot Trail, the road my home lot was on, So I caught up to Stew as fast as I could. We ended up here after visiting Government Lot on Sweet Ridge Way.’
… As Bean was finishing story, others started talking and stirring to get ready for the trip coming up. It was getting dark out and they were anxious to get started.

Chapter 9 … Three Wealthy Brothers.

Mansion Overhaul With Machine, (As It Happened).
… So later in evening, after exchanging info about machine that Isaiah worked out earlier, all were settling and knew what to do. So they said their byes and left to rescue Davie and Ted.
… As we see, Elijah is leading the way while Bean is dragging the Tunneler. He has it by both hands with the rope around his waist. Joey has just asked Bean if it was too heavy. I think Joey will be next to haul machine. The group stopped as Elijah said ‘OK, I feel we should cut through this orchard here, which would be a shortcut to the bridge.’
… As dusk was upon them they pick their way along to the bridge. In time Joey was in front with Elijah. Joey asked ‘Are we not in a hurry to get there?’ ‘No, we must wait till later evening when guards will be sleeping. Elijah went on with, ‘But not too late for I would like Elizabeth to talk to them.’
… Just then Stew came nearer and announced ‘Bean is getting tired, who is next to drag that thing.’ ‘Spacers’ uttered Joey, ‘I guess that would be me.’ He went back into trees where Bean had stopped out of exhaustion. ‘Oh Super Joey, let me know when you have had enough. Please do not wait as long as I have. I’m not sure how I’ll be for the actual rescue now?’
… They gathered themselves up and within 15 minutes there was the bridge partially hidden among the wild bushes along the shore. Dragging that machine across the bridge was very noisy, but mansion was in the distance so no one heard. As they got nearer they kept in the trees more and soon came into view of mansion with Stew dragging the machine.
… They went into Joey’s treed lot to collect them selves, before going next door to Winter Mansion on Bramble Way. You can see Stew looking back at Elijah saying ‘Well, this is it Sir.’ ‘Yes we will not be very long, you help Joey get the machine to east-side of mansion. That is the wall we need to dig beside, and make sure it is near front of mansion about 8 ft. or closer to front wall.’ ‘OK Sure, you can count on me!’ Elijah asked ‘Did you bring the fuel?’ Darn, Oh Yes it is right here,’ replied Stew.
… Elijah then snuck over to Elizabeth asking, ‘Please will you do us a favor?’ ‘Sure’ agreed Elizabeth, not knowing what was in store. Joey was near with arms crossed for he knew what was to happen. Elijah stated ‘I wish you to ring doorbell until guards come and answer you, OK?’ Elizabeth uttered, ‘I do not wish to make myself known!’ Elijah explained ‘This will keep the guards busy while we are trying to dig a tunnel. I will get Joey here to stay near front door. Joey, you rescue her if things sound a rye.’
… Now, Joey did not know that was coming, and commented ‘And get caught too? No way!’ Elijah stated, ‘Now this is not a team. We need your help. If not you can go home now, and I will let anyone know what happened if they ask.’
… Joey Najjar and Elizabeth Chan looked at each other, then to Elijah. There was silence then Joey resigned, ‘Yes if we have too.’ ‘Ok then, we will have a positive report for you two. If things get out of hand just run. Do not go into mansion and you have a head start, OK?’ ‘Yeah, lets get on with it.’
… The two followed the others reluctantly, in conversation at the back of the group, while they made their way to east-side of mansion. When they got to Bramble Way, Elijah stated ‘OK you two. Go to front door in 5 minutes so we have a chance to get set up. Elijah put his hands on Elizabeth and Joey’s shoulders, then said, ‘Go my people and thanks!’
… As making their way around, Elijah was right near a window that they had to pass in order to get to east-side of mansion. Apparently they had forgotten the fencing of iron around the building. Elijah turned to Stew and Bean saying, ‘One of you, please go to window and look in carefully. If there are no guards we will go by quickly.’ Bean answered ‘I’ll go.’ Stew smiled at him while Elijah instructed ‘Here is a mirror. Put it out in front of window and you stay out of sight and look in mirror. Do you know the angles?’ Bean thought and Elijah instructed, ‘Hold it away from you and building as you are against wall at edge of window. The inside of room should be visible to you through the mirror … OK Go!’
… Then to everyone’s surprise, after getting mirror lined up Bean looked in window and whispered ‘Ted and Davie are in this room?’ Elijah and Stew looked at each other in silence, then Elijah asked, ‘Are you sure? I was told it was a windowless room?’ Stew agreed, ‘It was!’ Bean stated ‘They see me, what should I do?’
… In an instant Davie and Ted were at window waving their arms. Bean put finger to mouth to shush them. He and Elijah were looking closer at window and found they could take frame out with wrench and hammer. But Bean stated ‘This will create vibrations throughout the building.’ Elijah questioned ‘Yes, but what is the floor made of? If it is concrete our best bet is to go through window.’
… They looked up and saw Ted and Davie pulling back carpet in their room and there was a wooden floor. Either way there was going to be some noise and vibration in the structure.
… Elijah kept looking at his watch, then he called ‘OK lets go! Stew, Guards may remember you. I want you to go to front near Bramble Way and keep watch, we will manage here.’ Stew wandered off a couple of yards into trees nearing front of building while Elijah gave Bean the wrench.
… They worked slowly and quietly around window as the two prisoners watched in anticipation. Once the two men chiseled away the wood at bottom of window, it started flaking off rapidly. They did not have to take window out but just loosen it at base. Ted was so anxious to get out that he had head and shoulders out of window already. Then Bean and Elijah just pulled him out of jail.
… Davie was next and Elijah told them, ‘Run, hop the fence, and get well enough away! Take those jacket off and ditch them and we will meet you back at Rikki’s home on First Place Loop.’ With tears in his eyes, Ted screeched ‘Ok!’ and they ran. Elijah went up to Stew as Bean dragged machine to back of mansion and around the long way. When Elijah found Stew in the trees he whispered, ‘Has Elizabeth rung doorbell yet?’ ‘Yes I think so. I see Joey over there.’ Elijah asked ‘Could you get his attention?’
… Stew looked about and found a pinecone and threw in Joey’s direction. This made Joey duck and looked their way. Elijah stepped out from the trees and shook his arms in air as in victory. Joey knew exactly what he meant and quietly called Elizabeth who was still ringing doorbell.
… She started towards Joey and a guard answered the door. She turned quickly to him and uttered ‘Oh, I thought nobody was home! Do you know which way I go to get to the bridge near here? In the dark I have gotten lost.’ She smiled and looked down. Guard questioned ‘Well, why don’t you come in for some food?’ Elizabeth stated ‘No, I am late as it is. Is the bridge this way or that way? As she pointed in either direction. Guard queried, ‘Well I believe it is that way.’
… Now Elizabeth knew which way it was and the guard had told her wrong. She did not let on and went the way the guard said, till she was out of sight. Joey followed her and told her, ‘The prisoners are safe!’ Then Elijah came running up to them and frantically whispered ‘Guards know prisoners escaped. Run you two as fast as you have ever run!’ They all took off in different directions. Hope they get away. We will see who gets back to Rikki’s.

Back At Rikki’s Home.
… At First Place Loop, a few hours after the group left to go to Winter Mansion, Rikki was still up and reading quietly. She was tired of waiting, for she had been up most of night. Shawn had gone to bed and came out later telling her, ‘Settle down they will be OK.’ I think he went back to bed but here is Rikki still up and reading to pass time.
… Then she heard something that did not come from Shawn’s bedroom. She got up and went to door and there was Stew all out of breath. Rikki was silent for a minute, not knowing if Stew was in trouble or just tired?
… She went on out to give Stew a hug and Stew announced ‘We were almost caught again!’ Rikki turned and had back towards him as she asked, ‘Is Joey OK?’ Just then Joey came around a tree in their yard and called ‘Hi Auntie, we are home.’ She turned to Stew saying ‘Oh good!’ With tears in her eyes she rushed in to make food, leaving Stew to usher all into home as they came.
… As more and more arrived back at Rikki’s at First Place Loop, Elijah, Stew and Joey talked to Wandering Ted in kitchen before they had eats. Elijah announced, ‘Well Ted, we went to your lot on Wild Cat Trail by Elizabeth’s directions, to pick up your Tunneler.’ ‘Oh’ replied Ted, ‘did you get the sleigh in the shed?’ ‘Yes’ stated Elijah, ‘Actually it was Isaiah who found that … after we had given up.’ ‘Oh Ha-Ha-ha. He’s a smart lad that one. I hid it so no one could take my machine. Well done!’ ‘Oh’ questioned Elijah, ‘you are not upset with that?’ ‘No-no, it’s fine, you were trying to find a way to get us out. I understand!’
… Stew stood back on one foot, for this is a different Ted than he was jailed with. Then Stew stated ‘Its good to see you in a good mood Sir.’ ‘Yes,’ agreed Ted with a big smile. ‘That is when I thought my brother had beaten me. But gents, I must say this, so I do not beat myself later. I will be leaving very soon for my homeland. I must speak to my Father and take the papers we did get, to the justice system there.’
… He turned to Bean and asked, ‘Who did you say had the box?’ ‘Oh, he is not here,’ stated Elijah. ‘I could phone him and have him bring the box over?’ Ted answered ‘No-no, wait a few hours, till dawn at least. People need their sleep.’ ‘Ok’ uttered Elijah.
… As time passed all our people were safe and accounted for, but after a few minutes some went to their own lots. A few stayed on to hear more. Ted went on saying, ‘I may go to Claire’s and ask her to accompany me to my homeland. Who would do well at running town out of you people?’ Stew commented, ‘Well there is a nurse, doctor and also a guard at Claire’s lot. They would be able to manage.’ ‘OK then, who should I take with Claire and myself? We will be gone for several days or maybe over a week?’
… The three men looked at Ted for they all had wives, and wives would give them the boot if they took off on them again, especially if it is for over a week.’ After a minute Ted asked ‘Has the cat got your tongues? Joey excused himself and went out doors, while Rikki called, ‘Eats are ready!’ Then as Ted started talking to Elijah of people chickening out, Elijah explained ‘Well no, it is that we all have wives. We have been away in rescue or in jail for several weeks now. A wife can take only so much. I myself have a girl and she is pregnant.’
… Ted smiled ‘Oh well, you stay at home.’ Then Elijah saw Elizabeth coming in front door. He stated to Ted, ‘Here is one who is a security guard and is unattached.’ Elijah called ‘Oh Elizabeth, could you talk to Ted here.’
… Ted turned and remembered speaking to this one about tunnels in his lot if war broke out. He smiled saying ‘Hi, how are you doing?’ Elijah kept quiet and winked to Elizabeth. She uttered ‘Oh, I remember you well. I took your directions to your lot, and we got that machine of yours out and brought it here. It turned out we didn’t need it after all. I’m sorry about that. Will you be OK to take it home again?’ Elijah called ‘Oh Elizabeth, could you do me one more favor?’ ‘Well,’ As she was still facing Ted, Elijah went on saying, ‘would you accompany Wandering Ted and Queen Claire to Ted’s homeland? I need to phone Isaiah and he will bring a Box of papers here, so Ted can take them back as evidence.’ As Elijah was saying this Elizabeth had turned to face him and had a big smile. He knew she did not mind at all. She turned back to Ted asking ‘OK Boss, when are we leaving?’ She went on with, ‘But just to warn you, I have no idea where this place is and nobody gave me directions either, Ha-Ha-Ha.’ Ted smiled and laughed. He smiled, ‘No this time I have the directions and I will keep them to myself. I will be the one to lead you and Queen Claire to my home. It is much more civilized there. You are in good hands. We will eat and rest before I call Claire and meet her. Then we will be off by bus and taxi. It’s a luxury trip all the way.’ Elizabeth relaxed as she uttered ‘Oh, OK whatever you say.’
… As the ones who stayed, settled down in this very early morning, they were all very tired and it got quiet, quickly. All headed for a bed and had a good short sleep.

Chapter 10 … Three Wealthy Brothers.

The Deciding Trip?.
… In late morning, at Rikki’s home on main path of First Place Loop, Elizabeth was just getting up and went out to kitchen to see what was happening. Rikki was making brunch while Shawn was reading paper. With all the people missing it was getting back to a homey environment. Ted sat quietly eating and Elizabeth joined him. He asked quietly, ‘Are you coming with us to my homeland?’ Elizabeth was interested stating ‘Of Course, so long as your Dad will not jail us? Ha-Ha-Ha.’ Ted smiled and was silent.
… After brunch Ted was on phone telling Claire they were going to his homeland today. She had expressed the wished to come to Ted’s land before. Ted announced ‘I will be calling the bus now, which will take us into Broadtown.’ Claire agreed ‘OK I’ll watch for you, thanks.’
… When Ted got off phone Rikki and others said their byes and went out to waited for bus. Elijah came from a block way, with his wife Julie. Elijah announced ‘Bean and Stew phoned me early this morning. I think they may come to wish you good-luck Sir?’
… This was an important trip for all of them. Ted’s dad was owner of these lands they were on, and most figured it was Ted’s dad who would give the last say on the winner of the contest.
… Then sure enough, just as bus pulled up, here comes Bean, Stew and Davie, all smiles and hugs, wishing Ted and group much luck. When they turned to see Ted and Elizabeth onto bus there was Queen Claire stepping off bus to say hi to all. So there was another round of hugs and wishes. Bus driver was a calm driver, which was good, for it was another good 10 minutes till they got under way.

To Fathers Land.
… The bus took us into next town, called Broadtown. Then we got a taxi and spent 5 days traveling. Ted was able to call on friends, so on some of our stops we could sleep in more comfy quarters. With only 3, accommodations were two rooms, one for Queen Claire and Elizabeth and the other for Ted. We had a good trip and have just arrived in this late morning, out front of Ted’s home in Sapherton City.
… Here we see Ted Handson, meeting father who always wore his customary wardrobe of long robes. He owns this area and is well off. They are just heading in with Claire observing father and son. She has taken a liking to Ted after all the stories told on the trip here. Most know him as solemn and serious but in the right circumstances he is full of fun. She saw a different Ted emerge on this past trip.
… Ted stopped to get paper from box on the Street of Emerald Crescent, and is taking it in to read about their town. He has been away for many years and is interested to see what is happening in his homeland. Father John Handson is delighted to see his son and did ask how Tram was. Ted sort of passed it off and said, ‘He is being himself.’ Claire heard this and realized Ted did not wish to bring dad bad news just yet, so Claire kept her mouth shut.
… The front door was wide open and Elizabeth just walked in. The kitchen area was very large and ornate. Ted’s family is very rich and Elizabeth felt she was way out of her league here. She got nervous so turned back to others. She did not know the others were still at street. She was alarmed turning to go out again. But then she saw Ted coming with paper and Queen following behind him, so she felt OK and re-entered home.
… Ted’s dad was still out on street, talking with a guy who happened by as all arrived. Elizabeth was looking at this guy in bow tie and office clothes, and looked dumbfounded. Ted commented to her as passing into kitchen, ‘Its business!’
… Before they all got into home Father excused the guy and called to Claire saying ‘Hi there!’ She turned towards street and smiled. Claire went out as Elizabeth went in to follow Ted into kitchen
… Knowing this home Ted kept going and went to living area to read paper. Elizabeth followed and sat in large expansive furniture there. In a minute Elizabeth asking Ted, ‘Where is the washroom?’ He uttered ‘Just back that way’ as he sat pointing behind himself and then continued to read paper.
… Well it was a long hallway with ornate trimming about upper walls. Each corner had a pillar effect and the floor was shiny marble. Looked like a temple or something you would see in Egyptian times. Elizabeth did finally find the washroom and you should have seen that bath tub. Wow!
… Meanwhile Father John Handson spoke to Queen Claire out front of his home. He asked, ‘You are the queen of the town my sons are staying at?’ Claire was timid not knowing this person. He was very strong and upright. She uttered ‘Yes I am.’ Father asked ‘Who appointed you the runner?’ ‘Oh it was Overlord, I mean… your son Tram.’ Father went closer and with the front door open still he asked quietly, ‘How has Tram been treating you people? Please tell me the truth!’
… Claire looked at him and could tell by his eyes that he was really wishing to know. She figures he knew his sons and wanted a non-bias report, not what his son Ted would say.
… Claire explained, ‘Well he is kind of rude.’ Father agreed ‘Yes he can be.’ Claire stated, ‘He taxes to the extreme as well.’ She felt herself getting a frown for some of her people are starving. Father queried, ‘Yes I do not know why Ted allowed Tram to take over?’ Claire whispered, ‘Well he told us why.’ ‘Oh’ queried Father, ‘is it because Tram got pushy and pushed Ted right out of position?’ Claire uttered ‘Probably, or something like that.’ Father anguished uttered, ‘Yes I know…’
… Claire could see a father standing in front of her with son problems. She could see a frustration brewing within. After a bit of silence he said to her, ‘I am a man of great wealth. I wish to spread my wealth about but the only people that I can rely upon, who will do a good job for me, are my sons. But this brings problems in itself.’ ‘Yes’ agreed Claire, ‘I can imagine.’ Claire went on with, ‘Although, may I say,’ Father bowed his head and Claire smiled and stated ‘Your son Ted is a very nice fellow.’ ‘Yes’ agreed Father, ‘But he tends to let things be, too much. Then when it is too late, he stands up and protests.’ ‘Well,’ commented Claire, ‘He just needs to pull his socks up. If someone with a backbone stood behind him, he would be a very good leader.’ ‘Yes’ uttered father, ‘I pray so!
… He looked down for a minute then announced, ‘I had another son who got killed trying to do the same things my younger sons are doing. At least Ted and Tram did not get themselves killed. Are the people rallying against, Who did you call him, Overlord?’ Then Father stated quickly, ‘I guess that answers my question, doesn’t it?’ Claire smiled and did not wish to say anything.
… With that break, Claire noticed there were people gathering out on street and chanting slogans such as. We want a real King! Corruption is two faced! Why not give us the land! Claire wrinkled her brow as looking at Father. He quipped quietly, ‘Oh someone is always complaining. You never know the truth. Next week it will be something else.’
… Father then commented ‘Just one more question please and then we can go in for eats and rest…Are you people of this small town, doing OK or struggling under Tram’s rein?’ Claire shook her head. Father put his head down and thought … ‘OK dear, we will fix that, which I’m sure is why my son came to me. Let’s go in and eat, drink and be merry.’ He came up to Claire smiling and put his arm about her ushering her in.
… When Elizabeth found her way back from washroom, Queen Claire and Father Handson had just come in front door. Father announced, ‘You people look about and I will prepare a meal for all.’ He opened the large double-door fridge and asked if anyone wished a cold drink. We could all see there was everything imaginable there, already cold for the drinking. Maybe he knew we were coming, but nobody told us that?
… Father left our group to familiarize themselves for an hour, before the meal was served. He himself gets pleasure out of cooking and preferred to cook alone, so all went their ways.
… As he was preparing the meal, Elizabeth felt she should do something. She met Claire and they decided to water the vast garden outside, which was beckoning them through the many windows.
… Shortly after that, in living area, Ted read in paper that the ruler of this Sapherton City has stepped down. And to his amazement Queen Polla Ounce was put in his place! Ted went out to kitchen asking, ‘Polla is your runner here?’ ‘Yes,’ answered Father John. ‘Queen Beth gave her much recommendation. Beth had trained Polla herself. I felt it was kind of too soon, but she has done well and is now married to Joseph Timbaly.’ Father and son discussed a few more things then Ted returned to living area to read on.
… As Elizabeth and Claire got out to garden, admiring all the variety of colors, Elizabeth heard Claire gasp as she was watering garden right outside a window. Queen just realized Father John was preparing food and was watching her. Father noticed how clam Claire always was. He was comforted in that and thought, ‘I wish my sons were as steadfast as she, but then Father saw Claire looking at him, as she started going away from window. Elizabeth asked ‘Are you OK?’ Claire turned and found an excuse saying, ‘Oh, Ted’s Dad is making dinner.’
… Now Elizabeth thought that was a strange comment, for all knew Father was making dinner? Elizabeth thought, I guess he startled her? And no more was said. Claire and Elizabeth came in from garden and just wandered around marveling at the precious-gem ornaments about the tables and walls. Father Handson had a beautiful home with very expensive things. He was obviously very rich.
… Later as they sit to eat about this large wood-grained table, Elizabeth must have said something Claire did not like? It turned out that as a keeper served them, Elizabeth could not believe the small amount they were given. She thought, Ted’s dad is rich beyond what any of us knew, and our plates were half empty. Elizabeth felt, she would have eaten this much for a snack. She explained later, ‘As I watched this server serve each person I got more riled up and finally uttered, ‘Is that all we get!’
… Then Claire turned quickly and uttered ‘sh….’ Ted looked oddly at Father as Father announced ‘Well there is lots more, but this is very filling stuff.’
… Of course, Ted knew Fathers cooking so did not notice anything wrong. He then announced to Father, ‘I have brought some papers from our town, for you to look at. Maybe later we can talk?’ Claire turned to Ted and uttered, ‘We have already talked.’ Ted furrowed his brow as Father answered ‘Yes, I will need evidence all right. Not to worry, I will go back with you and escort my son the Overlord, out of there.’ Ted uttered ‘Right on!’ Father looked at Ted seriously, then announced ‘But … I want you to keep Claire as Queen and you follow her lead to run this town of yours.’ Ted’s eyes opened wide. He uttered after a minute, ‘Mine?’ Then he muttered something else. Father looked up stating ‘Yes…if you can manage that?’ Father thought for a minute then said ‘You must be quick to make decisions though. Claire will help you with that, I’m sure.’ Claire looked at Father who glanced her way, and she smiled much.
… Now Elizabeth was watching these proceedings and saw Claire smiling at Father. She thought, so Ted is the winner of the contest? That is not fair! He only owns one piece of land and he is never there. What is this all about?
… Father went on with, ‘Now I want you people to go home tomorrow and take some of my guards.’ He turned to Claire and smiled saying, ‘Claire, you stay there and care for your town. But before you leave here, I will give you money to help the immediate problems.’ ‘Oh, thank you, I know some people who will be so grateful! Then she uttered quietly, ‘If they haven’t died yet?’ Father turned to look at her quickly with eyes wide open. ‘Is it that bad?’ ‘Well, not really’ answered Claire, ‘but I have been keeping some alive. This past week we used up all our funds even though I told Overlord a month or more ago. But he just stumbled over it and passed it off saying, ‘There are other places for them to go!’
… Father was mad, then stated ‘Boy, I know what I should do. I will send him to a valley in another area of my country and get him to civilize that area ‘By Himself.’ Then we will see who is starving!’
Well Ted did not like that and muttered something. Claire stated ‘Oh, you would not really do that would you?’ Father apologized ‘No,’ and with arms in air he continued with, ‘but what do you think I should do? He is the most stubborn and greedy of all my sons. He expects a kingdom from me!’ Father paused then uttered, ‘Which is only fair. I am of the belief that if you give one you should give all. But he over abuses his positions, where as this one finds it hard to keep the positions!’
… Ted stated ‘I do not! I feel, let live and live yourself. I am not going to fight against my brother for the land Dad!’ Claire commented ‘I do not think your dad means it in that way. He is saying you need to ask for help, not back away.’ Claire glanced to Father and he was smiling at her with much warmth. Ted stated ‘Well I did ask for help and got caught! And when I got out, I asked again for help and we are here!’ Claire looked down and went on eating. She hoped she hadn’t stumbled into an argument.
… Ted thought for a minute as all were silent, then he whispered, ‘Well I guess in the beginning I should have asked for help.’ He turned to dad who was looking at him, so Ted stipulated ‘But they were all strangers to me and I was not sure what to do.’
… Father accepted ‘OK son, I know it is hard to work with strangers. I was not there so should not judge. I do feel you are stronger though. This is good.’ Father tuned to Elizabeth and as smiling, asked, ‘And what is your excuse?’ Elizabeth replied, ‘Oh no I’m not in on this. I just helped others find the tunneling machine on Ted’s property when he was jailed.’
… Father turned to son and stated with alarm, ‘Jailed?’ Ted answered ‘Yes dad, Jailed!’ Father was more subdued and commented ‘OK people, if you wish more please help yourself, I am going to leave you now and go think things through. Ted, do you have the box Claire talked of?’ ‘Oh yes, it is here dad.’
… He got up and handed the box to Father from the chair beside him. He then stated, ‘My friends Bean and Isaiah were the ones who retrieved that box from Overlord’s. Isaiah got away but Bean and I were jailed.’ Dad looked at Ted and whispered ‘Ok dear, thanks.’ And he went into his quarters for several hours leaving the rest to settle down. They settled for the night and got some sleep.
… In the morning Father John phoned police patrol and ordered 5 guards to go with Ted. He talked on phone to a guard and gave him instructions. Ted just has to get guards to their town, for these guards work for Father Handson and know what he wishes by experience.
Claire was listening to Father’s conversation and even though it was only one sided she was picking up something strange? Father stated, ‘Well, I wish I could do that, but it is beyond my jurisdiction.’ After a minute he stated, ‘I said NO! I am not of the Birthright. It Is Out Of My Hands!’ Soon after that he hung up.
… Claire was puzzled. What was this about? And who were those people chanting outside last evening. She glanced out front windows, and the people were not there now. But she was still puzzled. Maybe she would find out more from Ted?
… After phone call Father turned to Ted who was now standing near him. Father consoled, ‘I wish you a safe journey back to your home.’ He hugged him and sent him on his way. He spoke to all of them, on way down his front walk. The travel bus waiting for them had picked up the guards before coming here. Father John instructed, ‘You people fix things up in your small town then we will talk of rewards. I am with you on this and always have been.’ He shook some hands and wished them luck.
… Father went to talk more to the one guard on bus, for this guard was a good friend and he had guarded Father John many times. Ted as getting into bus heard Father say to this guard, ‘Give Tram Royal Treatment #24, before you bring him back to me, OK?’ ‘Oh, I’m sure some of the people there will appreciate that.’ stated Guard.
… Ted and our gang didn’t know what they meant, but nothing was said as they traveled home for those 5 long days. Our people tried to chat with the guards but they took an oath of silence, I guess? Claire even tried to get out of Ted what the problem was with his father, for Claire knew Ted heard that phone call as clear as she did. But again, She could not get an answer from him.
… Claire eventually stopped trying and figured whatever the guards had Ted must have caught as well. Maybe it was a family thing? She also noticed that the guards seem to gathered about Ted as if protecting him. But she figures he is the son of a very rich man who is probably a King. But within her mind she could not deny, that on this trip a cloud seemed to have gathered about Father. Claire wishes she could solve it, but for now our people are relaxing and happy, for they are on their way home.

Chapter 11 … Three Wealthy Brother.

Back From Sapherton.
… As they approached Claire’s government home on Sweet Ridge Way, Ted uttered ‘Cool, there is Nurse Terra and Guard Tommy waiting for you in your yard. Ted went on with, ‘I will go with the guards to Mansion and see that things are settled there, then I will be back.’ Claire agreed saying, ‘Yes that is a good idea. Will you be back this day?’ ‘I’m not sure,’ answered Ted, ‘What time is it?’ Claire looked at her watch and said ‘It is 2:30 PM.’
… Then the bus stop and Ted announced ‘I will maybe spend the night in mansion but I’ll be back early tomorrow.’ As Claire waved bye, bus went on down main path. She is looking forward to helping Ted be a good town runner.
… When Claire got in, She told Terra and Tommy news of the fact that, Father Hanson told Ted to run town. Tommy uttered ‘What! He has almost no property.’ Nurse was near and stated ‘Well, Ted is the son of the owners. At least we are moving onward.’ Tommy did not agree stating, ‘Yes but that was to be a contest. Good Heavens! Some people came just for the contest. That’s not fair!’ Claire agreed, ‘Yes I know.’ Tommy went on saying, ‘Well, did Ted’s father look as if he was a sane man or is he part and parcel with his son Tram?’ ‘No’ answered Claire, ‘He is a very upstanding fellow and knows his stuff.’ She paused then stated ‘But I do remember… Claire went on with, ‘There was a strange phone call. Father was talking about jurisdictions and that, he did not have the right to do something.’ Claire paused then replied ‘I don’t know? There is something strange about all this.’ ‘Well’ stated Nurse, ‘if Father wants Ted to run this town I guess we are in that boat. From what we know, Ted is better than his brother Tram.’ ‘Yes,’ uttered Tommy as he was deep in thought. Then he came out of it and replied, ‘Well I will protect my two ladies here no matter what happens. You can count on me.’ Claire smiled and Terra turned stating ‘Yes, that will be good thanks. If we have your assurance we will feel more secure.’ As Terra smiled with arms in air, she uttered ‘It’s onward and upward.’ Nurse went on with, ‘Brad would be here as well, if there were troubles. In fact if it came to troubles, we should vacate this home and go to where Brad lives. I’m not sure, was it not just a little ways from here?’ Claire commented, ‘Yes that is what they told me. I should phone him and see how he’s doing. Tommy agreed ‘Yes, but right now you need to rest. You must be tired after that long trip? I will make food and we will eat a good lunch.’ ‘Sounds good.’ agreed Claire. ‘I need to get out of these shoes and take a shower.’ ‘OK’ chimed nurse, ‘You go get showered and we will make food and watch TV. The winter programs of the near towns should be on now. They have been warning us for a while.’
… So as Tommy guard makes lunch, the ladies met in TV room and rested for a moment on couch. Nurse grabbed Claire’s hand and consoled, ‘Its nice to have you back. Everybody is in anticipation as to your return and to Overlord’s return from holidays within this week. I’m getting nervous. Do you have any idea of what he may throw at us next?’
… Claire consoled ‘Do not worry. Grant it, he may throw another 500-Tax bill and maybe we have to give him penalty taxes on top of that, but it will not last long. We have bumbled through that before… Remember that the guards are taking up residence in mansion, until Tram comes back. Then most of his old guards will be told to go to Father’s home in Sapherton, to get their next orders. Or that is what I heard.’ ‘Yes’ said Nurse Terra, ‘but I hope he does not decide to kill someone.’ They were interrupted by the call for lunch, and later all settled down for an early afternoon nap.

We follow bus to Winter Mansion with Handson’s Guards
… Bus took only 10 minutes to drop Ted and Father’s Guards off at Bramble Way. In front yard as the afternoon sun warmed their backs, Guard One stopped and stated, ‘You can go on your way now if you wish Ted? We are here and we will settle and prepare for Overlord’s return.’ ‘Yes I guess so, but I wish I could help you more.’
… Ted stated, ‘Overlord has another lot somewhere but he usually uses that in summer time. It is days away at other end of this valley on First Place Loop.’ ‘Oh’ uttered Guard. ‘Well keep us posted. Please send out notices to let us know if Tram comes back to Summer Mansion, OK…’ Ten replied, ‘Yes, I will take you there as well. But I think it will be here that he would stay. This is the bigger place and was the place we were jailed in for a time.’
… Ted went on with, ‘Now being back here, Holy! I think I will go home again, thanks.’ ‘Sure’ agreed Guard One. ‘We can take care of things here.’ Guard One turned quickly and whistled, for the bus was just taking off. Guard turned to Ted and called ‘OK run for it.’ Ted uttered ‘Thanks’ and ran. He got on safely and headed back to Government lot to reside with Claire.
… Ted had to console himself while on that bus, though it was only a 10-minute trip. But when Ted got to Overlord’s property, all the past memories of the jailing came back as if they were yesterday. It overpowered him and he was glad to get out of there.
… As the bus was leaving Guard One waved Ted bye, but he heard talking inside mansion and hurried in. There were the three old guards and the four new guards. New guards told old to go to Sapherton to get their paychecks and get new orders. There was a few words and at first they did not wish to go. Dan Guard decided to go, for Father Handson was their district manager and would fire them on the spot. So as the three old guards left, the new ones settled in to wait Overlords return. We leave them now, sitting on the couch reading, to brush up on their ambush techniques.
… As Ted arrived for second time at government lot on Sweet Ridge Way, the ladies were still in conversation. As they paused, they heard someone coming and went out front. There was Ted returning and Claire was surprised but very pleased and spoke of life and its many fascinating avenues. They had more conversations through dinner and on into the evening.
… In one conversation, Ted asked Tommy if he had a girl yet. ‘Oh no, my job is more important. I am protecting a Queen and that is good enough for me!’ As these people settled down we will leave them to get a restful night.

We now follow bus to Rikki’s home.
… At an earlier time Elizabeth had asked Rikki if she could stay at her home. It is closer to her work and she feels, right now she needs company. Well the bus has just dropped Elizabeth off at First Place Loop and she was glad to be home. She told Rikki and Shawn of the fact that Ted was running this town now. They were a bit alarmed, for Najjars should be the winners! They do have the most land of this area. Rikki said ‘Well at least you are safe.’ ‘Yes’ agreed Elizabeth. ‘I wished to come to someplace I knew. Overlord will be back in a few days and I would rather be with others.’ Rikki asked ‘Yes but you’re a cop or guard, right?’ ‘As sure as shootin.’ Rikki went on with, ‘This town would need people as you, very soon. Go to work from here and when Overlord is gone please continue working to bring in money, OK.
… Shortly after they got Elizabeth settled, Rikki phoned daughter Mona and now she has just arrived. Well, Elizabeth was happy to see her. She commented, ‘I’ll be staying here for a while so you can come over and visit. How is Bean?’ ‘Oh he is fine, thanks. He’s at worked but I took this day off, for not feeling too good. Now that I know you are back from Ted’s homeland, I feel better. My stomach gives me problems when I get nervous.’ Elizabeth stated, ‘Well Government Nurse is visiting here now and you should talk to her about that. She gives herbal stuff for those complaints. She is just inside eating a snack before they leave.’
… The people gathered about the table and it was like a party. After a bit some had to work. Later the others relaxed in front of TV before they settled down for the night.

Overlord Returns (Unknowingly).
… At Rikki’s next day, they had to go to market to get more seeds. It was very early in morning for Rikki and Shawn work nights. They had phoned to go to market and were out front on First Place Loop waiting for bus, when Elizabeth heard something. She turned and there was Overlord walking among the trees at front of Chaudhry’s property.
… Elizabeth turned back to Rikki and Shawn in alarm. ‘Oh my god!’ she frantically whispered, ‘Quick hide!’ As she pushed Shawn around a near evergreen shrub. They hid as Elizabeth commented nervously ‘Overlord is right there. I think he is going to your door. Did you lock your door?’ ‘Yes’ uttered Shawn. They waited nervously to see Overlord come into sight. (They live near Overlord’s Summer Mansion so he must be home already! What to do?)
… Sure enough just as bus pulled up to give our group a ride, Overlord went to ring doorbell. ‘What does he want!’ squealed Rikki. Elizabeth ordered ‘Just get on bus, now!’ ‘OK-OK’ screeched Shawn. Last they saw, Overlord was standing waiting for someone to answer their door. They kept down in bus as bus drove away. Overlord saw bus but our people hoped he did not see them. They will call with this report right away.
… Our three spent some time at market on city side of river. They asked Bus driver to take them there, for they knew government lot was near that area. They visited Queen Claire to let her know what was happening for they do not wish to go back home unless they had help.
… Queen Claire ordered ‘You people stay here.’ Elizabeth stated ‘I have been a cop for many months and know Karate skills. I feel I would be of importance to come with you.’ Claire looked at Tommy guard and one of Father’s guards who happened by a bit ago. Guard One agreed that there would not be a problem. They knew Overlord was without his men or they presumed so. Ted commented ‘We could take the bus and just pass by Rikki’s if possible. If we see Overlord still there, we could nab him and take him to mansion.’ Elizabeth turned to ask Rikki, ‘May I use your phone to phone work?’ ‘Sure.’ and they prepared for an active day.
… As our ambush group got to Rikki’s lot, there was Overlord snooping about. Our group saw furniture off to one side, but did not pay much attention to it. The guards asked Queen Claire to stay out of way, but she was right in there. Then Ted saw another coming and they slipped among the trees in front yard.
… It was a helper and Guard One spoke to him. He was just hired-help
of Overlord but our people do not realize that, this helper has just helped Overlord move all the furniture out of Rikki’s home.
Meanwhile Tommy and Ted went up behind Overlord as he was watching Father’s Guard talk to helper. They grabbed Overlord and put a gun to his ribs. There was a bit of a struggle and Guard One turned and was right there holding other arm of Overlord. They practically had to drag him to bus while he was screaming. ’I did nothing wrong … You are to obey me! … This is my town you’re infiltrating.’ He turned his head to Tommy and stated, ‘Your queen is toast and you better find another job … You are through… You were to protect me! Trader! … My guards will get all of you…’ Guard One asked Overlord, ‘Oh and where are your guards?’ Ted asked, ‘At your summer lot? Come, let’s go there now Sir!’
… They got Overlord under wraps and told Shawn and the ladies to stay here at Rikki’s. ‘Ted stated ‘Guards will go to Summer Mansion and take some back to Father’s in Sapherton. Overlord will be at market for the next week or so. If you have anything you want to say, go to market.’ Ted then announced ‘I will be back later tonight.’ The 4 men went into bus, and as it took off, Shawn and ladies entered Rikki’s. They were shocked to find no furniture or food inside. They waited there patiently, and tried to phone the right people.

Bussing Overlord.
… The guards had to transport Overlord by the bus they came on, and they made a stop to market. At Joe’s Market on Market Lane, Guard One phoned Father to talk of situation, simply because Overlord was spewing off all these legitimate comments. These guards knew the laws but had to back track for a minute. The fact is, at that point Overlord did nothing wrong that they could see. Guards did not have a specific reason to nab him. Thus after explaining things to Father, he told them to let him go! Father John said, ‘It is better to get both of them at once, the wife as well. There are too many guards unaccounted for and there may be an ambush on the wrong people.’
… After phone call, Guard One went back to bus and they drove for a while to settle Overlord down. Then they let him off bus where nobody lived. They told him they were sorry, and he had done nothing wrong. Guards knew it was a risk, for Overlord would probably retaliate.
… Later when it got back to the guards, that Rikki’s home was emptied of all furnishings, there was another phone call. Then the guards had a reason to pursue Overlord’s capture.

Nabbing Overlord at Summer Mansion.
… Early next day, Wandering Ted and Handson’s Guard One, along with 3 official cops, met at front door of Overlord’s Summer Mansion on First Place Loop. After scouting outer premises, they found that this was the only entrance to the building. So if Overlord and wife were within, they were trapped. All our group had to do was walk in and they had them.
… It was very early morning and you can see Overlord just standing there stunned. The cops that were gathering with others, were the cops that worked for Overlord. He had figured his cops were about town doing their jobs as norm. But on this day there were no cops seen on the premises, to protect their leader. His own kind had turned against him, what a shock!
… As the guards gathered, Handson’s Guard One stated ‘Now we take him prisoner.’ Guard One turned to Overlord and explained, ‘This is an arrest for the robbery of Rikki’s home at First Place Loop.’ As this was taking place, other guards scouted inside mansion, where nobody else was found.
… Guard One arranged for two cops to take Wife to Fathers right away, while Guard One with Ted, will take Overlord to market, to sit out a week there. Father John Handson’s ‘Punishment Plan #24.’
… Out front of mansion, Ted has just phoned for bus to go to market while Overlord is reading paper to pass time. Guard One has all under control. He has ordered backup to accompany him to market so Tommy and Ted can return to Claire’s home later. Overlord was quiet, for he knows Guards will take him back to Fathers, or so he figures. As Mansion was locked up all got on bus. First stop is market, then take Wife to Sapherton Justice System.

Punishment # 24.

… Now at Joe’s Market along Market Lane, Overlord sits as passer-byes can say anything they wish. The two guards check to see that he is sitting in the small fenced area and quiet. They have tied his hands and taped his mouth so he cannot respond physically or verbally. The commoners were encouraged to say whatever they wished.
… Many came and many were relieved within, just to speak their piece for having their lives ruined here. Guards allow half an hour to those long-winded people.
… Through rain or shine, Overlord had to sit in the open. The guards could duck under roof of market if heavy rains came and with two guards they got many breaks. Ted often stayed with the guard on duty, for he wished to monitor and see his brother safely into Father’s hands. Ted did not know what Father was going to do about Tram, but once Tram was out of Ted’s area, their little town could start over.
… On this day you can see, Tram has had it and is leaning over in despair. There had been some nasty things said and the worst came from, of all people, Queen Claire. Of coarse, she saw and knew the worst results, for the people came to her, at their ropes end. She was able to give a bit of food and sometimes a bit of seed money, but she had to turn many away, for Overlord did not replenish her supply even when asked. This was heart wrenching to her and much was brewing within.
… Well, she went to market several times but did not find the guts to spew forth. But one day she was very tired and it was cold and raining. With that, she just opened up and screamed for 10 minutes. She is the talk of the town among the commoners now. She said things that others dare not say, in case Overlord would retaliate. Overlord had a more than normal shocked-look on his face, by the time Claire was through that day.
… At the height of her screaming, two commoners came over and were hitting Overlord with hoes, so much so that the guards had to come and halt the situation. It was quiet an ordeal for most, but as all settled down and the people stopped coming, guards took Overlord away to Father’s land, never to be returned.
… Maybe he will find himself in that valley, ‘by himself?’ Or maybe Father will let him take his wife? Either way, if people choose to learn the hard way, life has many ways to teach.
… A few weeks later there was a notice posted in the 5-page paper and delivered through the mail. It spoke of a reunion for all to attend. Meeting would be held in the Eastern Summer Mansion early in day and in the West Winter Mansion in later afternoon. Come one and all, with empty stomachs.

CHAPTER 12 … Three Wealthy Brothers.

Father Handson’s Visit.
… About a week ago Father had sent notices of a reunion to all in valley. Now Father John Handson is here in his white and purple robes. The leading people of this valley have gathered on this lot so they could give Father a tour and tell him what is happening.
… Claire was absent today for some reason but Elizabeth was there and went up to Ted to ask, ‘How are you?’ Elizabeth felt a kin to Ted and it has been several weeks since the rescue trips in their small village. These two see eye to eye in a lot of things for she is very smart and into politics, as he. Although Elizabeth is not of royalty, Ted has found his way to confide in Elizabeth more than once.
… You can see father with hands on hips. Maybe he felt Elizabeth was too bold, for she was being a bit close with Ted. Ted did not know what to think in his long white over gown. These people are all in best wear for this special occasion. They figure this is when Handson was going to tell them who owns the town.
… They had phoned bus to go to Summer banqueting hall that Father Handson had reserved for the party, but this trip was to be a major study for Father. He has come, so to meet and know the people of this town. Then he can place the people where they would best be suited. Let’s follow and see what he thinks.
… Father was taking note of Isaiah and how he seems elf-like in his vest with white shirt and jeans. Not dressed well and was going to settle for farming on his lot with sis Mona. But he was the one who got away from jail! Was it by luck? He may be Wimpish but he offered to help others on own. He was also the one who came through to find sleigh, for the machine at Wandering Ted’s. Although not too smart job wise, he cares for people and has now found Milly.
… As they all stand about phone in the grass of this lot, father also noticed Princess Cleo. She has a bit of an ego but holds herself tall. She is brave and a bit outgoing. Very much a loner but did help Cindy, one of her group. She did well with money and has always done well in law enforcement. She also loves cats and had a unique companionship with hers.
… Bus eventually came and all got on. Father and son sat together so father got much info from Wandering Ted. For with Ted’s wanderings he gleaned much info on who was where and what was transpiring. By the time Father got to eastern Banqueting hall he had a short history of the people in this valley.
… As they got to this eastern hall, Father noticed that Stew was first to enter. He is a prince and can be very outgoing but also is shy in ways. He does not put on airs, and maybe is not quite ready to lead. He tends to cater to his queen mother most. On the other hand is Handson’s son Ted. He has a very determined walk in his long white robe and in past, this is what Claire saw in him to make her say OK, to his plans.
… Father Handson caught up with Stew and as he talked of why this party Stew was humble and somewhat shy. I feel he has not had much exposure to higher-ranking society, although his mother is a queen. But remember, all these people left their land for some reason. Why?
… Mother Cite seems to be preoccupied with her age at times. She should not be out hiking or going out on rescue trips, for at her age etc. Maybe her mother died young? Maybe she had a long illness? Something has made Queen Mother Cite, leery of old age.
… We look to Stew with Father again. In conversation Stew uttered ‘Who Me!’ Father must be asking him if he would be king here? Stew went on talking of the party just the same, and they did get on well. I think Stew and Father John are very much alike in temperament. Father has a lacking side in him too, which has made him a bit hesitant.
… Ted was seen filling his face with the finger foods that were brought in for the party, while Stew and Father walked side by side to another area. When Ted saw this he was a bit concerned. He does not know who will run this place or what will happen, but Father seems to be more interested in the other people here. Is Ted out of luck?
… Stew decided to play chess while most others were in washroom area. The musician Father hired to play at the party; is in people’s way. But what is this? Cleo is right up against him, being fresh with him? Elizabeth had turned her back to them and thought, is this a game, maybe to get the musician to move? I would not put it past Cleo, to play a bit of a game.
… When Father and Stew came to the washroom area they did not go near that scene. Both went to another washroom. Shows both are smarter than the average. No sheep in these two, they are much alike.
… Then Elizabeth, in her lovely long blue-designed dress, accidentally walked in on Father Handson. He started talking sports to her but she put her hands in air, for not into sports much. She prefers sailing for talked of such. This got father deep in thought. If I have my son pursue what I wish, this lady may be good for him after all. (She likes to travel).
… Elizabeth tends to confide in people often and here she is confiding in Father John. She asked ‘Please do not say too much to your son, but I think I wish to be with him. I know he is shy and may run if I say anything at this point, but I like him and his quirky ways.’ Father looked wide-eyed at her and uttered ‘Ha-Ha, Oh that is what it is all right. Quirkiness! Ha-Ha.’ He got a charge out of that. She was dressed in a beautiful gown, which Father took a liking to. It looks like these two would get on well, maybe even better than Father and Son
… In another area Ted went back for more dipped and broccoli, while Elijah talked to the parrot near. I think Ted is nervous or something. Why is he hounding the food counter? He is very nicely dressed for him and his hair is cut and pulled up off his face. He is handsome in his way, all right. Then Father walks by Stew playing chess and does not seem to see him. Father is on his way to the fortune counter to be exact. The talk with Elizabeth must have stirred something within. He is not sure and is going for help. Well dad, you should let things be, to happen as they will. You cannot stop destiny.
… Later after Ted ate more, he saw Elijah standing by the parrot and called saying. ‘How’s the party?’ Elijah went to him and they talked of life’s possibilities. Ted is concerned about what Father will have him do, for Ted knows, the trip to civilize this valley was a test to show father what his sons were made of. After being rescued from jail by others, well! with this Ted confided to Elijah, ‘I am nervous for I do not wish this kingdom to be given to another.’ Elijah stated, ‘Well I am not a prince but your dad has no right to substitute another higher-class person in place of family. The land should go to family in my mind.’ Ted smiled and agreed ‘Yes, but I do not know about Father. Sometimes he does strange things.’ Ted went on with, ‘He is not a King you know?’ ‘Oh!’ uttered Elijah, ‘I thought he would be? Did he get this land because he is rich?’ ‘No, not really’ replied Ted. ‘It was family stuff.’ Elijah looked puzzled stating ‘Well, if His father was a King, he has to be a King.’ ‘No replied Ted, ‘it was my mother who was of royalty. On my father’s side they were just in the know and could handle large occasions. My father is not too good, even at that.’ Elijah looked more puzzled and asked, ‘Then why is your dad owner of these vast lands?’ Ted answered, ‘Because mother was a queen of a long line of queens and she wished to marry my father, for he was not stuffy and did not put on airs.’ ‘Wow’ emphasized Elijah. ‘So what does that make you? It should make you the air of this Kingdom, right?’ ‘Well’ uttered Ted. Elijah questioned ‘You mean your brother Tram is air?’ ‘Well Yes, but I do not think, that will be so.’ ‘No’ commented Elijah, ‘I would hope not. We would all be in trouble then. We would have to move very far to get out of his reign.’ Then Ted saw his Father coming closer saying ‘Sh… Dad is near.’ Elijah uttered ‘Right! But you are a King?’ Ted smiled and shrugged his shoulders, turning away without saying a word. Father went to games area while Ted left Elijah who was observing the food.

… I think Elizabeth is hung up on Ted, for we turned towards back of hall and there she is, looking out washroom door at Ted coming closer. Ted noted she was watching him and he smiled with puzzlement as he went to sit in chess table area. There He saw Stew who was still playing chess and went over. Ted could see Cleo along with Isaiah involved with musician. This is destiny, for Cleo cannot talk to most when occupied with others? As Ted played chess with Stew, he stating ‘Oh, I will win this!’ I think Ted was showing off a bit for he knew Elizabeth was right there watching him. He went on with, ‘I know about strategy. My dad used to have my brothers and I play all the strategy games, and we had contests. I often won while my brother Tram would have temper tantrums. We had a traumatizing childhood sometimes.’ ‘Really’ uttered Stew. Stew became concerned and thought, Why is Tram not nice and Ted very nice, if they went through same sort of things when young? Could this nice kind exterior of Ted’s be a front? They went on playing and Ted was very competitive. He definitely is a leader, thought Stew. He is going to win. I see that. He would make a better leader than I. Oh darn! Stew was a bit put out for he prided himself on his chess games. But chess is a game, Stew!
… As that was going on Elizabeth was on her way to fortune booth. She is confused as well. Her fortune was…’When it rains it pours. Your future looks hazy. Maybe you should quit while you are ahead… She will try again for she did not like that answer. The next time it said… ‘There is more to life than what is in books.’ … Then it asked for more money. Greedy! With that, Elizabeth was even more confused, so she went for food.
… You can still see Ted and Stew playing chess. They must have started a new game, and here comes Father to meet Elizabeth again. He announced ‘I will put in a good word to Ted for you.’ She smiled much saying ‘Thanks. It is his choice though, but I would help him any way I could. I would be a guard for him or help with legal stuff. I was a Campaign worker for a few years as well. I know what the laws are Sir!’ ‘Yes’ agreed Father, He felt she was trying to get his attention as much as his sons? Why? I guess if you sell yourself to the parent, you have the son.
… Then Stew and Ted finished chess and Ted was watching Elizabeth winding her way to him with a smile. Elizabeth asked how he was and he was quite tickled that she wished to know. He commented, ‘I am kind of tired for not much is happening here. Where are the other people of town? I thought this was supposed to be a party for all?’ ‘Yes’ uttered Elizabeth. ‘That is strange. Your dad is just talking to all here. Do you know why we are here?’ ‘No’ said Ted, ‘my dad works in mysterious ways sometimes.’ Couple minutes later Elizabeth commented, ‘Well he has talked to me several times. He seems to wish to know us well. Maybe he will say what he wishes us to do later.’ ‘Oh, that may be it’ agreed Ted. ‘I’d like to go home though. It’s nice to relax in your own place.’ ‘Yes’ chimed Elizabeth. ‘Some people can be out with others and keep going and going but not me. I can’t wait sometimes, to get home to familiar ground, just to be myself.’ Ted smiled.
… After talking to Elizabeth he excused himself and went to washroom area where the musician is still blocking the door. He asked ‘Hey, do you wish money for your work here or something?’
… Father sat down at a chess table near, as Elizabeth did the same. Father saw Ted looking at them and he got up and asked, ‘Ted could we see you over here?’ Elizabeth put her head down in shock of what dad was going to say. Father stepped towards son and gave him a hug saying in his ear, ‘Elizabeth here will be of big help to you. Befriend her please. This is not a command though.’ Ted chimed ‘Well I know Elizabeth! She was the one who went for Tunneling machine to rescue us from jail. She followed my instructions well. I know she would help me much if I asked her… Dad I know this?’ Father said, ‘She has specified a little more than help to me.’ Ted stopped hugging dad and with eyes wide open, quietly uttered ‘Really?’ Ted went on with, ‘Well, even on the trip to our homeland she was always like a sister to me. The wind is blowing a different direction?’ Father commented, ‘I guess so?’ ‘Cool’ uttered Ted, ‘Thanks.’ Dad then went and sat down. As he passed Elizabeth he winked at her.
… Then Ted acknowledged her standing there and she came closer to talk. She talked of being in the spotlight with many watching. Ted explained ‘Well I am used to that. My mother was a queen and so my brother or I are airs to the throne.’ Elizabeth asked ‘And your father is a King?’ ‘No-No’ uttered Ted. Elizabeth questioned ‘Oh, That’s why the slogans out front of your dad’s place.’ Ted was puzzled. He did not recall that. He said, ‘Oh somebody is always complaining of something.’ with that Elizabeth relaxed for she had been quite uptight over that trip. She went because she was carrying out Ted’s wishes. Back then she did not have feelings for Ted but now is a different story. The events had had a chance to amalgamate within her mind to form a conclusion. She always looked kindly upon him from start. That he, what she thought was a king or at least a prince, would confide in her things that were quiet personal. She does the same sort of thing and this rang a bell unknowingly, till now.
… Suddenly Father Handson got up and went to phone. Are they getting ready to go on tour? As Ted saw Father leaving he talked to Elizabeth of red tape. He confides in her that he is not to good at business. ‘Not to worry’ uttered Elizabeth. ‘I have been in Campaign work and am a cop of a higher standard. I am usually very good at figures. If you ever need help just say so. I would be very happy to keep your books Sir.’ Elizabeth went on saying, ‘When you are in a top position it is very hard to live a normal life. Everybody knows you too well.’ ‘Yes but you get used to It.’ interrupted Ted. ‘You just need quiet times when nobody knows what you are doing. Life must be more secretive in some ways. We can manage that.’ ..Ted stopped, then explained ‘I mean, it is possible to do! I watched my mother and her life. She would just hide in a room with no windows and read a variety of books. She had a room that nobody, not even father could go into. ‘Her little room!’ You just need something as that.’ Ted went on with, ‘Another thing you should do is, not talk much of your life. Just give peoples what they wish and no more. Let them figure you out. Never tell all. The more secrets you have the more mysterious you are.’
… Elizabeth was engrossed in this and agreed, ‘Yes I can see that. Thanks.’ She felt Ted was with her now and she had to think of what life would be like with him under the spotlight. She also thought, he will be very rich. I could buy whatever I wished. I would have to get many gowns, for this is the best of the very few I have. She thought of Yasmin making dresses for her. She wandered off thinking a mile per minute.
… Now we see Cleo, who was able to talk to Stew for a bit. She explained, ‘I am trying to balance things out. May I ask if you have a bow?’ She said this, for she did not see a wimp as she felt Stew was before. Stew was happy to speak to her for he always had looked up to her for her strength. They chatted well for knew of each, especially since being of the same group. She looked like a Queen in her gown of red-and-white. Beautiful most elegant gown Stew had ever seen. She seemed much more interested in how he was doing. Stew could not figure this out. What is she up to? She went on saying. ‘We can put this city on the map you know? We just need to build some nice buildings and this will draw the people to our village. Then it will be a town and the rest is history.’
… Cleo then asked, ‘Are you going to run this place or is Ted?’ Stew stated, ‘I was talking to Ted and I think he will take over here.’ ‘Gees are you sure?’ asked Cleo. ‘There is Claire and our Mother as well.’ Stew answered ‘No, Mother Cite has stepped aside.’ Cleo responded with a ‘Gee Whiz, why is that?’ Stew commented, ‘She is not feeling well lately.’ Cleo replied, ‘I did not hear of this?’ Stew stated ‘She does not know you people well. I being her son, she talks to me. You know how that is?’ ‘Yes’ agreed Cleo. ‘That is too bad.’ Cleo went on with, ‘Well Claire and Ted are running this area now but that may change. If you think Ted will be it, we will have to go elsewhere if either of us wish to rule? All I know is the town next door, where I work, but that is a small town too.’ ‘Well’ uttered Stew, ‘Elizabeth talked to me about Broadtown. It is a large city and has no King or Queen that I know of.’ Cleo agreed ‘Sure, maybe we could go there sometime. Could you show me where this place is?’ ‘Well not right now, I think we should cater to Ted’s father till he leaves. He is our true leader at this point. I wish not to burn my bridges just yet.’ Cleo smiled sheepishly ‘Yes, I get too carried away sometimes. Sorry. Let’s see what Father is saying to Ted.’
… They all wandered over to a large table with the sound of a bell. There was a party atmosphere and Father John Handson stood at the head of the table, with son Ted beside him. They waited in silence while others came to join in, including Uncle Joey Najjar and Jeff Turko who had just arrived. Then a delivery person came with two cakes and out came party attire for all. As everyone adorned with party stuff and settled, three people in long robes came in and stood in front of Ted, giving him a crown and a jewel-studded sash for about his shoulders. All was silent and Father John announced that Ted his son, is the air of Handson’s Properties. A big day for Ted and as he blew out the candles he had tears in his eyes. After a bit of cake and a few cheers he went to Elizabeth asking for her help. She hugged him whispering, ‘Certainly. I will be by your side as much as you wish.’
… Jeff went by Father who chimed ‘Oh Hi. Who are you Sir?’ ‘I am Jeff Turko of Elizabeth’s parent group.’ ‘Oh Elizabeth is a good lady, thanks for coming!’ replied Father Handson. ‘Yes Sir, my wife and I did not get too involved. We did not fair well in the land owning department, so we just stepped aside. The others of our group went their ways and Elizabeth has kept us up to date. My wife could not be here today for we have a small child.’ ‘Well’ uttered Father, ‘That is good enough for me. You are making your town grow just by growing another human. Is it a boy or girl?’ ‘Oh it’s a boy.’ replied Jeff. Father replied, ‘Well who knows who he will become. Even a good farmer will be of great importance to your town for the next 20 years. Towns take a long time to mature.’ ‘Yes Sir. I will just get some cake here. I am starved.’ ‘Oh sure’ agreed Father, ‘This is good chocolate cake….He paused then explained, It is my son Ted who will run my territories for me. It was a hard decision but I have made up my mind. That is basically why I am here now.’
… Jeff commented between full mouths, ‘Oh, I thought you were going to appoint a leader for here.’ ‘Well’ replied Father, ‘There are a few who would do a good job. I will leave that mainly to your people to figure out.’ ‘Really!’ uttered Jeff. ‘Yes’ agreed Father, ‘who do you have bids on?’ ‘Well, Stew is good but Claire and your son have been keeping OK watch the last bit.’ Father smiled, ‘Yes but my son will be very busy now. He will come by here often I’m sure, his friends are here after all. But it will have to be other than he. He will make his decision, talk to him.’ ‘OK’ uttered Jeff and went for more cake.
… After the cake ceremony a large meal was served and as we scan table area we note that Isaiah and Elijah Najjar are in one corner. Being brothers they often stick together. They make a good team too. Isaiah would make a good farmer and Elijah is a good leader and organizer. Uncle Joey behind Father is pleased just to be near the one that gave them the right to live here these last few years. Some people like the Chaudhry-Najjars, have been here for many years but most have been here only 8-10 months. Jeff and his group were here later but Elizabeth ended up by being a key player. Good for her! Is it luck? No I feel fate more than anything. Whatever makes the wheels turn well. Then there is Sharon, Joey’s new wife. She is part of Para Group but they were here too late so all they could do was help the others. Many of them did, for instance …Bean rescued Mona Najjar and had a key position in Mansion rescue, after being jailed himself. Quite a story!

… We take another angle of this group and see again, as many times before, Ted is talking to Stew. These two seem to be drawn and I feel, since the one Ted picks to run this town of his Kingdom, should get along with him to be in unison, Stew may be the best bet. Ted does not know yet, that this is his responsibility. We only heard this a bit ago from father talking to Jeff. I’m sure Father will tell son soon, for Ted will have to travel with Father throughout their land. Ted has to know 50 some odd towns in his territory, and that is a lot of people. Well Elizabeth will be busy and will travel as she likes too. She will probably have her own yacht to go as she wishes. As we look elsewhere, we can also tell that Joey and Sharon are a family group. She is from Holland area and Joey is from India.
… As time went on we saw Ted Handson shaking Stews hands and they both had smiles. Then Stew blew out candles on second cake. I feel that Ted knows he was to pick someone to run this town and let Stew know as much. Meanwhile, Cleo is put out, for she is a queen to be and nobody is giving her the time of day, Sorry.
… Wandering Ted claps along with others as Stew blows out the candles on his cake. Then as others are taking cake Cleo came to Ted and questioned, ‘I thought you would be taking a queen for your wife? A King should have a queen by his side.’ Ted was a bit alarmed. He stated ‘No, the one that loves him should be by his side.’ He went on saying, ‘Love is not a contest. If you do not love the one you have picked, your kingdom will go down the river. You can bet.’ …Ted took a piece of cake and went to find Stew.
… He found dad instead and talked sports, while in another corner of table Stew is talking to Joey. Stew announced ‘Ted appointed me to care for our town while he is away.’ Joey asked ‘Where is he going? I thought he was going to be our King here?’ ‘No, apparently he got the whole lot. That would be far too much for me. I would just be happy to help the town we are in. It would not even bother me much, if I didn’t run a town.’ Joey uttered ‘Well whatever, but I must congratulate you… So Sir King Stew, what are your first orders for me?’ Stew laughed and quipped, ‘I want to see the city side of this land all built up by next month.’ Joey smiled and quipped ‘Sure Sir, I will do my best.’ and they both broke into laughter, Ha-ha-ha.’
… Cleo is sure trying to get in on things. She went to Isaiah and must have told him a joke, for he clapped his hands to her. I think she is upset for she wants a kingdom of her own, and she has let that be known to several. Here in another corner, you can see Stew standing to one side deep in thought. He has no idea how to run a village. He will have to ask Mother. And where dose he run this village? Does he go to Overlord’s Winter Mansion? That is where Overlord ran this town. Does he stay with Claire? What does he do? On the other hand, Elizabeth was thinking of traveling within a day or two for maybe a few weeks. She thought she should talk to her lot leader and at least say bye. She found Jeff and talked of the many possibilities in life. They had a good chat and Elizabeth Chan said her byes. ‘I do not know if I will be back here except to visit. You may be busy with your new family. So I say thank-you very much for allowing me to come on this journey. You are a good man and helped us much. It was a hard hoe at times but we managed, did we not?’ ‘Yes’ agreed Jeff, ‘you go and take care of Ted. He is a good caring fellow.’ ‘Yes I will help when I can. We are not truly a pair but that may come later. Right now he is so busy in mind and emotions to think much, of anything… but dad and his territory. So we will see you about, and thanks again.’
… The party was winding down and Handson was about to announce the departure of key people. Ted was getting very tired and Elizabeth was standing waiting for Father to say the word. Well, Father was sitting watching Elijah and thought, there is truly a leader in this one. He turned to speak to Ted saying, ‘Elijah should help Stew. Did you tell Stew to pick helpers as he wishes?’ ‘Oh… No, was I supposed to?’ ‘Well son, if they do not know what they can do, they will not do.’ Father went on with, ‘Here,’ and he pulled out of his briefcase a 10-page instruction book on how to start a town. Ted’s eyes opened wide as he uttered ‘Wow, I wish we had that a few months back. Can I read that?’ Father stated, ‘Well I have many at home, but you did not wish to read? This needs to go to Stew to help him now. We will be away for 2-3 months, and that can break or make a town in the beginning years.’ ‘Yes, well what do I do?’ ‘Give this to Stew for me, and tell him to get whomever he wishes to help. Go now, for we must leave soon.’
… Father turned to Elizabeth and asked ‘Elizabeth would you phone for a bus to take us to Broadtown? You know the procedure.’ ‘Yes Sir, thanks.’ Father added, ‘If you wish you can change your clothes as well, and you will be provided with wear as we go.’ ‘OK Sure’ answered Elizabeth as she disappeared. As she was on her way, Father saw that Ted did not get to Stew, for he was reading the pamphlet on starting a town. Father called Stew and talked, then Elijah came on scene and Father stated, ‘This person here would be of good help to you.’ Stew stated ‘Oh yes, he was the one who organized most of the trips to save us. He would make a very good leader himself.’ Ted looked their way as Father announced ‘Well my son has picked you Stew. He will have to work with you for many years, so a good re-pour is essential.’
… As father was talking to Stew he could feel that Elijah had more direction in him and was a better organizer. Father felt good he talked to Stew and hopes Stew will hire Elijah. Ted turned from reading and asked, ‘Well Stew, it does not matter who or how many you get to help. We send you a lump sum of money for you to dictate where it goes. That is part of your job. You get people who are good with money and they can divvy it out as they see fit. You must give them guidelines though.’ ‘Yes’ agreed Father, ‘it takes many skilled people to run a town. We are your lifeline now, and Ted will be later when I bow out. If you do a good job and the people like what you do, you will stay as runner of your town for many years. It’s your decision.’ (Najjar owns most land?) Father went on with, ‘Bus will be coming soon and we will go. Thanks for the jokes and laughs. If ever a problem, phone this number and we will answer when we can?’ ‘Yes’ answered Stew, ‘and thanks for the opportunity.’ Ted commented ‘And you ask your queen Mother and Claire as well. There are lots of people here to help. Good luck!’ Ted looked down then replied ‘Please, wish me luck also. I am totally lost in my new position.’ Father put his hand on Ted’s shoulder. ‘Yes’ agreed Stew, ‘I can imagine. But in a year you will know much more.’ Father and son both bowed to Stew and wandered out to bus.
with this, several went out to say bye while others went to their homes, to carry on life in this small village. A continuing story? We will see.
